The hummus Sabra makes with garlic is awesome. You can find it in most grocery stores.

Yep, been eating carrots and hummus as an afternoon snack lately. Also been dipping my carrots in some cheese spread. NOM!
  • This is one of my fave snacks! I also like carrots and peanut butter... sounds weird but they actually go well together.

Another awesome twist is to get a jar of red peppers (or, for the overachievers, roast your own) and blend it up with the hummus - red pepper and chilli or paprika hummus is to die for.

Tahini is definitely high fat but it's sesame seed paste and good for you! In moderation of course (:

I always end up with leftover tahini, and was super excited to find these salad dressing recipes that use it - basically an alternative to mayonnaise.

    Tahini Lemon Dressing
1 medium garlic clove, finely minced with a pinch of salt
    1/4 cup lemon juice
    3 tablespoons well-stirred tahini
    2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more to taste

    Tahini Miso Dressing
    1/4 cup tahini
    1 tablespoon red miso
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup or more warm water
    freshly cracked black pepper

Chick peas are such a healthy, delicious food! I have a recipe for chick pea pasta sauce, with lots of garlic -yum! A friend roasts them in the oven with seasonings, then crushes them to a degree (not ground), and tops her salads with it - nice protein addition!

This is slightly off topic, but has anyone had the baked lentil crisps? I found them in the organic snacks section of my grocery store, enjoyed them immensely, and haven't found any since. They are a nice chips substitute, but they are so full of protein, and looowwww fat! I don't remember the brand name, but the name of the snack was definitely Baked Lentil Crisps.

Love hummus and will try to make some of my own. Yes, I have tried lentil chips and loved them! I believe I got them at Trader Joe's. My nearest one is off my beaten path so I don't get there much. My local grocery store as a pretty good organic/natural section, but they don't carry them. Good luck!

Ok so why did you all keep it a secret? Carrots & Houmus.... really? I HATE Houmus with a passion, carrots are ok but boring....... together...... O M FREAKING G

Are you kidding me? 4 carrots & 20g of Houmus & I'm only eating 122 cals & my mouth is having a party.

Damnit....next time there is a party like this..... TELL ME.

I believe you have just experienced your first Foodgasm... Im so very proud of you!!!!!! 8-D

I make homemade hummus at home (I cant stand the hummus at the stores, UGH)... I make different flavor combinations including a Pasilla/Roasted Red Pepper with roasted gahhhlic... THAT is a party favorite! I make my own pita chips and chop up some sticks of carrots, celery, cucumber and zucchini...

My daughter likes my homemade hummus smeared on a toasted garlic-onion bagel too!

My absolute favorite hummus accompaniment is pita chips, but not necessarily good for you.

As anyone tried using hummus hot? I was wondering what would happen to the consistency when roasted or melted?

I also love Hummus and in fact most middle eastern foods. I can purchase it locally quite easy but as I am trying to reduce my sodium levels, once I finish off the recent tub of it I purchased, I am going to try to make it myself, with less salt naturally. Thanks for posting a receipie I will plan to try it out soon.
  • Hummus is pureed chickpeas...and the roasted red pepper hummus is FABULOUS on everything!!!
  • Ohhhh I so need to buy some hommus and try this!!!!

Oh yes please do...... Houmus on carrots tastes like cream cheese to me..... BIG weakness for me..... I got a MASSIVE tub of the skinny one lol.

Awesome post. I just discovered this 2 weeks ago on a work trip as I was trying to eat healthy when everyone else was snacking on cake and m&m's I discovered that hummus might be an option. I hate carrots plain. But I knew I couldn't put ranch on them. So I scanned the hummus and wallah it was low in calories and it actually tasted great with the carrots.

I absolutely adore hummus! Trader Joe's Cilantro & Jalapeno hummus is one of the best inventions EVER. I used to eat it with the Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps but once I tried it with carrots I was so excited! It was delicious and what a great way to get some more veggies in. I think I'll have some today. :)

ETA: I also tried hummus spread on a slice of turkey and rolled up. That was also amazing!
  • omg i just checked on mfp and it has next to no calories
  • I like hummus on occasion but it tastes like bean dip with garlic and lemon to me, and a little goes a long way. I prefer baba ghanoush which is pretty much the same recipe only roasted eggplant is substituted for the garbanzo beans/chick peas.

It depends on the brand. For the kind I like, 2 tbsp. has 80 calories. Worth every one to me though!

I LOOOOOOVE carrots and hummus! It's one of my favorite snack combinations! We have a great local hummus place, and I literally have 4 varieties in the fridge right now, and two bags of baby carrots! Super portable for when I'm at school or studying, and they keep me awake! LOL

I love hummus myself. Instead of sandwiches in my son's lunch sometimes I'll give him a little hummus with carrot sticks (and zuchini / cucumber sticks) - He LOVES it. He also loves when I give him a table spoon of cashew or almond butter with carrot sticks, apple slices, celary sticks etc

He likes that it's finger foods like a lunchable, and i like that he's getting balanced nutrition

What kind of hummus have you tried? Have you tried roasted red pepper hummus? How about triple red pepper hummus? Lemon hummus? Garlic hummus? Hmmmm, the pepper hummus is my favorite and I like to dip yellow or orange bell pepper into it...they're sweet and have a great crunch.
