    "One bite won't hurt"
    "Eat something"
    "Just try it"

All things my family tends to say - they're food pushers, the friendlier, more legal version of drug dealers.

I agree with nearly all of these. I also cannot stand:

    This is my "journey"
    Cray, as in crazy
ANY texting abbreviation, but mostly LOL
    "That being said"
    Stoked
At the end of the day.
    It is what it is.
    Everything happens for a reason.
    When people call me 'Hun"
    Just sayin'
    # before statements on FB or anywhere else for that matter.

Oh my, I'd better stop! I could fill a whole screen with these!

    irregardless

It's not a word, but a lot of people seem to think it is.

Actually... if enough people use it, it IS a word.

heighth. It even looks wrong in print.

YES! I HATE when people say "hieghth"!! Why do they do that???

I have so many words (mostly slang terms) that annoy me.

Some of them are: Any acronym that someone pronounces as a word, "my bad", use of the word "tickled" to mean "ammused", "kudos", "smile, it's not that bad", "I don't know what to tell you", being called "Hun", use of text acronyms, especially, "DH" for "dear husband", "DD" for "dear daughter",etc... Makes me want to punch people!

    Irregardless

For the longest time, it was a non-word which was erroneously used by the ignorant.

But it's been used enough in popular culture that dictionaries are starting to include it.

It's still a word used by the ignorant.

Sometimes people don't know what to say. What would you say?
    [/quote]

I know. That's why this is the first time I've actually openly acknowledged that I don't like the phrase -- because I know people have good intentions, even though the phrase annoys me, LOL.

Sometimes I don't say anything. Just spend time with a person. Or if we do talk, it doesn't necessarily have to be about the crappy situation. But if someone wants to specifically say something, I'd suggest just acknowledge that the situation sucks and maybe offer a hug (as I'm not a person who has boundary issues in the least, lol). And make an offer "what do you need?" "let me know if you need anything" and then maybe check in every so often (whether it's with those specific words or not). Not like I mean anything huge, but....yeah. Just the concept is nice. They don't have to make everything better, because life isn't magical like that.

I think also saying "be strong" to me has an implication that not only should the person not have any weakness through a crappy situation, but also it seems like it's a way for the person saying it to stay at an emotional distance.

Just my opinion. And like I said, I'm an optimist generally and DO believe people do what they can generally. That's why I haven't vented at them when they say it......just here when asked :)
