Hi! Just stopping in to say hello. Having a very healthy week and praying we have found the answers. It is amazing how I didnt know how sick I was until I felt well? Does that make sense?
Anyway the elliptical is getting a beating. The dogs are happy with longer more spirited walks. And my tummy is happy it is getting healthy high proteiin foods.
Of course the dang scale is not moving. Lovely:grumble:
I will keep logging and eating well for my health. If I lose some weight it will be awesome but for now health is my goal:flowerforyou:0 -
Kate -- just breathe. And be gentle with yourself.0

GOOD MORNING ALL! I just found this thread. I'm a little late.
In fact, I'm REALLY late for my day and can't really write much in this moment. I'm just happy to have found this topic. Lots of interesting stories here. I'll be back in the nick o'time to write/read more.
A presto!0 -

Good day!! Another weekend is quickly approaching. No plans this weekend. I have a lot of personal paperwork to get in order but I'm not that motivated to do it.
A friend contacted me yesterday and she had to put down her last furry kid night before last. She had a pair of cats for years and had to put one down last year and now this. They were about the same age about 14. It's so devasting to have to do this. She said the poor thing hadn't been able to eat although as we all know, we try to cook and feed them little bits of anything we think they might eat. So sad for her. Made me think back to when I had to put my last Siberian Husky down. Not happy thoughts.......
Did some grocery shopping yesterday and have my supply of healthy food replenished. Gosh I love Trader Joe's. They are so incredibly helpful and friendly in that store. I appreciate that. Makes the trip extra happy.
Wishing everyone well. :drinker: :drinker:

Good morning Ya'll,
Up and at 'em....(yeah right...)....well, I have determined my goals for this month....
1. Lose 5# this month (started posting 8\9)
2. Send out resume and secure at least 3 interviews and hopefully a position ( even if part time)
3. Do "Sit and Be Fit" 12 times within 30 days (don't laugh that's a lot towards dicipline for me)
4. Log honestly re: how I am progressing and express here how I am feeling (I keep stuff in and it derails me)
5. Log for Sept. in timely fashion
Have a really good day!!!!! IT's going to be 100 here. Boy am I ready for Fall.....:flowerforyou:0 -

Kate, and anyone else who gets derailed due to stress or bad things happening in your life....Here is the key, you have to reprogram your thinking....I in the past had set myself up for failure when dieting and didn't even know it. I allowed "bad things" to derail my diet, oh well...then it hit me, bad things are going to happen whenever, you have no control over them, the only control you have is with yourself and what you allow...So I decided that there may not be much I could control that was happening around me but the one thing I did have control over was what I ate. Once I decided that it was like my excuse for eating bad was gone...In the past I would start out each day really good, then my evening something in the day would have happened that just got to me so I ate....It wasn't that life was so bad, I was just looking for any reason to give myself permission to eat. I lost the weight when I took that permission away....Stay strong and be happy knowing you are in control!0

HI everyone, my name is Debbie and I am soon to be 62yrs. I recently lost my job due to what I believe was age discrimination, Oh well I didn't really want to work any more. My exercise to date has been swimming 4 to 5 times a week for about 45 min a day. But today we finally have rain in NW Ohio and i cannot go swimming or walking outside. I hope to get motivated to start doing exercises in doors. I have not been very moitvated since I was "laid off".
My goal for August is to start indoor exercising.
I always have a goal to eat better but my husband sometimes has other ideas0 -
Good Morning all, today is a lifting and biking day. I did walk yesterday even though I didn't fell like it, once I put on my workout clothes, well you know, you have to workout or it's just stupid.
Meg-lose and get off the Meds. Diabetes is no fun and the more meds the harder it is to lose weight. Yes, wheat in my favorite soup. Read those labels.
Jane- What is your fruit intake? I eat way more veggies than fruit. Low carb veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms and onions.
Michele- Thanks, that's Dani he is my cuddle kitten. I don't have a picture of myself that I like, I always look horrible, sweaty and huge.
Laura- great news on the capris. I have jeans like that, just sitting in the closet, laughing at me. Their day is coming though.
JB- salad sista it is. I change up my salads all the time, so I don't get bored. If you know of any good ones let me know.
Kate-If you need it come on here and tell us all about it. If you are typing then your hands are busy and you can't be eating. It also helps to talk about it. Cry alitle and get some support from your friends:flowerfo
To all the nurses out there my hat is off to you. I couldn't do the job, it would have me upset all the time. I think you are fantastic.

