    Good morning beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

    Barbie:smile: those balloons are beautiful!!!!!

Michele:smile: thanks for the info on the red okra, when I'm at the farmers market next time I'm going to ask. Remember to wear some sunscreen while you're at the pool. I used to be a sun goddess and ended up with skin cancer on my chest a couple of years ago, I put SPF 50 on every day now, and have to get checked once a year, so far so good. I also have to take a prescription Vitamin D now:ohwell: .

Linda SundanceB  I like your goals, especially living each day to the fullest!!!!

Lila:smile: roofing:noway: , I am so impressed. I don't like heights at all, in fact I don't even like going upstairs and looking over the landing. When we were building this house I remember having to walk across it without the railings on the sides, I had to look down at the floor the entire time, have someone in front and behind me, I just knew if I looked to the side I would have fallen off, oh it just gives me chills even thinking about it. I like your goal to get rid of the too big autumn clothing, I think I will do the same!

Jb:smile: sounds like your trip was wonderful! I like the new pic of your Rugby, my little Noel doesn't really like her picture taken, ever once in awhile I can get her to smile for the camera.

4Dogmom:smile: I like your goals for Sept. especially not worrying about things that are out of our control!

Welcome to all the newbies:flowerforyou: , come in often and chat with us. This is the best group of women!!!!

I had a nice time with the guys yesterday at Starbucks, very low key birthday bash, it's amazing I remember all their birthdays yet not one of them remember mine:ohwell: , they are men, and well I like continuing to be the same young age year after year, I've known these guys some of them for over 14 years:laugh: . My plans for today are low key, I might meet one friend for coffee later on. I plan on getting some things done in the house today, laundry, vacuuming, all the stuff I've let go because I just hadn't felt good enough to do. I swear I have little trolls that come out after I've gone to bed and mess up my house, I get up in the mornings and seem to have more "stuff" than what was there before:huh: .

I hope all you wonderful ladies have a great day!!!! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: , and log your food!

    Hugs,
    DeeDee

    Thank you DeeDee!

Good morning ladies! Tomorrow is weigh-in day. I hope to be down 2 pounds. Am nervous about that since I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds for a month now. Got in a good walk this morning, so by the end of the day I should meet my goal of 11,000 steps. Happy Labor Day!

    Happy Labor Day, lovelies!

    Welcome to all the newbies!

Read every post even tho' not responding to all.

 DeeDee I'm sorry but it took even longer. Was in hospital 8 days, on oxygen for 3 weeks, out of work for 5 weeks, took another 6 weeks after that before I felt I was back to full strength. Start to finish 11 weeks. Then again, it's only 11 weeks, not forever. Truly DeeDee you have time for nothing else than getting completely well. You do NOT want a relapse. :noway: (and I am so with you about unrailed high places. aiieeeee!)
Amanda, L100 seems awful steep for a farewell dinner, unless some was contribution to a parting gift? The fork thing IS yucky. Sounds like you took 2 negatives (unsympatico across table dining partner and too loud background noise) and built a positive (no need to strain to listen or keep temper in response to what she may have said). All that and minimal intake! Well done! :flowerforyou:
Jan smoke free, scale down, training at "before" levels AND a clean and better laid out bedroom?!? You ROCK!
Lentigogirl, Inspired by your "renew driver's license" goal, adding "figure out this darned HRM and use it at least once" to mine.
Meg, SWSY is Strong Women Stay Young, you'll see others use SWSS Strong Women Stay Slim.
Rose, happy HAPPY dance! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Polly Could your reserved co-teacher be shy? Bet Barbie has some coming-from-love:heart: wisdom to help you get started on the right foot...
Michelle I really like the petite bathing suit, the shoulders are narrow enough for me that the straps don't slide down, and its a tummy-trimmer so I didn't even feel disgust when checking the mirror.
Linda/Sundance Putting yourself first IS the first step. Seems to be the hardest too, for us all. Keep trying, you CAN do it.:flowerforyou:
JB your alpine lake looks lovely. must have been hard to leave for home.:glasses:
Lila have to hand it to you, even TRYING the frozen slimy okra. Took one look and almost lost whatever was already in my stomach. Not for this San Francisco Native. blecch. :noway:
4dogmom "look at exercise as playtime" Love it!
Carolyn, have you ever tried grilling green beans instead of steaming? A few minutes on the Foreman grill and they are delicious. tender, yummy. Discovered I love roasted and grilled veggies (thank YOU SMVQ:love: ) and will actually EAT them, unlike the steamed, boiled or (shudder) canned varieties.
Kate congratulations :flowerforyou: on the 2 lbs. You and Meg almost have me convinced to give salmon another try, naaah! :noway: Thanks for the cold aid recipe. I'll make a batch up on the theory that if I have it ready I won't need it.

