"Cardio does not burn muscle mass, crash diets and bad nutrition burn muscle mass!"

"The reason that cardio has gotten a bad reputation for burning muscle is that most often, people couple drastic diets with cardio in their effort to “cut” after “bulking” – its why I hate the whole bulking and cutting mentality. ) Its the drastic caloric reduction that is responsible for the muscle loss, not the cardio! "As long as you get enough protein … maybe not even as much as you think you need, do some sort of strength training and don’t run 43 miles everyday for two months you really don’t need to worry about cardio burning muscle."
Incidentally, the above study showed a 7 percent decline in leg muscle mass for runners on ultra-long race that was 2,777 miles over two months. As most of us won't be doing that, I don't think we have to worry about loss of muscle mass from a 3-5 mile clip once or twice a week. http://www2.rsna.org/timssnet/media/pressreleases/pr_target.cfm?ID=506

:drinker: Alright. Here we go. I got a front row seat too...
In all honesty, I don't really read many things. I just go with what's been working. I run, then lift and eat at a deficit. Life has been good so far. Good luck on your quest!0 -
Mean no offense, just love this Gif and it beats typing bump to come back and read later... lol Best of Luck0 -

Here's the issue. If you're in caloric deficit, you'll shed tissue thats NOT IN USE more than tissue that is being used. If you're only doing cardio, you'll shed type II fibre. Hence skinny fat. If you're doing exercises that utilize all types of muscle fibre, you will be more inclined to lose body fat. This is not news, or should surprise anyone.0 -

BTW - I'm not disagreeing with you (I'm a runner & haven't wasted away) it's just that this topic has been done ad nauseum and is very divisive0 -
Have to love the people who jump in without citing any sources. Especially the ones who write "f---k" and "lol" in an attempt to add legitimacy to their point of view0

I see some people learned how to insert images and gifs into a thread.
You guys must be super-creative and technical geniuses0 -

Wait why are we insulting people when no one has said anything to insult or disagree with you? Are you just trying to start an arguement? I think on this website they call that trolling.....0 -

What's humorous is that your source doesn't have any sources cited either. Just dictionary terminology links.0 -

"Due to the exceptional setting of this study, we could acquire huge amounts of unique data regarding how endurance running affects the body's muscle and body fat," said Uwe Schütz, M.D., a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital of Ulm in Germany. "Much of what we have learned so far can also be applied to the average runner."0 -
