I got married over 15 years ago, so I can't answer many of them, because I just don't remember. But I do shoot a lot of wedding and can tell you what I know from them.

1, How long did you plan? We planned for maybe six months.

    2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned? I have no idea.

    3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up? 100 to 150.

    4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)? No. But I guest seem to love the candy bars with little bags to take home their faves.

    5. What season was your wedding in? Summer. HINT: if you are getting married outside, don't get married in the summer. You'll be hot and so will your guests. No one likes to sweat in pictures or in that beautiful gown.

    6. What time of day and day of the week was it? Mine? 2pm on a Saturday. I suggest if you are not going to see the groom before hand that you give plenty of daylight after the wedding for pictures. ( I HIGHLY recommend doing a first look and seeing the groom before hand and getting all pictures out of the way. Cuts down on lots and lots of stress.)

    7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out? I would have enjoyed my reception more and I would have not cheaped out on the photographer. I hate my wedding photos. Make sure you see several examples of your photographers work and NEVER NEVER go with a shoot and burner. You will not be happy.

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it? I don't think we had one.

    9. What were your colors? Black

    10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which? Family and friends cooked all the food.

1, How long did you plan?
    • about a year

    2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned?
    • not sure.. the alcohol bill alone was $12k. it was not a cheap wedding.

    3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up?
    • invited about 250, 150 came (it was 95% out of town wedding; 1000 miles away)

    4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)?
    • i can ask the Hubs since he is sitting across from me but the fact that I don't remember what we did NOR do I remember what most people do, I suggest doing a candy bar or donation to a charity. Those are the ones I remember the most.

    5. What season was your wedding in?
    • late summer, early fall

    6. What time of day and day of the week was it?
    • ceremony was at 5pm, it was on a Sunday of a holiday weekend (so everyone had Monday off)

    7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out?
    • wouldn't have spent as much on my dress
    • wouldn't have obsessed about the details as much

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it?
    • THOSE WHITE DOVES ((juuuuust kidding)
    • with our own money, probably my dress ($7k) i loved it but i DID only wear it once.... veil as well. was a little too long and not my style, looking back.
    • the Hubs lost his wedding ring within a year on a canoe trip (it was $400 and he now wears a $50 ring that loves even more)
    • loved my white calla lilies that I walked down the aisle with
    • LOVED our location, WORTH every penny

    9. What were your colors?
    • fall colors like maroon, deep yellows and oranges

    10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which?
    • save the dates, invitations, table cards, place cards, and more I'm sure but it was 6 years ago and I can't remember what I did yesterday :P

    ••••

The older I get, the more I talk to more people about things they wish they changed. The number one thing that we all agree on is to not spend as much money on the wedding but to save it for the honeymoon. Also a couple of friends have eloped with a *few* family members and then came back to have a big reception for everyone else. Don't do what your family wants you do to or expects you to do, this day is about the both of you and your commitment to one another.

1, How long did you plan?
    About a year

    2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned?
All up, about $5000 AUD - including dress ($160), bridesmaids outfits, venue hire, food, wedding night, etc

    3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up?
We invited around 100, with about 80 coming.

    4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)?
I got personalised clear boxes and put M&Ms in them. And placed them on the tables.

    5. What season was your wedding in?
    Australian Spring (October)

    6. What time of day and day of the week was it?
Saturday morning, 11am - even though it's cheaper to do it outside the weekend, that makes it so much harder for your guests.

    7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out?
    Nothing really

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it?
The biggest single cost was probably our catering, about $1000 - absolutely worth it - we got a catering company to provide finger food and buffet style lunch in a hired hall. Nobody had to worry about whether they liked what was on offer, they could pick for themselves.

    9. What were your colors?
    White and burgundy accents

    10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which?
I made the invitations. We hired chair covers and table cloths. We went in and set up the hall ourselves the day before, and then the following day came back and cleaned up. My husband made his own beers for the guests to enjoy. I used my Mp3 player to provide for our music, attached to an amplifier and speakers.

It was pretty much perfect for us. We put $100 a week away for costs and came out without any debt.

1, How long did you plan? 4 months

    2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned? My parents paid for the meal so I do not know how much it was. Out of our pocket about $3,000

    4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)? no

    6. What time of day and day of the week was it? 4:00 saturday

    7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out? I wouldn't have spent as much and only invite my closest friends & family

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it? the rings, no I wouldn't have went with just plain bands

    9. What were your colors? floral - kind of purple and pink

    10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which? We had a family friend make the flower arrangements. And my sister made the bridesmaids dresses. They all turned out fabulous.

Our wedding was kind of cheesy. We got married at a church that basically just does weddings. They have a preplanned service. You just pick from a list which songs, readings, and vows you want. It takes about 20 minutes for the whole service. We didn't hire a photographer, but we got lucky because so many people took pictures and sent us copies. We also had a relative that made a video. I didn't even know she did it until she sent me a copy. We wanted to keep expenses down. This was my first wedding but not my hubby's. Looking back I wish we would have went a little more low-key. I would have had more fun in a park with my friends and close relatives. Renting a hall and inviting people who I haven't even seen since was silly.

1, How long did you plan? - Over a year. We booked our vendors 8-12 months in advance, but we booked the hall 14 months in advance.

    2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned? - Approximately $10,000 including a full buffet, beer, wine, champagne, and waiter service. Our biggest expense by far was the food, but we wanted our guests to have a great meal so they could enjoy the party.

    3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up? - We invited 100. 80 showed up.

    4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)? - We made little baggies with mints and placed them on the tables with a thank you note. It was nice, and we saved a lot by not doing personalized items.

    5. What season was your wedding in? - Summer

    6. What time of day and day of the week was it? - Saturday evening

    7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out? - Nothing. Our wedding was fantastic.

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it? - My cake. I went with an expensive cake vendor to get a beautiful cake that I loved, and it was great.

    9. What were your colors? - Purple, gold, and white.

    10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which? - We did a lot of the decor ourselves. Shopped a lot of sales and bought things on clearance over the year we were planning and saved a ton of cash.