Could NOT :grumble: make myself get down on the mat, ate no fruit:angry: , not enough veggies:mad: , no exercise:explode: and didn't declutter 'til mid-night insomnia:yawn: . We'll just call it a day of rest and move on.

Better start this morning, Joe is organizing the garage so I agreed to go through one (1) box. As we're working together he said "there isn't this fun?" to which I grumpily replied "No, it's NOT!" :explode: I'm the one that always wants us to do "stuff" together, but not :noway: going through boxes. It's very hard for me, the emotional attachment to things:ohwell: , giving them up. I don't feel lighter, liberated, better. I feel loss, :brokenheart: grief, exhausted:indifferent: , sick at stomach:sick: and heart:brokenheart: . Ended up going through FOUR. (How is it that stuff from 4 boxes equals 6 boxes of stuff to the various charities and two armloads of stuff into the house? ) Many many rewards for the hour's investment in upleasant task. Joe is happy 4 boxes are gone:smooched: , and mostly out of the house. The last box contained the long and sorely missed sewing kits, yoga blocks, strap, blankets and TREASURE, long lost Anatomy of Hatha Yoga book. Wonderful rewards! Next weekend we'll tackle some boxes of (shudder) books...
Now I've been sitting way too long, it's time to either do minimal shopping (way too late for Wal~mart) or suck it up and get out the carpet shampooer.

    Hugs,

    animal-emoticon-0064.gif
Barbara, the AHMOD who WILL be size 10 one day

September I resolve to be good to myself:
eat 7 servings fruits + veggies
invest 20 minutes in SWSY or on the mat and 10 minutes decluttering
moderate to 1 glass wine per night (Sat + Sun allow 2 beers/day)
figure out this darned HRM and uset it at least once
    smile, don't yell...
2012: dance more, bark less and check in!!!

    SWSY or matminutes: 2=0 1=35
    steps: 2=3567 1=7822

    Hello Ladies,

Went out to dinner Friday and Saturday nights this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself -- until I stepped on the scale this morning. Gained back 2 lbs.!!!!   I am soooo glad I went to the gym Saturday, Sunday and today and am hoping I can quickly turn it around. Will be packing my lunch this week for back-to-school, so I am determined to be off to a good start for the school year.

Thanks, all, for encouraging words about my younger colleague. From what I have seen so far she is very competent and that is a BIG plus. I'll keep smiling.

jb -- More than 2 gal. of huckleberries???? Sounds wonderful. Will you freeze them, make preserves, or other tasty treats? Reminds me of when I was a kid living in the midwest. My dad was in a wine-making phase and he would scour the classified ads for places to pick different kinds of fruit. I'm the youngest of 6 and, since he had a plentiful supply of labor, he'd round up a few of us and drive to the boondocks where we'd spend hours picking the fruit of the day. The worst was whortleberries. They were tall bushes that grew in a swampy meadow and we were eaten alive by mosquitoes, but my dad was so enthralled with this berry he'd never heard of that he would not give in until we had picked our fill.

DeeDee -- hope you are feeling better. Be patient with yourself. Do what you can and then allow yourself to rest.

Meg - What kind of book are you writing?

Fabulocity -- Thought of you when I saw two women checking out new exercise wear at the gym this morning. Hope you picked something that makes you feel great when you put it on.

Sorry I don't have more time to respond to everyone today. Must finish all my BOY (beginning of year) checklist items which are due to my administrators tomorrow morning before kids arrive for Day 1. Lots of stuff to read, schedules to print off, and training videos to watch. I'll be glad to get it all out of the way.

Happy Labor Day to all! Have another glass of water.

@ Rose - thanks for the explanation on the name - I was a little confused!! :ohwell: and I am just learning my way around here! I am inspired by your weight loss and challenge win - keep up the good work and good habits. It is hard wark - but the victories are worth it!

@ Kate - thanks for the encouragement on the hip replacement. It is coming along but the progress does seem slow sometimes. But I am definitely more mobile than presurgery and that is a good thing. I will let you know how the doctor's appointment goes this week.
And keep pushing for that 200 barrier. I lost 70 pounds a few years ago and I so remember the sense of acomplishment and success I felt when I could leave that number behind!! It took a lot of hard work, but it was oh so worth it!!

