Absolutely not! This is the most wildly entertaining thread I've found all week.0 -

"Cray cray" and "YOLO" are the verbal equivalents of nails on a chalkboard.0 -

I hate the word 'veggie' - does anyone else find it a disgusting word? It repulses me.
Yes, I hate those words.........
Veggie - if you are a vegetarian, say vegetarian. If you eat vegetables, say vegetables.
Brekkie - You eat breakfast, not brekkie. OMG, this one really gets me.
There are others too, but these 2 send me over the edge.
But, do you find it demeaning, disgusting and disrespectful?0 -
this is cray cray.

The word 'veggies' and 'vegetables' both make me feel like Satan is licking my armpits. Both words repulse me.0
-
I think even the term vegetables promotes a stereotype. Just because they are vegetables doesn't mean that they are all the same. Perhaps it would be better to refer to each of them as individuals and not lump them into one broad group.0

Mother, father, may I please borrow your automobile?
etc.0 -
oh good lord! i suppose you still say brassiere instead of bra and pantaloons instead of panties? talk about making something out of nothing.
Nope, the OP (being a Brit) wouldn't say panties, she'd say knickers. Or maybe pants. But pants are what guys wear. :drinker:
I dislike the word veggies, mainly because I hear it so often on Food Network I want to slam my head against a wall. I am guilty of saying 'veg' though.
Also, the person who made the big post about the sociological development of the English language? I like your point, but from a purely anthro-linguistic standpoint, English didn't develop until the start of the last millenium. 2000 years is a bit of a stretch.
I'm feeling pedantic today.
Hee hee good point0 -
I think the OP doesn't appreciate the shortened version of the word VEGETABLES to VEGGIES. It is demeaning, disrespectful and disgusting. I agree with her
How exactly?
And you are assuming she means vegetables and not vegetarians.
I meant I hate the way people shorten the word vegetables to veggies. Its a horrible word. Why can't they use the full original word?
Just Saying
LOL definite WIN
CANNOT is indeed a full word, i do wonder why it does not get the same respect as vegetables0 -
Trekkers don't like being called Trekkies, either. Maybe it has something to do with -ie then. I need to talk to a vegetable about that.
Erm, I am British and I am Trekkie!! And I eat veg and mash and veggies as well!! In fact I use a lot of shortened words! I type more though because I am lazy!! I don't say preggers for instance but I do type it!! It is mostly if I am unsure of a spelling as I am Dyslexic! I did teach my daughter to say vegetables though! You should know the full word bofore you start saying the shortened one!!0 -
Having a bad day?
Haha right? Who cares? I say it and everyone understands what I'm talking about.0 -

I'm fine with veggies. I've been calling them veggies over 40 years and they've never mentioned anything to me about feeling demeaned or disrespected. Seeing as how I've had a nearly monogamous relationship with them for over 20 years, I think they would have said something by now.

Ok, this whole thing is so hilarious. I like the word veggies because vegetables just makes me think of tables made out of veggies.0

On a related note, Beef burgers recently told me they're demeaned and disrespected by being called Hamburgers.

I'm a veggie. Have been for 20 years.
I've also been with veggies for nearly 30 years. I would class it as an intimate relationship (I swallow) and I have not heard a single complaint from myself or the edible plants I have chosen to imbibe.0 -
