COFFEE DRINKERS ADVICE NEEDED!

I just use the creamer only mine is 35 per tbsp too, sometimes I'll do 3 tbsp, I skip sugar and I never ever have nasty sugar substitutes they are disgusting in coffee and not good for you. If I use sugar I use real.
There are agave (liquid natural sugar) coffee flavors you can add but I have not had any. Im kinda scared of even putting agave in my coffee for some reason.0 -
I also use flavored splenda for coffee but I found that one packet wasn't enough so I use two. I gave myself a week to get used to it and now it's not bad at all. Maybe you need to try a different flavor. To my knowledge they have vanilla and hazelnut. Hope that helps.0

I love coffee, but I cannot drink it black, so I add creamer and sugar (sometimes splenda, but don't like the taste of it). But I have a much higher calorie goal so I don't have as much of a problem with adding ~200 calories per day on my 1-2 cups of coffee...
Honestly, if you are taking so little sweetener/creamer in your coffee (about 55 calories worth, it sounds like?), why not just up your calories to 1255?
You could always exercise a teeny bit more or eat a bite less at a meal, as someone suggested, if you are that concerned.0 -
Now I want coffee, too...0

First - I LOVE MY COFFEE and will fight someone like an animal in the street if they take it from me
Bravo!!! I love my coffee too! I've not worked my calorie count down too far though, mine still get me for 90 - 140 calories!. I have moved from real sugar to Splenda or Equal and as of today I went from 4 tbls to 3 (baby steps) :blushing:0 -
Over time I managed to switch from creamer to milk, to skim milk, to black. I still put 1 splenda in it because I don't like the bitterness and am not ready for that yet, but I do get it down to zero calories (or whatever is in the coffee, 5 or whatever).
^ exactly! I now drink mine black.. It took about a year
WOW! I don't know if I could do this!! It's worth a shot though. I'd love to be able to drink my coffee black, it just seems like such a far stretch for my personally. It's great to see that it is possible though!!
You can totally do it - just takes awhile - baby steps.
I switched several years ago, mostly because the latte i was buying every morning was like $2 more then straight espresso....
Now, if I even try to have cream/milk in my coffee, I don't like it ---
plus... you get serious respect from others when they hear you drink it straight.0 -
I use about 1/4 cup Silk Vanilla Almond Milk with about one tbsp Raw Sugar. All of that goes into my coffee mug first, then I fill with coffee. My mug holds 2 cups of liquid. All of that is around 45 calories per two cups of coffee. I used to drink about 6 cups a day and I've gone down to one mug/two cups a day. I have had no adverse effects to minimizing my coffee intake. I actually feel much better because of it and I have plenty of calories for the rest of my day.0

I love coffee and still sneak it in on occasion. I use Nectresse from Monk fruit. I occasionally use Succanat as my sweetener. I wouldn't worry too much. A cup a day isn't super bad. I just measure my heavy whipping cream out and put a tablespoon into my coffee. I rotate with Nectresse sweetened and Succanat.
You could always use instant coffee on days you normally eat cereal and just heat up some milk with it. Eat your cereal like a snack and you'll easily squeeze it into your diet.0 -
First off, I just have to put it out there... If you're a negative nancy (or negative nick) your comments are NOT welcome here. With that said....
I am an avid coffee drinker. I really can't go a day without drinking a cup in the morning. I drink my coffee with creamer and sweetener. My favorite creamer/sweetener has 35 calories per 1 TBSP serving. I found some nonfat creamer that has 20 calories per a 2 TBSP serving. I also found some splenda flavored packages that are calorie free, though they don't taste very well.
What kind of creamer, or creamer substitute do you put in your coffee? What kind of sweetener do you put in your coffee? How many calories a day do you waste on coffee?
I take in 1200 calories a day, and my coffee can take up to 60 to 140 calories out of my day. Depending on what I put in it for the day. My only other beverage is typically water, so I don't typically drink any other calories besides my coffee. I'd just like to hear what other coffee drinkers do to lower their calorie intake, but also get their morning java!!
Thank you in advance for all your input!!

Unsweetened almond milk will get you off the habit! I am a person that loves bitter, dark roast coffees - so I always have it black!! However, when I was trying to ween off starbucks style milk, sugar with a splash of coffee, I opted for almond milk and Stevia packets! As healthy eating is an acquired habit, so is reducing the cals in your coffee!0 -
I too can't live without my morning cup of Joe I weaned myself gradually from 2 Tbs. of creamer to where I am now which is no more creamer, I only put in 4 ounces of unsweetened Almond Milk (40 cal a cup). This makes my morning coffee only 20 calories. This took me months and belive me I always said I would NEVER be able to drink coffee without sugar. I proved myself wrong, I've cut way back on sugar and now when I have a treat loaded with sugar I usually can only stand a few bites. The key is to just wean yourself off gradually.0

Since I focus more on carb count then calories, I add a tbs of whipping cream ( zero carbs) and a tiny dribble of the sugar free coffee syrups. Seems to me, a good coffee in the a.m. is more satisfying then 2 or 3 "okay" coffees. A trick I have learned is to drink a full glass of water before drinking coffee and then I am not thirsty and not drinking more for the thirst factor.0

I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS THIS BUT REAL SUGAR IS BETTER FOR YOU THAN ANYTHING CONCOCTED IN A LAB. Your body recognizes it and can synthesize it easier. I don't do pink packets, yellow packets, blue packets, and I don't even do white packets any more. I'm devoted to my brown packets. Raw sugar all the way.0