NSV today? Family brunch today and I avoided the pancakes, coffee cake, sausages and thoroughly enjoyed the baked omelette, yogourt and fruit. It will add up much better in my food journal:wink:

Looking forward to establishing some routine again. g

    Good Afternoon,

This is my 3rd attempt of posting! I would get almost done aand than they disappear. Wish I could say they are getting more witty but not so. All well

@Dee glad you are feeling a bit to enjoy your coffee and yes I do think that's a man thing on remmbering birthdays. I use to keep track of my MIL Birthday so my DH would forget. Its been like that since I have known him over 20 years now but I know that isn't all men but it is mine.

@Barbie- I like those Balloons too. We have a balloon festival evry year ours just finish.
@Linda I really like your Sept goal putting yourself 1st. You deserve that
    @Lila so impressive roofing
@michelle I never heard of red orka before interesting?
@Barbara I have a hard time parting with things too.
@Rose So Happy for you !!! Yay!!

Today has been good so far working my way through all of the BBQ's we have 3 this weekend one more to go. Last night I did stay under but strayed from my plan and ate more of different foods than I have been allowing. I can tell I am getting away from it cause my stomach felt yuk all night. Work out a plan today and its working out better. :grumble: Manage to take the dog for a walk this morning and planning on doing it when I get back tonight. So I can get a little movement into my life.

So I hope everyone :grumble: has a good weekend. Take care .:flowerforyou:

Feels like Sunday, but has been Monday all day! LOL! New month, so I am trying to re-focus not only on the total calories in but are they nutritious or more empty calories...I have a tendency to empty calories unfortunately...one day one meal, one snack at a time...also need to get back to am exercise before work (not a teacher so not quite as early as you ladies)

So no kayak adventures this weekend...dh's bursitis was acting up...of course I could have gone on my own but instead I sat and read this month's bookclub book...meeting is next Monday and I had not cracked the spine yet! So book is done (house of sand and fog)...it was a tough read...did not really like any of the characters (wanted to smack them upside the head!) But it should be an interesting discussion.

Had a message from ds...he said he might try to call us..so now I jump everytime the phone rings:love: ...had a nice catchup chat with dd..she has been asked to be preceptor for a new nurse in her unit(step-down neuro-icu) ...she is thrilled and a little nervous. It will be a good experience for her to see if teaching is something else to pursue...I am enjoying watching this stage of her life.

Have a good night, keep up the good work, hugs and high fives and prayers for all the challenges...love this thread, thank you Barbie!

    back again!!

I did go swimming on Sunday but the pool was closed today for Labour Day.......and my knee is just too sore to walk.......I got treated to Chinese food tonight (tomorrow's my birthday).....I"d like to say I did wonderfully but I really didn't.......I DID avoid the ice cream at the end tho!

So tomorrow I'll be 53! I spent my 50th birthday in the oncologist's office so this year is definitely better.....Kid goes back for his last year of high school tomorrow....I keep thanking him for "great birthday present" lol

    Hi beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

Jan:smile: hope you got your rooms reclaimed!!!!

Wessecg:smile: 8 pounds in 6 weeks is great!!!! I know it feels slow, but just think where you will be this time next year!!!!

Meg:smile: I love the stories about your DH, they always make me laugh:laugh: ! Hope he's feeling better. Russian chocolates:noway: , oh they sound so good!!!!!

Carolyn:smile: southwesten mac and cheese sounds good. I love fresh green beans any way they are prepared, you should really try them grilled:love: . I'm going to check out Skinnytaste, I really need some new ideas.

Kate:smile: congrats on the 2 pounds gone!!!! I always eat salmon the night before my official weigh in! Thanks for the "cold aid" recipe. Do you need to keep it refrigerated? It sounds like it would be good in some hot tea on a cold night too, just for a hot comforting drink.

Rp:smile: glad it's been a slow day for you!!!! I don't know if I could handle being around sick children, I think it would just break my heart.

Classilady:smile: welcome to the group!!! I usually stay under 1400 calories a day. I eat lots of fresh veggies, salads, and lean protein, fish, chicken, occasionally a lean steak, Greek yogurt, eggs. I'm sure the ladies on here can give you more ideas. Good luck.

Ndbirdmom:smile: congrats on the 11,000 steps!!!! I kept playing with 2 pounds for awhile and when they finally came off they took a friend with them. Just stay on your game plan!!!!

Barbara:smile: UGH...11 weeks:noway: , I thought 5 weeks was awful. I do good in the mornings but by the afternoon I'm wiped out. The nagging cough is driving me crazy!!!!! I will take some more time off and just be, you're right I do NOT want a relapse of this!!! Guess I need to cancel my dentist appt. tomorrow:ohwell: . I love your story about the garage, your time for togetherness:noway: . At least you got things accomplished. Reminds me I have things in the garage I need to clean out too:indifferent: .

