What do you think about Interracial relationships?

I am going to dip my toe into this. I know I will probably get shunned, but so be it.
I do not have an issue with interracial relationships. What ever makes you happy. But I am a hypocrite when it comes down to 1 thing. At this point in time ( My daughter is 2) I would not approve of her dating someone that their race was something other than white. I know I am a bad person. I just would be very disappointed in my daughter. I will not tell her as she is growing up that it is wrong, or that I would be mad at her. If someone makes her happy, that is fine, it would just take time for me to adjust to it. I was raised in a house that I was NEVER to bring a boyfriend who was anything other than white home. My parent's are NOT racist. They have black friends, but they were raised that way as well.
This is just my 2 cents.
Let's say your daughter is being pursued by two men:
One has no education, a dead-end job and while he's a nice enough person, he drinks a little too much.
The other is Harvard-educated, makes a six-figure income and treats your daughter like gold.
Guy #1 is white. Guy #2 is black.
Which do you hope she chooses?
I'm sure its the black guy. It will be like the OJ Simpson case. Everyone knew he was beating Nicole. But it was apparently okay because he had money and was supporting the family. Then when he killed her they all suddenly had issue with the abuse. Releasing the pics of Nicole battered and bruised. Money will help some overlook many things. Race being one of them. Abuse being another
Let me also claify. I believe that they were ok with the abuse because they knew about it and continued to take his money and allow him to be apart of their family
Where in my example did I say the guy beat anyone? It says, "treats her like gold." Do you beat your gold?
I'm using OJ as an example of how wealth helps people overlook many things. You said he was wealthy. OJ was wealthy and because of it Nicoles family over looked many things. If the choice for this woman was a poor white guy or a wealthy black one she would most likely put aside her racism for the money like OJ's family put aside the abuse for the money. Nothing more.
I think you COMPLETELY missed the point of my post.
HA. wouldn't be the first time Ive done that. :huh:0 -
HA. wouldn't be the first time Ive done that.
Yeah, if the black man in my example beat her, it would negate the point I was trying to make, which was that this woman probably prefers a loser creep to a great man just because of skin color.
I think that's probably the case, considering her subsequent posts.0 -
I don't know if that was directed towards me, but I was being sarcastic. I love white guys even though the ones I've dated turned out to be *kitten*.
Probably a Pittsburgh thing.
Could be. ^_^0 -
So your telling me that if your son/daughter came home with a murderer/sex offender you would welcome him with open arms.
And please do not assume I am stating that white people are the higher race, this is not what I am insinuating. If it is something you are not use to, its going to take some time to adjust. That is all.
Read the whole damned thing. Don't focus on what you want to focus on!
You're just digging a deeper hole. Give it up. What you said is very clear and it's disgusting.
I would never get used to my child dating a murdering sex offender. Not in a million years.
Why not? What if that person treated your child like gold? Would you disown them?
There is NOTHING my child could do to make me "disown" them--nothing, nothing, nothing. My children are MINE, and they will be mine forever. Nothing could ever change that. Even if they disown ME, nothing could lessen my love for them. It is rock solid to the core.
You've made your views very obvious. We all see who and what you are. It's crystal clear.0 -
Also, children born to interracial couples tend to be really, really ridiculously good looking.

What a cutie pie!0 -
You love who you love and be happy with it. Screw the rest of the world and be content in the life the two of you make together. Now if in a few years (15) when my son is all grown and a handsome European hottie wants to whisk me away from my real life drab I will allow and love the cultural and racial difference!0

I'm sorry, but the majority of african american women who are husbandless and their children without fathers proves a point. Not to mention the amount of african americans on food stamps, welfare, and in jails. African American women deserve a lot better than they get. There are **** bags in every race, but because I've been through something traumatic and seen first hand how the majority of them are, I'm at fault? There are a few black men that aren't pieces of ****, but they are few and far between, at least from what I have seen. The "trashier" side of my family are all under 20 years old and have baby daddies that don't do **** for their child, and focus on the whole "im finna do me!" lifestyle. So african american women have to be tough and strong to deal with the immature crap that the majority of their males are or associated with. I would NEVER date another black man, and that's my personal opinion and feelings. How can you be wrong about your opinion or feelings? That's like forcing someone to get on a horse after they had their neck broken on a previous experiences and have a fear of horses. So again tell me how I am wrong for feeling a certain way? If you are happy with your interracial marriage or relationship good for you. It's not my cup of tea so don't be hateful towards me.0

