I'm almost done with the Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (book 1 of the trilogy). Not sure how I feel about it. But I keep reading. Nothing like 50 tho. LOL But like I said, I can't stop reading it. Need to see what happens even if it is very strange.

This is reality!!! Too GREAT!!! I love it. I read the first book and loved it. The second one I bought as an audible and can't get into it... somehow having a woman narrator 'talking' like Christian Grey; just doesn't do it for me.
  • I found it so repetitive and predictable so I never finished it. Everyone else I know seemed to love it!
  • Maya Banks has four book right now that will curl your toes! :) Enjoy!!

This is a terrible book! It's very poorly written (originally a Twilight fan fiction if I understand correctly). The characters are paper thin and aren't believable at all; Christian Grey is a 26 year old chief executive who just happens to be a billionaire, with his own helicopter and jet. In his spare time he is trying to bring about world peace and end famine. However, you will soon discover that he is nothing more than a psychotic rapist who carries a never ending supply of "foil packets" and only converses with people by "murmuring" to them. In fact I'm not sure how he manages to hold conferences as a CEO since the people at the back would never be able to hear him. The problems with the female character are too probably too rude to mention on here but they soon become apparent :)

Only read if you fancy a laugh, but don't if you get annoyed easily!

    This was my opinion exactly.

Plus the fact that the female character is sooo naive, that he has to explain that 'she expands too' when she gawks at the size of his ****. And she has a serious adversion to the word *kitten*. Seriously, she refered to it as 'her bottom'

Basically the author has tried to romanticize a physically and emotionally abusive relationship, and sadly it looks like many people have fallen into her trap.

If you like intrigue with a bit of smut, try the Fever series by Karen Moning.

    I loved the Fever series!
  • Still getting over fifty shades of grey, but lately I've been hooked on Kenyon's Dark Hunter series and Emma Rose's His Every Desire series. Something about those billionaires... :)

The Fever series is SO much better than 50 Shades.

I just finished Bared to You. I enjoyed 50 shades and really liked this one. I am excited about #2 coming out next month. They are very similar!

That's because E.L. James couldn't be bothered to remember that the book is not set in Britain.

Bridget Jones calls it her "bottom," too, but she is in London, so it's appropriate.

To each his own, but seriously... Worst books ever written. There are people out there with real talent for writing and their work gets rejected on a regular basis, but this mind-numbing crap gets published? I can't say I'm any better than anyone else who has read them because I read them too, but really, they're awful. Why would any editor allow an author to use the same exact words and phrases on every page is beyond me.

    Lips bitten: 25

I've just started the 2nd book in the series. I wouldn't say that it is the best book I've read, but it could be much worse. I like that this book has got some healthy conversation going and that it is OK to explore your fantasies....

I honestly do not understand where people get things like rape or degradation from. There are many things you could criticize about the books and the story but this is something that's beyond me. Plus, let's face it, the BDSM in this book is really mild. Most of the things they TALK about in the beginning, they don't even end up doing.

Oh, and I'm reading Bared to You right now, too. I have to admit, it's much nicer.

The problem with the 50 Shades books has nothing to do with actual BDSM. The problem is that Christian Grey is a controlling, stalking, abusive man. Period.

If you were ever actually involved with anyone like him, you would understand the criticism. There is NOTHING romantic about him or the story. It's absolutely disgusting and horrible. Forget the lousy (and I mean LOUSY) writing. The characters are horrible human beings that NO ONE should fantasize about. And if you do, seek therapy.

    *bangs head*

How many of these threads are there going to be?

The book SUCKED. The sex SUCKED. The BDSM was far from real life. The writing was poor. Anna was a wishy washy girl who, if I didn't know she was supposed to be in her twenties acted like she was thirteen. I found it hard to believe that she had never been kissed, never touched herself and didn't know what all those "strange and tingly feelings DOWN THERE were. I found it to be incredibly sophomoric. Truth be told I skimmed through the book looking for the good parts -- which didn't exist -- and didn't even bother with the rest of the series.
FINALLY!!! Someone agrees with me!!! HATED it...poorly written virtually NO character developement....Read the first book (kept waiting for it to get dirty LOL...gave the rest of them away!!! Bo-ring!! LOL

Perhaps because you have never been unlucky enough to date a man like that.

And, um, you know "abusive" doesn't always mean physically. You can accept controlling and stalking, but don't think he was abusive??? Seriously??

When a man controls you right down to the food you eat and when, that is ABUSIVE.

I hated the book. My friends hated the book. However my mother loved it. I sort of feel like if you have no real life experience you think it's better than it actually is...
