What's everyone's thoughts on 5 HOUR ENERGY ?

I haven't had it in years, but I remember it tasting like crap.0
-
I've tried it a couple of times but I could never tell that it didi any good.0

Never had it. My thoughts are: "If I am tired, get more sleep. If I am feeling lack of energy, eat better and make sure I am taking my iron pill." if my body is telling me it is TOO tired to work out, then I listened to it, rest, eat a heathy snack, then workout.
A fruit protein smoothie wakes me up and gives me Morning energy. Trader Joes honey-sesame almonds keep me alert on long drives. 'Natural sugar, protein, crunchy'0 -
:drinker:Never had it! I am a redbull girl :drinker:
Red Bull is the only drink left that seems to actually help.0 -
let me just say, they and most of the little energy shots are the MOST disgusting tasting thing I have EVER put in my mouth on purpose. I cant get past the taste to even think about using them again. .. Even with a juice, or coffee chaser the taste and after taste is nasty!0

I took it once, and no effect at all, even though I am very sensitive to caffeine. Plus caffeine is not good for you, so no reason to start it!0

actually... you are incorrect. there are some big health benefits of caffeine.0 -
It doesn't have any more caffeine in it than a cup of coffee. And it tastes like crap.0
-
The only time I've had one was in the middle of an all-night bender, and it was bad news bears.0

Studies have shown it to have no effect on performance after drinking it, but used post-workout it may help the next workout.
This is specific to one drink, but most of these energy drinks have similar ingredients.
One such supplement is XS® Energy Drink which contains B vitamins,
caffeine, taurine, and an herbal adaptogen blend. XS® Energy Drink is primarily designed and
marketed as an alertness stimulus; however, it is also marketed to athletes as a performance
enhancing supplement. The hypothesis of this investigation was that the consumption of XS®
Energy Drink before exercise would increase aerobic capacity (an increase in Vo2max) and time
to fatigue, and would decrease time for recovery from the exercise bout.
Vo2max (p=0.99), time to muscle fatigue (p=0.48), maximum heart rate (p=0.66), VEmax
(p=0.10), time at which R is greater than 1 (p=0.50), or recovery time to one half Vo2max (p=0.67)
were not significantly different with ingestion of XS® Energy Drink over placebo. The second
trial was significantly longer than the first (p=0.01) likely due to the desire to improve exercise
time or familiarization with the testing procedures. Results showed no physiological effects of
XS® Energy Drink; however, there is a possibility of psychological advantage.

Caffeine is a crutch.
You're a crutch!
Sorry... haven't had my coffee yet.2 -
I didn't notice any difference after trying it, as with any "energy" drink/food/shot.0
-
Its coke in a little bottle, so if you like feeling on drugs and coming down and unable to sleep, enjoy!0

I don't necessarily have an issue with caffeine but there are certain energy drinks that I cannot drink because it causes my heart rate to spike and I get PVC's randomly. it can take anywhere from a couple hours later to the next day for me to experience it. For that reason alone I refuse to try 5 hour energy.
I don't know what it is but monster and sugar free rockstar are the only two I can seem to drink without side effects.0 -
I, for one, love it. It makes me feel awake without hyping me up.1
-
I used it on a daily basis for my afternoon slump.
My afternoon slumps came from carbs like pasta or bread so I cut them out in the afternoon and I feel a lot better.
I don't need the energy drink anymore.
I also incorporated more clean eating and juicing which helps me sleep better.0 -
I use them, but for me I have to take sleeping pills at night for insomnia and the side effects are well... Making me super lazy the next day. Sometimes the only thing that can push through that daze is a burst of caffeine. Every so often I use them for the extra kick. Caffeine may not always be the best thing but everyone needs different tools to get what they need done. If you need that extra burst then don't feel guilty, everyone is different.0

Some handed them out at an after-lunch meeting. I kept it in my desk until I had a really bad night and was a zombie at work and was out of FRS, so I tried it. Yuck, and not sure how well it worked.
I much rather have an FRS drink, or even the chews. It was originally developed to help chemo patients maintain energy levels and tastes a whole lot better.0 -
Never tried it. I take a B complex vit and it gives me a lot of energy!0
-
It tastes absolutely disgusting but it works well for me! However I'm trying to cut caffeine out of my diet.0
-
I'm wondering the same thing. I use it at least 5 x a week because its the only thing that can get me energized enough to work out. My boyfriend and I are contemplating buying the ingredients in the 5 hr and making our own energy concoction at home. Safe?0

run far, run fast. I too a sip of one, once. I don't know how anyone can take that and I know people who drink SEVERAL in a day. I had to admit that my fatigue was from carrying around so much extra weight and being unfit. I have been exercising for 4 months now and I know for some people the energy came right away but not for me. I was extremely tired and had to force myself to the gym every day. I am now starting to get some energy but I had to win it back. I can't imagine depending on something in a bottle and then trying to win your own energy back on top of that.0
-
Tried it once... Meh.
When I want something post-workout or for an afternoon "jump," I'm more of a Monster Rehab gal. Love the Rojo Red or the Protean (yes, they spell "protein" incorrectly!). The Java Monster Light Vanilla one isn't bad either for those who like iced coffee.0 -
I think the 5 hour energy is ok, it's not a SUPER boost like an energy drink and it isn't horrible for you. I think it just varies on person to person on how it effects them. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone with any sort of anxiety/heart conditions.0
-
I used to drink coffee daily but I don't take any stimulants anymore.0
-
NO!0
-
I just take caffeine pills. A lot cheaper0
-
You can get 90 Jet Alert caffeine pills (200 mg each) for $3.75 from Walmart.0
