  • Silly peoples, i don't even know how you can compare eating a egg to smoking =) too much of anything is bad for you =)

If your egg yolks are smoking, it might be advisable to turn the heat off. Also, get some air freshener and vent out the place. That #@%! reeks.

ETA: Suddenly I'm flashing back to a scene from a TV show or movie or something to that effect, probably in the 80s, where a short-order cook in a diner was making eggs, and his cigarette ash fell in the yolk. That had to be the heart-cloggingest meal ever.

****, I knew it. It's all about eggs and smoking. All of those patients moved their *kitten* off all through their lives but 3 eggs a week and bam!

Side note: I was trying to google for some other examples of specific research studies where the news outlets jump to sweeping conclusions, and was trying to think of other ways to phrase my search terms. Then this came up:

I'm too lazy to look at the link, but this is probably another one of those things people will change their minds about anyway. If you like egg yolks go ahead and eat them anyway.

The reason I don't eat them has nothing to do with health, it's all about taste and texture.

Totally agree with the study. I started eating eggs after I saw on the news they were not bad for your cholesterol and my cholesterol SKYROCKETED next time I had it checked. Went back down after stopping eating them. Eggbeaters for me. May not affect everyone this way but there is definite truth in it for some people.

Vegans don't eat eggs. Vegetarians do. Generally speaking of course.

This. there is also a correlation between the sales of ice cream and violent crime. I knew Ben and Jerry were up to something, dammit.

What? haha! Eggs you buy aren't fertilized so it's nothing like "liquid chicken".

"I've heard that eating too many eggs can raise your cholesterol - how many can I eat?
For most people there is currently no limit on the number of eggs that you can eat in a week. However, because the recommendation has changed over the years, it's often a common source of confusion.

In the past a restriction on eggs was recommended because we thought that foods high in cholesterol (including liver, kidneys and shellfish, as well as eggs) could have an impact on cholesterol levels in the body.

However, as research in this area has developed, so has our understanding of how foods that contain cholesterol affect people’s heart health.

For most people, the amount of saturated fat they eat has much more of an impact on their cholesterol than eating foods that contain cholesterol, like eggs and shellfish. So unless you have been advised otherwise by your doctor or dietician, if you like eggs, they can be included as part of a balanced and varied diet.

The UK's governing body on health disagrees.

Either that or the lack of pirates is causing global warming.

    Maybe we should become pirates?

Good grief -- another "so-called" scientific study . . . who financed it? What was the motive?

    Total BS, and then some!

I eat two farm-fresh (range free, organic) eggs every single day, and have NEVER had even a remotely high cholesterol number.

I thought the bad reputation of egg yolks from the 80s was discredited about a decade ago???

Yes and no. When the "news" that eggs were bad first hit the stands, it wasn't based on any study involving eggs. It was based on the notion at the time that dietary cholesterol caused high blood cholesterol and since eggs have a fairly high cholesterol count for their size, it was extrapolated that they must be bad. When further research showed that dietary cholesterol does not have a significant affect on blood cholesterol for most people, eggs were in the clear again.

But little to none of the research that labelled eggs bad or good was actually involved eggs. There really hasn't been a lot of research on eggs.

For those wanting the full explanation of pirates & global warming http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster#Pirates_and_global_warming

I like that they cite Somalia as proof that pirates fight global warming.

I think it just depends on how bad your cholesterol is. My cholesterol is 71, so I don't think I have too much too worry about in that aspect. I will continue to eat the whole egg.