Morning Ladies! Rainy day in Ohio and thankfully, cooler. They said the other day that we had the hottest July ever. I live in a century home, which means no a/c other than in my DH office. Spent lots of time in there.
Had a good day yesterday. My food was much better, I went to Zumba (which did not have a/c either so I got in a good sweat!) and drank a ton of water. Still didn't get enough sleep. Woke up with leg cramps because of the Zumba. Didn't stretch enough I guess. Anyhow, today is off to a good start as well, though I'm hungrier.
PS2CR - a FitBit is gadget. Combination pedometer, stair counter, and activity and sleep monitor. They have a website and the FitBit syncs to it so you can view statistics and monitor your progress. It links to MFP and gives you credit for your exercise. It's expensive, but many people think it's a great motivator.
Debbie - I'm in the same boat. Lost my job in November when they sold the company and my job was eliminated the same day. Never saw it coming. Looking for work at our age is a real pain in the rear. I would prefer to stay home as I also quilt, sew, garden and have two grandchildren, but my DH is self-employed and I have always carried the health ins. Having to pay for it now is a strain on the budget.
Kate - I don't know you yet, but take strength in knowing there are people here who care about you and will support you along the way. Think how far you've come - 1/2 dark chocolate bar? What would you have eaten in the past? You were able to exercise some control, be proud of that.
Meg - I'm doing some temp work while on the job hunt. My cell rang yesterday and I thought - hey good time to walk around outside - NOT! there is a donut shop next door! That would not be my first choice to cheat but the smell was almost too much.
So glad the weekend is here. There is so much work to get done around the house and garden. But first I'm going to Zumba again, the farmers market and getting my hair cut.
Have a wonderful weekend! Find something to do for yourself.