Polly:smile: I would bet those 2 pounds are from sodium, drink extra water and give it a few days. Restaurant food usually has way more sodium.

Glendalight:smile: congrats on having the omelet!!!!

Liz:smile: I know about posts disappearing, I've had several go into cyber space, I never have time to repost what was lost:ohwell: .

Jen:smile: I have read books with characters that I wanted to smack too. One book in particular, and I can't remember the title, the main character irritated me so much I just stopped reading and put the book away, in fact I might have even thrown it away, I thought it was that awful, and I love books:love: . That one was a waste of my time!!!! I hope you get your phone call soon!!!!!
I know this has to be so tough on you. Congrats to your daughter too!!!

I'm just sitting here waiting for my dinner to finish cooking, tonight it's grouper with roasted asparagus, and I'm not sure what else, I have some leftover homemade mashed potatoes, maybe I'll finish those tonight. I wish I was really hungry for something, since I've been under the weather nothing really sounds good.

Hope everyone has a blissful night. Until tomorrow.....

    Hugs,
    DeeDee

A lot of catching up to do on here! It's fantastic all the posts on here already!

The bad news-I ate so horribly yesterday that I thought the scale would show that I gained all 17 lbs back.
The good news-when I got on the scale this morning it showed the same weight as yesterday! Whew!:noway: And I'm back on track today!

My foot and toe is still incredibly swollen and I can't find a shoe to fit comfortably but I'm trying not to let that get me sidetracked. Still managed to get a few 10 minute walks in with the boys this weekend. Tomorrow I'm going to try walking in the pool and see what happens-fingers crossed!

Lila - I have LOTS of drawers, mostly desk drawers, to declutter!

Jan- Hope operation repo went well! And congrats on being smoke free! Hoping my DH gets there someday. He already did a month of Chantix but can't get throught the day without at least one or two.

Wessecg - I sympathize with your foot problems! Enjoy your horseback riding!

Meg - Loved your DH story:laugh:

Kate - Congrats on the loss!

Barbara - It's had for me to get rid of things also! Going to tackle my garage in a few weeks and I know there's things there that I won't want to part with, even though I haven't done anything with them in 11 yrs!

Marly - Hope you have a great birthday!

Hope everyone has a good week! Kathy

Good evening ladies, this is your friendly neighbourhood roofer checking in - OMG they should pay those guys better. It is really physical work. I stopped after about 4 and a half hours, I don't know how people do it all day -obviously they are in better shape than I. I thought I should quit before I got too tired and then clumsy, I really don't need to fall off the roof. I kept getting interrupted though, all the neighbourhood guys wanted to come over and give me advice, they were very surprised that I knew what I was doing and I got quite a few compliments on my neatness and even shingles (they would drive me nuts every time I looked at them if they were uneven or slanted). All it really takes is measuring and being careful and thinking twice. Took all day yesterday to get the tarpaper/felt stapled on and then today I finished it off and did one half of the roof shingling. I think the rest is going to have to wait until next weekend (or maybe I can take a day off and do some more). Enough about my roofing......

Meg, your DH card story made me laugh! Poor man! The river cruise your friends just got back from sounds terrific. I want to go on a Viking River Cruise but I don’t know if I want that one or the Rhine.

Wessecg - I feel for you, having sore feet is so challenging. Have had both of mine operated on now and no holding me back now. But just walking used to be painful and Christmas shopping was a nightmare.

Jan – wow you are really doing the house operation – first your bedroom, now the rest of the house – tomorrow the world!!!

Jb – thanks for the Rugby picture – I never get tired of looking at heelers. My Rex is a little larger than the usual heeler (and I little heavier – I wonder if they have MFP for dogs). Does Rugby get that weird heeler lopsided grin when he wants something from you?

DeeDee – you are sounding much better, obviously on the mend finally.

4DogMom – I like your goal of looking at exercise time as playtime. Even when I’m enjoying it I tend to think of it as “work”. I’ll try your thought shift. PS – love the jellyfish.

Barbara – I can relate, I have a basement full of my grown children’s “stuff” including Grade 8 to 11 essays and assignments, various cat collectibles from my youngest’s 7 year cat fascination, 3 Rubbermaid totes of tutus and other ballet, modern and jazz costumes from my oldest, sewing bins and get this---6 totes full of stuffed toys and Cabbage Patch dolls. Some day I will have to divest myself of all this (heaven knows I’m not moving it one more time seeing it has been across Canada 2x now). I’m sure if I started I would be immobilized by memories and treasures.

Got to go make some more dinner, I'm actually hungry from all the physical labour.

Have a nice Labour Day evening all and good luck to all with the return to work tomorrow.

    Lila