Coffee, 2 tsp powdered coffee mate, and 2 splenda packets. If I am in the mood for sugar, I use sugar instead. I also only have the one coffee in the morning, and drink water the rest of the day.
I absolutely refuse to change my coffee. If I have to do 20 extra jumping jacks, then so be it! I will have my coffee the way I like it!0 -
I love my coffee too!! ...and sweet and light.....but I've weaned myself off everyday. Even though you take a creamer and sugar sub, I don't think there is anything better than the real thing. It's just worth it for a good cup of coffee; so I use light cream and sugar.
For all the healthy minded people out there....of which I am one....I wouldn't use anything synthetic, that is, processed junk in my coffee or anything else for that matter. And be careful of ANYTHING that says "Natural" or Naturally flavored! That means something different than you might think.
I also like the idea of using almond milk or the little half and half cups....thanks for those good ideas.0 -
I'm an avid coffee drinker too. During the week I stick to skim/soy milk and 1 splenda (I go to Au Bon Pain, get the hazlenut coffee and use skim/soy milk so I still have hazlenut but no calories because of it). On the weekend I brew myself so I have regular coffee and I "treat" myself with no-fat hazlenut creamer, one teaspoon (I like my coffee kind of dark) and 1 splenda. I also read adding cinnamon to your coffee gives it flavor with no calories but I haven't tried that yet.0

HILLS BROS. SUGAR FREE VANILLA - 25 CALS TBSP OR
HILLS BROS. ENGLISH TOFFEE- 40 CALS TBSP OR
INTERNATIONAL COFFEES- CREAMER SINGLES IN CARAMEL MACCHIATTO- 30 CALS
ALL OF THESE ARE GREAT!!!0 -
I have to have my 2 cups every morning or the world just isn't right. Period. I've tried various ways to lower the calorie count, like artificial sweeteners, & they were just okay. I eventually decided that I like real sugar in my coffee enough to keep it that way, though I do use the flavored sugar-free CoffeeMate. Vanilla caramel is my fave but French vanilla will do in a pinch.
I don't have a super low calorie target though so calories from coffee aren't a big deal to me, but when I think about it, before I lost weight I did have SBUX frapps at least once a month & those are like a billion calories, so I've done away with those almost entirely, with vacations being the only exception.
Here's an idea you coffee lovers might enjoy:
Iced Coffee Protein Shake
1 cup cold coffee
1 c skim milk (or whatever type of milk you drink)
1 scoop whey protein
1 oz sugar-free DaVinci or Torani syrup
I mix it up in a shaker bottle & chill, but you could reduce the coffee & milk by half & add ice then blend for a frapp-like concoction.0 -
I only use sweet n low sugar substitute, and two tablespoons skim milk, cuz I hate the taste of any liquid dairy product. Some days I drink it black, depending on the mood. Espresso is black as well, love it so much that I have an espresso maker at my house and at the bf's, even tho he doesn't drink coffee.
I cannot live without caffeine. I try to drink extra water if I have a lot, and since I don't usually go out of the tea-water-coffee cycle, I think it's ok.0 -
I'm SO glad you asked this question! I drink my coffee the same as you and I hate the added calories =/ Thanks to everyone else for the good tips. maybe i'll be able to transition to black coffee...someday =/0
-
Get quality coffee with perfect roast...then drink it black.
That is what I do0 -
I actually weaned down from half and half to the fat free half and half to skim to black....little by little.0
-
I'm sure this has already been said but I didn't want to read through 10 pages to find it.
I use sugar free french vanilla creamer. No sweetener. CoffeMate, International Delight or Kroger brand if none of the others are on sale. It's 15 cals per 2 tbsp (ID is 20).0 -
Love my coffee too!! Won't give it up! I use Stevia and Light 5% cream that is 15 calories per Tbsp. I only use 1 Tbsp. Just can't use milk, it's not the same.0
-
Almond milk unsweetened and half a teaspoon of splenda :]0
-
I use skimmed milk and sugar. I enjoy one coffee in the morning and one before bedtime and I really look forward to and enjoy it!!0
-
I have been drinking coffee for years - I've always been thin/in shape since drinking it! I usually put 2 tablespoons of half n half in it, and maybe one packet of Truvia, but lately I haven't been adding it in. I usually drink 1 cup a day, but sometimes I will drink two. I get a nice workout after my morning coffee! I'll never stop drinking.0
-
I drink 16oz of coffee in the morning with 2tbsp of half and half. I find the fattier the milk, I don't need any sweetener or sugar at all. I use Trader Joes brand which is only about 35 calories for those 2tbsp.0
-
I usually waste about 100 -120 on my coffee.
It is the one thing I refuse to give up.
I could use sugar free but don't like chemicals. I LOVE my stupid creamer. lol. I just work out extra hard to make up for it. I love Truvia in tea but for some reason not in my coffee.0 -
I like mochas. I put 2 tablespoons of Swiss Miss in and brew a cup. YUM! It's 72 calories0
-
I till use a tsp of sugar, but use a couple tbsp of unsweetened vanilla almond milk now (5 calories). It has a creamy taste. I use if for cereal, and just to drink too, now. I don't do cows milk anymore. 1 cups of Almond Breeze is only 40 calories.0