good morning Ladies....I am finding a new enjoyment in my life...I have been out bicycling now for 5 days in a row averaging 120 minutes a day......I have found that starting to eat more is really giving me a lot more energy......My sleep patterns are improving ...my whole attitude towards my life has changed......Now I am excited about mornings...have not stepped on the scale for 5 days....stepped on it a few minutes ago and ....I am Smiling!!!
I am no longer dehydrated......I feel I am getting stronger and I am Excited to continue my journey......Hope you are all havinbg a wonderful day!...C U tomorrow.....off for another bike ride!0 -
Good morning or well, uh, afternoon! I have lost sense of time! DH and I finally got some sleep last night! Poor guy; he’s trying so hard with the crutches, but shouldn’t use them because he had a total shoulder replacement recently and he’s not supposed to “load” his shoulder! So he alternates between crawling (and yes his knees are scratched up) and using the crutches. But he is hanging in there and looks like he feels much better.
Took Benny Beagle to the specialist vet for what is hopefully the last time. I can’t get out of that place for less than $400. The vet said he looked great and anticipates his lab work will be totally normal this time.
It is a beautiful day here; seems like fall already. The sun has that softer angle to it and it isn’t supposed to be over 80. Nice enough for a walk later! I’ll work on the book all afternoon then walk before dinner and Olympics. It’s just the two of us tonight: one daughter is working and the other is babysitting. So it will be quiet here for once.
I do seem to be losing motivation. It is halfway through the month and I have not been meeting my goals. I can't get the exercise started. I am really hit and miss on it. I know I could lose more weight if I exercised more because I am nearly always below my goal. This time of year is kinda hard for me because I know I have to go back to work and I want to stay home!
Kathy: glad your toe is getting better and better! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for walking. :flowerforyou:
Jane: you probably need to increase your calories, believe it or not. When you eat around 1200 or less, your body thinks it is starving and slows your metabolism even more. Are you weighing and measuring everything? My DH thought he was tracking very carefully and not losing, and come to find out, he was guessing at his portions. Also be sure to drink ½ ounce of water for each pound you weight. Oh, and welcome!
Laura: That baby is a stubborn one, isn’t he/she? Maybe offer him ice cream? My kids will do anything for ice cream! LOL Congrats on the capris! That is such a great feeling! The house thing must be annoying, though. Sorry to hear about all this mess. They certainly are being persnickety!
Michelle: you sound as busy as ever!
Edraper: Size 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Robin: glad to know your new job is going well. '
PS2CR: Sounds like your day was good! I write nursing related material; one text book, several book chapters, but mostly what I do is write test banks for text books. Writing test questions in nursing is a very precise undertaking as all questions need to be matched in format and content to the licensure exam. So I get textbooks, read each chapter, then write test questions for the book, anywhere from 100 to 3000. I am currently working on a test bank for a maternal-child textbook. Sounds like you have had success in the writing field as well. Good for you!
LadyBeryl: what is a mini magnetrainer?
Barbie: you sound busy too! Teaching dance must be so much fun!
Kate: well at least ½ bar of dark chocolate was not the worst thing you could have done. When I stress eat, it is usually a bag of cheetos…the family size bag! I don’t have any words for wisdom for you since I don’t know your situation…can you share a bit? Maybe try exercising when you feel out of control and want to eat. You could also plan some treats in advance…I LOVE the 90 calorie fiber one brownies and they are so good I feel like I’m being naughty! Best wishes and sorry to hear that this month is bad! Breathe in and out slowly and think good thoughts for a minute or two here and there. :flowerforyou:
Nancy: oh my, those poor dogs. Lucky you stopped to check on the situation. Is there a rescue group in your area?
Arewethereyet: Good for you; just keep focusing on being healthy. The weight will take care of itself.
Lin: putting an animal down is so sad, but you know the last time I did it, I felt very peaceful because I knew kitty was in a better place and she went quietly and quickly. She had been sick a long time. Now I worry about my 18 year old cat Smokey who is deaf, sort of senile, and on meds for hyperthyroidism. Geesh, between the dog, the cat, and DH I feel like I’m running a nursing home here!
AZDee: such great advice, thank you!
Tigress: you have the greatest attitude…I’m going to remember what you said. You put on the workout clothes, so work out or it’s just stupid! I love it!
Esther: good for you on your loss! Every pound gone is a victory. Remember that you eat to live, it’s not the other way around!
Gini: AUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh donuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a freak about donuts. They are the biggest temptation ever for me. I could NOT live by a donut shop. I’d spend all my money there then resort to robbing it.
Well i need to get some work done here. Hope everyone has a great day and an early start to the weekend! Take care, Meg0 -
THANKS for your support! :happy:0

hang in there! i'm just getting started, and totally new to this posting thing. i am hoping that with motivation and support i will finally get healthy this time. recovering from a bad fall this past winter, and have begun physical therapy. hoping it helps. the arthritis pain is severe. the lack of mobility has really discouraged me. i've GOT to get well, lose weight, and get healthy! this is my first week to post and do the diaries. hope i STICK WITH IT this time!

Happy Friday!
Exhausting morning, first major outing since surgery last week. Doc says looking good so far! After that on to Walmart but didn't even attempt to walk, got one of those riding carts. Had to bust down and take a prescription painkiller when I got home and back to elevating. I think chair exercises are going by the wayside today! No loss but no gain-I'll take it.
Kate-This is a great place to come to for support-no one on this forum judges anyone else!
Janehadji-I get antsy just sitting around all the time-chair exercises help a little with that. As far as boredom goes, I love to read and hang out with my four legged babies (as long as they don't step on my foot). Also, it was great timing for the Olympics-been watching alot of them.
Robin-Glad your new job is going well!
Muzzyskipper-There are quite a few seated chair exercise clips on youtube. All are about 5-8 min. on average but I like the variety. Good luck on your job search-I was laid off about 3 yrs. ago and have only done seasonal work since then.
PS2CR-Glad your daughter is feeling better! My son is just getting over a respiratory infection also. After being sick for a week, he took advantage of the clinic at his work and got put on antibiotics. You have neat hobbies! Very creative-making jewelry and sewing handbags!
To those of you that posted about your losses (weight that is) congrats!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Kathy

