I'm sorry but this book is the epitome of bad literature, even more so Twi-****e.
In twilight, none of the characters have any personality, the author does not even elaborate on personalities or relationships enough to get attached to the characters as apposed to something like Harry potter. Bella is probably the worst fictional character I have ever heard of in my life.
50 Shades is just (in my opinion) mummy porn and makes me cringe to be a woman seeing everyone get so pathetic over it.
Read a real book.0 -
Piece of s***. Couldnt even finish the first book. Total waste of time !! Boring sex and poor writting.0

I can't believe Christian Grey dies at the end of book 3... was a shocker.

The repetitve writing and wording just drove me mad so I couldn't really enjoy the books. I have them in PDF format by the way so if anyone wants any of the 3 just message me your email and I can send them to you.
My fave fave books ever are the Stonewylde books by Kit Berry. Simply amazing stories and so well written. She self published them for the first three books before being snapped up by Gollanz publishing (part of Orion Books) who re-published the first 3 books in the series and book 4 last Aug. The 5th and final book is getting published next month.... I already have it on pre-order from Amazon! lol.0 -
So, aren't these books essentially like reading p0rn? How many of you ladies give your guys hell about him watching p0rn while you hypocritically read it?0

I honestly do not understand where people get things like rape or degradation from. There are many things you could criticize about the books and the story but this is something that's beyond me. Plus, let's face it, the BDSM in this book is really mild. Most of the things they TALK about in the beginning, they don't even end up doing.
Oh, and I'm reading Bared to You right now, too. I have to admit, it's much nicer.
The problem with the 50 Shades books has nothing to do with actual BDSM. The problem is that Christian Grey is a controlling, stalking, abusive man. Period.
Controlling, I get. Stalking, maybe. But abusive...nope, sorry, I don't see it that way.
Perhaps because you have never been unlucky enough to date a man like that.
And, um, you know "abusive" doesn't always mean physically. You can accept controlling and stalking, but don't think he was abusive??? Seriously??
When a man controls you right down to the food you eat and when, that is ABUSIVE.
Yeah I have to agree with that. Numerous times when reading I said to my hubby that if he ever treat me like that he'd be a gonner lol.0 -

I have absolutely no problem with p0rn as long as it isn't done in secret and doesn't have a negative effect on a marriage / relationship.0 -
There are two following books with 50 shades of grey! I thought a little bit too much sex, but all together it was o.k. I'm in the middle of the 3.rd book. You should buy them if you liked the first book!0

if you like reading smut you should read the kristen archives website...it has tons fun stories for any possible interest...0

My thoughts on the matter:
This book does not depict the BDSM lifestyle very well. If you are curious, get better information. It is out there and it is not about beating the crap out of people.
Reading ONLY the first book will not give you the deeper undertone and meanings that are trying to be conveyed. Abandonment, pain, fear, shame, honor, trust, love, heartache, pleasure, pain. The entire gamut is there in the trilogy.
It is lightly written - give the author a break. Cherise Sinclair does a better job of detailing the BDSM lifestyle - and there is more graphic "smut" for those that want it of course.
I think that people reading the Fifty Shades books come away with different points. A lot of us are taught that "sex is bad" from a very early age. Even after marriage, if your partner is one sided and not open to suggestion, you keep that "sex is bad" idea. Some grow up alone - FEELING a connection can be a wonderful way to break down that wall. Also, Noone I know has ever given their son or daughter a book on "HOW TO..." or discussed it - KUDOS to those that HAVE discussed this. It is a beautiful thing to be shared - the key word is SHARED. And if it takes a book like this to open your eyes to the fact it is a SHARED experience, then congratulations on finally figuring it out. BDSM is a shared experience as well. Yes, there are sickos out there that take the slavery part WAY too far - these are criminals, not Doms.
And SHAME on those of you who judge others based on your own biases.
EDIT: I just realized, Whip it was playing on pandora as I typed this. BAAA HAA!0 -
Read the whole series 3 different times, lol! It can be an addiction.... I'm pretty much past it now... It was a good run while it lasted, that is until the movie releases.....0

Haven of Obedience by Marina Anderson
Pleasures of the night by Sylvia day

I have no problem with my husband watching p0rn.
I don't consider the 50 Shades books to be porn. They were a weak attempt at erotic fiction at best with ZERO insight into a BDSM relationship. The "BDSM" portion was lame at best and the sex was hardly erotic or anything I'd call thrilling or even shocking for that matter. *yawn*0 -
No, he didnt.0

Vampire acdemey
City of bones
These are more simlair to twilight ! But they are amazing !0 -
Anyone read this? I just finished and thought it was awesome! Im kinda depressed because now i have nothing to read or look forward to read, lol. Anyone know of any books similar to twilight, 50 shades if grey or anything like mitch alboms books?
it's utter badly written, ignorant on the subject, badly researched, a 10yr old could do better, sh*te0 -
I'm ashamed to say I liked them. She is a terrible writer.0
-
The book was entertaining, not the best writing but there are 3 in the series! plus someone else suggested the Sookie Stackhouse books (the books aren't as graphic the HBO show though). The HBO version is called True Blood:)0
-
I too read all three 50 shades......a friend of mine told me to read "Bared to you" by Sylvia Day. I just started it, i think it is going to be good!0
-
Have you read the Sookie Stackhouse series? Those are good.
I haven't read 50 Shades of Grey...however I agree with the comment above...Charlaine Harris' Sookie books are good. At first I found it hard to get into but then after a chapter or two I was completely hooked.... There are over 12 books in the series I think so that should keep you going for awhile.
Another good vampire series is the Chicagoland Vampires....
Have you read Hunger Games? While there is no $ex there is romance...0 -
No it's not very well written or realistic!
I see what the author was trying to do but she did not succeed hopefully the film has a better variety of vocabulary of than 'oh Anna'
'he murmurs' 'she murmurs'0 -
I heard Bared To You by Sylvia Day was supposed to be a lot like 50, but I haven't begun reading it yet. I LOVED 50 Shades of Grey!!!0
-
Laurell K. Hamilton is super smutty. Two thumbs up!
It's funny to me how everyone is slamming her for being a "bad" writer. A woman's first hand at a novel must be excellent, Tolstoy level writing? Not to mention it's a guilty pleasure book, she's not trying to give insight on the economic free fall!
I took it for what it was, a fun, get away read!0 -
Anything by Lora Leigh; J.R Ward or Christine Feehan! I LOVE 50 Shades!!! Thinking about rereading them!0
