Has anyone tried to make desserts in their slow cooker? I'm intrigued by the idea but can't wrap my brain around anything non-meat centric coming out of it, ha!

baked apples in a crockpot. or apple sauce in the crockpot!

Made this for dinner tonight..very tasty..I added more low sodium soy sauce than it asked for..so I would change this 'to taste'. My husband loved it.

Asian Spiced Chicken and Beans (7 Points)

1/2 Cup dry packaged Navy Beans or 1(15 ounces) can Navy Beans, rinsed and drained.

1/2 Cup dry packaged Red Beans or 1(15 ounce) can Red beans, rinsed and drained.

1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 inch cubes.

    3 large carrots, diagonally sliced

2 to 3 teaspoons minced garlic, to taste

2 to 3 teaspoons minced ginger root or 1 to 2 teaspoons ground ginger, to taste

    1 (14 1/2 ounces) can reduced-sodium fat-free chicken broth

    2 Tablespoons cornstarch

    1/2 Teaspoon crushed red pepper

2 to 3 Tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce

    4 Cups cooked rice

Sliced green onions and tops, for garnish
    Chopped peanuts for garnish

If using dry beans, in a large saucepan, place dry beans and cover with 2 inches water; heat to boiling; let boil, uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and set aside for at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours. Drain soaking water and rinse beans. Place soaked OR canned beans, chicken, carrots, garlic, ginger and 1 1/4 cups of the chicken broth in slow cooker; stir well. Cover and cook on low until beans are tender about 5 1/2 to 6 hours.

Turn slow cooker to high. Combine cornstarch with remaining 1/2 cup broth and stir into mixture in cooker; stir in crushed red pepper. Cover and cook until thickened, about 30 minutes. Stir in soy sauce. Serve over rice; sprinkle with green onions and peanuts.

Makes 6 servings, about 1 1/2 cups each.

Undoubtedly the best chicken tacos you'll ever have are made in a crockpot.

You'll need 1 or 2 lbs of chicken (I used thighs; they're cheaper), 1 jar of salsa and a packet of taco seasoning. Dump all three ing. into crockpot. Stir, if you're into that sort of thing. And then set your timer to low. You can do this with frozen or thawed chicken.

    Here's the original recipe: http://mychocolatetherapy.blogspot.com/2012/01/crockpot-chicken-tacos.html

I dare you not to stand over the crockpot, eating it straight outta-the-pot with a fork!!

    This ^^^^
Thanks I am making this tomorrow :flowerforyou:

My favorite thing to make in the crockpot is my rootbeer bbq pulled pork! It seems to be a big hit with my family and friends!

    Root Beer BBQ Pulled Pork

1 pork tenderloin- boneless ( use whatever size you need depending on how many you are feeding)
1 12oz bottle of root beer- i use diet a&w or mugg but you can use regular and whatever kind you want.
1 bottle of your favorite bbq sauce
    seasonings

I put the tenderloin in the crock on low and season it with pepper, seasoning salt, garlic and onion powder and some paprika and kind of rub it in, then i pour in 3/4 botle of the root beer in and let it cook until its tender and falling apart.

Once its cooked i drain all of the juices and shred. Then add the rest of the root beer and however much bbq sauce you like and stir. It really is delicious! I prefer using Kansas City BBq sauce because the combo of that with the root beer and pork it amazing!! Enjoy!

I've been working on meals that I can make in great quantity and a low price so that no only can I pull meals quickly from the freezer, but I know what to buy when it's on sale. I try to combine a meat with a bean/lentil to keep protein high, fat content low, and costs down. Generally, I aim to spend about $1 on canned goods and $2/lb on meat/beans. I live in Canada so I don't know if the pricing will be the same. I also buy things in bulk (like rice, onions and carrots).

Here are some cheap recipes that I use regularly (keep in mind that you can alter the spices to match your flavour preference):

    Pork Stew - 14 portions - 1 cup each

    Chopped Onions 2 bulbs
    Chopped celery 2c
    Chopped carrots 2c
Diced Tomatoes 796ml can 4 cans
Canned Peaches and Cream Corn 1 can
    Canned Black Beans 1 can
    Garlic Powder 2 T (optional)
    Cumin 1 T
    Coriander 1T
    Oregano 1T
    Paprika 2 T
    Pork Loin roast/stewing meat 1kg

    Crockpot Chili: 10 adult portions

    Ground Beef/turkey/pork 1 lb
    Red Kidney Beans 1 can
    Diced Tomatoes 796ml/can 2 cans
    Onions chopped 3c
    Carrots choped 2c
    Celery chopped 2c
    Cumin 1T
    Cayenne 2t (optional)
    Paprika 1T
    Oregano 1T
    Garlic Powder 1T (optional)

    1. Brown beef in a pan and drain excess oil.
    2. Add all ingredients into a crockpot on high.
    3. Cook until well combined - 2 to 3 minimum, 6-8 hours is better.
    4. Taste and adjust spices. Serve with rice.
    5. Freeze meal portions.

I wish I had the calorie count on this one but it is low.

    Savory Pork Apple Stew

pork for stew(easy on the budget it was 2.50 AND I had a coupon)
    baby carrots
    chicken broth(low fat low sodium)
    2 apples skinned and diced
    1/2 onion diced

This was very yummy and can be served over rice or a potato. The meat just falls apart. The kids really liked this one.