Evening everyone,
Today was an errand kind of day. My positives are another day of logging and eating at my calorie and carb limits. After doing the Turbo Jam yesterday I was kind of sore. I had not done it in a while so hopefully it was my body telling me to get with the program! I sure appreciate sharing with everyone and knowing others are experiencing the same things I do really helps.
Kate- don't beat yourself up for the chocolate. dark chocolate is a better choice than other things. any diet that has deprivation in it is a mental killer. allow yourself dark chocolate once in a while. i love dark chocolate and will still allow myself to eat it in portion controlled situations. hang in there

Evening ladies!
The back is a lot better tonight as I took another day to really feel recovered. Son's gf is trying to hold a yard sale tomorrow and weather says rain. hopefully it will blow out tonight as it is raining right now!
I've been really good about logging my foods and tracking things and the results are in . . . 1.4 pounds down. WOOHOO
Going for a gentle workout tomorrow and the farmers market to look for cucumbers and beans.
11 days and counting smoke free!!

:flowerforyou: Good evening ladies, I have been MIA as far as posting, but have been logging my food and exercise faithfully.
 I have been working 10 to 12 hours a day and by the time I get home eat, exercise and log everything it is 11pm and I get up to go to work at 5am.
Today was weigh in and I am down 3 more pounds. I was so happy to see the scale move.
 Went out to dinner with the hubby so now I have a date with Leslie Sansone and Richard Simmons.
:flowerforyou: Welcome to the Newbies, congratulations for weight lost, prayers for those struggling with health, diet issues and pet worries.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend,

