What's the worst that can happen? (on a run)

Running along the canal when the extremely hot weather has caused a big die-off in the carp population. The stench of dead, rotten fish permeated the hot humid air, no getting away from it anywhere. Every time I inhaled I gagged and dry heaved. Ended up vomiting up everything I'd eaten in the past two years, and gagged and dry heaved every step of the way home.0

My biggest fear when running is twisting my ankle...
HAH! Weird eh?
But the first year I started running I tripped on a bridge, banged up my knee and twisted my ankle... then I got up and kept running. I was out of commission for months after. Took forever to heal.
The second time around I tripped on a pebble (IT'S POSSIBLE!) and twisted my ankle. Had to hobble home. The pain was too bad to run.
So yeah... twisting ankles is my biggest fear. Because it stops the run.0 -

stepping in a pot hole...falling...and breaking a leg!!! EEEEKK I worry about that when I run at night.0

Chafing
Losing a toenail
Bug bites
Cars backing out or running through cross walks.
Dogs
Nature calls
Endorphins - ahhhhhhhh they make it all worth it!
I had one of those runs this morning.

ZOMBIE ATTACK!!!
Yes!!!! OMG I love that app.0 -
I have been attacked and licked to death by puppies...seriously. The owner couldn't get the puppies(3) off me, I had to walk to their yard so they could tie them up. I smiled for the next 5 miles.
I had a young pitbull squirm out from under a fence to give me pupkiss and a tail thrashing. He was about 6 months old and all wiggles. I had to pick him up and hand him back over the fence to the owners.0 -
Farting (loudly, ugh) with each step as you run until the gas has escaped completely! I learned that wearing underwear with them helps muffle the sound a little. That is my #1 reason for running alone. lol

Why'd it have to be snakes?0

Sprinklers! I tried running in the park this morning and all the effing sprinklers were spraying the trail. I had to run in the squishy grass and then completely detour altogether. Pissed me off.0

I have weak ankles. It's actually the reason I started running in the cemetery- because you can run in the middle of the road and they're nice new asphalt. I twisted my ankle earlier this summer on a hazardous sidewalk and have been avoiding uneven surfaces ever since. Damn soccer RUINED my ankles!
I should add, that after I twisted my ankle, I thought it was stable enough to run on sooner than the medical professionals advised, and I was about 2 miles away from home in a large public park, and my ankle collapsed under me and I face-planted with no warning on the asphalt in the park. That was pretty embarrassing. A small crowd surrounded me to make sure I was OK, which was nice, but just made me feel even more stupid.0 -
There's these fearless geese that sometimes block my running path. I have to run around them. Once I tried running through the flock and got hissed at.
Oh, and I also saw a vulture eating a dead squirrel on the path once. Sick.0 -

Gross @ the squirrel, and Geese are some scary-*kitten* birds!0 -

I saw a baby garner snake eating a worm, which totally grossed me out. I at least was able to leap over them but it was nasty. I went home and told my boys and my youngest wanted me to drive him up where I saw it. BOYS!!0 -

Oh goodness my worst was falling on my face. I was running along a very pretty mountain road and not paying attention (as usual). The next thing I knew I had stepped off of the road and was falling. I was thinking to myself "Man my hands are going to get beat up!" I put them out to catch myself and they didn't work! I just kept right on going! I may as well have not even tried. I took the brunt of the fall with my right shoulder and the rest of it with my chin. My hands that I was so worried about didn't even get a scratch. Go figure.
We were attending a wedding that day where my fiance was one of the groomsman....great pictures with my scratched, bloody shoulder/chin.0 -
Trots. Oh man. It's only happened to me once or twice, but I basically felt sick the rest of the day. Sucked, man. The worst part is it's next to impossible for me to discern if I'm going to have that issue or not.0

All of the above but the most detreminal for me was my iPod dying at mile 10 during a half-marathon! There is nothing worst than having only your toughts in your head. I carry a back up now!0

I think I inhaled a fly whilst cycling this evening!!!0

sh!tting. anywhere.
chafing- especially between my thighs. or on my bra line.
my ipod dying is a tragedy!
running wearing new running trousers, which don't quite stay up properly. then spending 10k holding onto them so my fat stomach doesn't drop out, and a yard of *kitten* is not exposed to the world.
o, but true story. i was halfway through a run and stopped off at a burger king to use the loo. i then started running home along a busy main street in rush hour traffic. i was getting beeped and waved a a helluva lot- i was waving back, thinking i'd become a bit of a local celeb. i was stood a traffic lights about 3k later when a gust of wind blew the 2 metres of toilet paper that was stuck in the top of my pants into my field of vision. so, that was super.
That's about the funniest runner's story I've seen! Running my first 10K tomorrow. Hope this doesn't happen to me as there are no Burger King's to be found on this route! :noway:0 -
Heard a pack of coyotes, wolves, or wild dogs on a trail run at night...didn't figure I could out run them, so picked up a huge rock to carry for protection(probably wasn't real smart either)...anyway after another 2-3 miles...the rock was wearing me out so decided to drop it and just pick up the pace...new way to PR!!!0

iPod dying is an epic fail, but.....(this is an injury story, but not a severe injury....I was back to running in roughly 3 weeks)
Running my first half marathon, my only goal was sub 3 hours (I run a lot, but I don't run fast yet). I was so close and pretty happy when....20 feet from the finish line I turn my ankle and go down hard. Several runners stopped to help, when I could finally stand, I limped about 10 feet and that's when the dizzy hit and I had to stop again. An EMT came out, intent on taking me to a gurney. I told him no...I had to finish. Finally, assisted by the EMT and a member of event staff, I crossed the line......then promptly passed out and was hauled to the ER in an ambulance.
To add insult to injury, my time was 3:080 -

Still laughing - best one, especially the local celeb part :laugh:0 -
I have never worried about having to go to the bathroom because 5K is about as far as I can get right now. But I do worry about wild animals because the trail is pretty wooded. I have seen a deer twice. I was also followed by a beautiful hawk once.
I will never wear a spaghetti strap shirt again. I was wearing one once and it broke. It was the kind with bra built in, so I had to hold onto the strap with one hand so as to not be totally exposed, lol!0 -
Four things that have happened to me:
1) Lower ankle sprain while jogging across the crosswalk for the START of the first team run. In front of 30 people I barely know. Benched 2 weeks.
2) Heading out in capris I haven't worn in month (at the very beginning of my weight loss journey) to find that they are too big now and slide down my *kitten*, exposing thong, as soon as I warm up. Ran holding my pants up, until I spotted a hair tie on the ground and used it to cynch a knot in the side to keep the pants up.
3) Not bringing water for a quick 4 miler, turns out it's 90 degrees out and then realizing at my turnaround point I've barely had any water all day. Having to walk the 2 miles back.
4) Not being able to find parking at the start of my route. I'm a creature of habit and it really messes me up mentally when I plan to run a certain route and can't park!!
I've only had a potty emergency once, on an unfamiliar route, but got lucky and came across a park bathroom. Being dehydrated on a 90 degree day and a stupid public injury were worse.0 -
Ripped an inside seam of my running capris - no underwear. THAT was fun. Thankfully had my credit card & a Walgreens closeby for pantyhose so I could make it home.0