I could care less who or what you want to date or never date.
What's offensive is your generalization of people.0 -
As a Libertarian, I would never judge you for your relationship choice.. But from my own experience, relationships are hard enough without the additional burden of the clash of cultures.. Relationships definitely involve more than just the two of you.. There's the extended family on both sides. As we all know, EVERY family has those busybody types that feel they can get in your business "because they love you"...
And then there's the possibility of the children that may result.. To which culture do they belong?..
Please dont assume that I'm xenophobic in any way..
I'm just trying to point out that you're really adding a layer of difficulty to your lives by building a relationship with someone from ANOTHER COUNTRY... :-)
The kids could be so messed up they become President...0 -

Allow me to dispel your concern...I don't feel confused or torn by a cultural/racial line. Thank you for your concern though.0 -
I don't think anything about interracial relationships. I didn't know they were something people had opinions on. Maybe they're more of a big deal in North America than in the UK.
I've wondered the same. Although I've come across racism here, I've not seen much directed against couples.0 -
My partner is Nigerian (Black) and I'm UK white - we've been together for 14 years and have 2 children. I don't see people for the colour of their skin or the religious beliefs. I judge people on who they are.
x
Edit: I have a friend from Mauritius (Indian) and her husband is white UK and another friend who is mixed (Mam white, dad African Black) and she is with a white guy. And another friend who is Chinese who is also with a white guy. Maybe that's my circle of friends - I don't give a damn - they don't give a damn. We see people for who they actually are, not skin colour etc.
some people who do think it's a 'terrible thing' should grow up and stop being so naive!

i think it's cool ;D0

My boyfriend is black and ofcourse, I am white.. And to make us even more "different" I am from Canada and he is from the US. I feel like so many people are judgemental of us. And assume, I am a trashy white girl and he is a ghetto black guy. This is not the case. He is educated and may dress a certain way, but is far from what people perceive him to be. I'm so tired of people judging our relationship based on our difference in cultures. I see him as a person, I don't think of the color of his skin everyday. What do you all feel about interracial relationships? Have you ever been in one or are you in one? And by interracial, I obviously don't just mean black and white relationships.
People are idiots.0 -
who cares what people think, enjoy your life0

I think my pic explains it all.0

Race doesnt matter to me0
-
If two people are happy and in love, it doesn't matter what race, color, creed, political affiliation or sexual orientation they possess.
Amen brother!0 -
I couldn't have said it better!!!0
-
It's a shame that in this day and age, it's even a question. Regardless of skin color, we are all human. We all bleed red. I have not been in an interracial relationship myself, I feel it's just as natural as any other relationship. You shouldn't even has to ask or think about it!0
-
Only time it annoys me when i see a white girl with a black guy is if the black guy thinks he's a thug but if he acts like a normal person than i dont have a problem with it0
-
Two people in love = cute.
Who cares what the biggots say? Enjoy it and screw them!0 -
As long as anyone is happy I don't care who they are with . I think y'all are cute0
-
The only thing that makes us all the same is the fact that we are all different, and we are all pink on the inside. I love culture! I love different skin tones. I have mostly always dated brown/black men. Plus mixed race babies are SOOOOO darn cute!0
-
I see nothing wrong with it. I'm too in a interracial relationship. I'm white and my bf is black. It's been the best relationship i've ever had. 7 years and more in love than before. We act like teenagers. lol
Don't worry about what other people think. It's your life and you have to life with your choices. If any man of any race is a good man.. Keep him and don't let him go!0 -
I dated black, mexican, and married white. Like so many others have stated.... "It doesn't matter what your race if you are truely in love." Opinions are like a**h*les.... Everyone has one.
If it works for you love your man, and live happily ever after.0 -
Though I've never been in a relationship with someone of a different racial background to myself, I have absolutely no issues with others dating people who are different races to them. I honestly wonder why anyone WOULD have a problem with it. What does it matter? If you don't want to date someone of a different race to you, then don't. But why the hell should you care if someone else does?
Fundamentally, we're all exactly the same on the inside. That's what it all boils down to. It doesn't matter what we look like, we're all the same god damn species - homo sapiens. Seriously, if you don't believe me, look on Wikipedia. You don't see Tabby cats refusing to mate with black-and-white cats do you?
We are all human. And if you don't understand that, well, you must be really stupid.0