Hello Lovely Ladies--
It's been a long week at work and kind of has me down in the dumps. :explode: But I thank God I have a job. I don't know if going to SS office to sign up for Medicare (I was too early and have to go back in Oct) has anything to do with it. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that I'm actually old enough to do it. :noway: I must say, I'm not planning on retiring until at least Jan 2014 when I turn 66 and even though I'm looking forward to retirement, I'm also scared.
I'm hoping to have this weight off for good by then (goal is 100#) but it is really coming off slowly. When I first started in Jan. it was coming off at a nice pace. Lately I just seem to go up and down the same 1-1 1/2 # I think my eating is going good and I've upped my walking, drinking more water :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: so I guess I just have to be patient.
I read all the posts and have learned a lot from all of you. You are a special group of women.
With my exercise today I still have a ton of calories to eat so I better figure out what's for supper. The cupboards and pretty bare and tomorrow is the farmers market.
Have a wonderful night.0 -
Good evening all! Last night went to a dinner and concert at out college in town ( Bard College)...it was Buckwheat Zydeco..I of course was completely ignorant of what this was...it was cajun/blues and was fabulous..I went with some high school classmates and it was in the Spiegeltent...a tent from Belgium that has a great dance floor mirrors all round (very cool!) room for tables and booths for dinner...a fixture in the summer for Bard. It was fun to do something so completely out of my norm. The music was not something I would have listened to on my own but I really enjoyed it.
I have had a pretty good week exercise and food wise...hoping I stick to my plan for the weekend...the wine is my challenge on Saturday...have a massage tomorrow am..can't wait. I will try to get a workout of some kind in before my appt. Hopefully headed to the lake tomorrow night and maybe kayak on Sunday...we'll see what the weather forecast is.
Have not heard from ds since Monday. Trying not to get too worried but hearing a little too much activity in Afghanistan ...no news is good news and as long as the Marines are not knocking on my door he is ok!!!:ohwell:
Laura - I was in labor for 6 days with my daughter...no lie..admitted to hospital, labored for about a day, everything stopped for 14 hours, when I had appt with ob..I was halfway there and FINALLY had her the next morning...worth every moment...but nope not forgotten..amazing I did it again!
I will have to start taking notes to respond to posts...I read them all and just don't remember who said what..
Hugs and prayers for everyone who needs them and high fives to all for sharing the journey
Jen0 -
Hey Ya'll,
Had a pretty good day....god some things done but no exercise. I have to learn to get that incorporated into my day. Finally figured out how to save meals on the food log....I'm technology challenged....LOL....YOU have a really good weekend...take care..:flowerforyou:0 -
johnsonbridge - welcome! I'm very sorry to read about your mom. Log in here often and keep us updated.
edraper - woohoo on the pants!!!!!
I can't get over how much I can eat and how full I get when I have a big dish of vegetables. Really fills me up, I just never can get over it.
PS2CR - went to Kohl's and got a pair of shots (not that I really needed them). They were 70% off and I had a coupon for an additional 30% off. In the end they cost me a little over $6, down from $30. I found a shirt that I liked, but then I realized it was full price. I didn't like it enough to pay that amount of money, plus it wasn't a petite size, just a XS. So I didn't get it.
Went to the Y early today and just swam laps for an hour. then stopped at one food store, got ice but none of the workers for the pool were here today. Also got some overripe bananas. When I have to go to that funeral, I'll probably take a banana bread with me and maybe a chocolate zucchini bread. Found a recipe that I cut out of the paper for chocolate chip zuchini bread, I'm dying to try it. Tomorrow I'll do some yoga after the farmer's market. Had mahjongg at my house today, there were just 5 of us. I maj'd once.
A big welcome to everyone who is new. Keep logging in and let us get to know you better.
Lin - so sorry about your friend. I know how hard it is to put a furry friend down. It's amazing just how much a part of our lives they become. Maybe some of it is that they are totally dependent on us for everything (almost like a 2 year old). I remember when we had to put Sadie to sleep. I swear he looked at me as if to say "don't be sad". I love Trader Joe's, too. I could spend hours and hours in that store. Only problem is that I'd be spending lots of lots, trying this and that. That is one wonderful store. I remember once I went in, a gal recommended these fried green beans. I didn't know if I'd like them or not so the people there opened a bag and let me try them! I wound up buying two bags. I didn't know how oily they would be or how salty -- they weren't very oily or salty. But if I hadn't tried them, I probably wouldn't have bought them.
We understand the electrician will be here Mon and then Tues there is the inspection of the electrical before they can fill in the trench.
Gini - talking about that donut shop next door to where you work reminded me of when we lived in Stroudsburg, PA. When you came out of the side door of the Y, you were face-to-face with a Dunkin' Donuts!
Jesica is playing World of Warcraft right now, I keep hearing these noises and have to constantly remind myself that it's the computer game
Rose - congrats on the loss!
Made some hard boiled eggs to have in the refrigerator. Was I shocked at how much the price of eggs had gone up!
Here's hoping everyone has a great evening.
Michele0 -
Good evening beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:
I hope everyone has had a good day!!!
My day was busy, and I'm so tired tonight:yawn:   . Tomorrow I'm going shopping with the granddaughters, that should be fun, but also tiring! I need to find some time to clean my house!!!!
I ran into a friend I've not seen in ages today, we use to work out with the same trainer, he was so good to look at:laugh: , I asked if she was still training with him and she told me he retired, he now does faux painting:huh: . She gave me the name and number of the lady she trains with now, said she's really good, however she's just had a baby and is not going to start back until the first of the year. I'll just continue with my walking everyday, lose a few more pounds and be ready to start the new year off right. I think I would be more comfortable some pounds down before I start going to a gym anyhow!!!!
I'll try to comment more tomorrow, for tonight I'm just too tired!!!!
Hope you all have sweet dreams, until tomorrow.....
Hugs,
DeeDee:yawn:  :yawn:0
