Am I the only one who hasn't read 50 Shades?

I TRIED to read it but it was so badly written I didn't get far. I hated it.0

Truly, you're not missing anything. Yes, I read through all three quickly, but the writing was TERRIBLE! Her editor should be fired for sure. Not only is the story so incredibly improbable (really, a multi-billionaire by age 27? Unless you are Mark Zuckerberg, I highly doubt it), she repeats words and phrases constantly. Did anyone ever count how many times the words murmur, mumble and mutter appear on each page? I did, and it's ridiculous! Does no one speak in a normal tone of voice in that fairy land of a book? It drove me nuts!0

No you are not...0

Honestly, it's madness.
I think it was the fact that my stepmother said "oh it's so dirty! It's like porn! You should read it, you can borrow my Kindle!"
All I could think was.. Yeah, I don't know if I want to touch your Kindle knowing that. I'll pass on your girly book.
that would turn me off to it or SURE!
But, I haven't read it. Have no desire to read it...BUT I do LOVE Shades Of Grey by Jasper Fforde (a 'punny-ish' alternative existance land)
I have not read Twiight, Harry Potter, Or that one with the ids that are on the 'killl each other reality show -thingy', what was the name of those boooks? Katnis was the girl, I think... Anyway- no I don't read that stuff.
(I also did not atch "Titanic" and am the only one at my church that has not seenThe Passion of Christ or Fireproof"...LOL)0 -
Nope. I haven't. That, Twilight, and True Blood are all on my "will never watch list."0

Read the first book and got half way and realized I just couldn't make it through the rest. However I was still curious to see what horrible things the author came up with so I started reading these hilarious recaps instead.

There is absolutely no comparison between Harry Potter and Twilight/50 Shades. Not even in the same universe as far as quality and readability. HP is the classic (and well-written) good vs. evil, internal struggle, coming of age story (think Star Wars level quality). Twilight is "this guy is cute and I'll die without him!" And 50 Shades, well ...
And I didn't like Hunger Games (book or movie), but it also CANNOT be compared to Twilight and 50 Shades. Worlds better and an entirely different kind of story.
Just because something is popular doesn't mean it isn't good. Sometimes something is popular because it actually is that good. But if you feel better about yourself for not reading or watching or listening to something simply because a lot of other people enjoyed it, then you're the one missing out.
*shrug*0 -
absolute drivel - you are so much better off without it. I wish I could get back the time I wasted attempting to read it. Mind you I didn't even get through the first book.
edited for typo0 -

I found a vlogger on YouTube who's doing a "Let's Read" of this and it's really the only way I can get through it (especially since she hates it, so she makes jokes and comments all the way through). All the murmering! How to they even hear each other? Does E.L. James even know what "murmer" means???? It makes absolutely no sense.
And why are all of Ana's thoughts "unbidden"????
If anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/emmablackery
She's 21 and British (I thought Australian at first, but I guess that's just the Essex accent???) and she actually acts out some of the things in the book so you really get a picture of how ridiculous it all is.0 -
not remotely interested. same goes for twilight. ugh0
-
Nope, not got a jot of interest in it. I picked it up in HMV out of curiosity one time and I couldn't even read a full paragraph. Awfully written!0
-
I'd rather step on my own nuts.
I agree and I don't have nuts.0 -
I have not read it either. It's a judgment call for me. I take a look at the people who have recommended I read it, and I've come to the conclusion that they are not the most literate people in the world. Also, I rarely read fiction. The funny thing is all I keep hearing is it's straight up verbal porn. Which I'm not a total prude. To each his own. But not once has anyone told me ANYTHING about the plot of this novel. Which speaks volumes to me.0

Nope doesn't sound like it would be very good or my type of book.
I generally avoid books that get over hyped, cause yeah, I won't revisit the Twilight thing. That was a horrid book and a horrid movie.
Though, the hunger games was actually good, not at all what I expected the books to be like.

Read till the first sex scene and found it to be boring. Seriously people need to explore more since bondage and all the stuff in the book has been around for ages....0
-
Eh...
My sex life is better then any book.0 -
nope..ill wait for the movies just like I did with Twilight and Hunger Games0
-
I read about 5 pages before I threw the book away. It was so badly written that it annoyed the heck out of me. It felt like I was reading a bad Mills and Boon. The biggest load of rubbish ever!0
-
I haven't read it and don't intend to, purely because the excepts I've been exposed to have left the writer in me cringing at the god-awful wince-worthy writing style.
There is more erotic literature on the same topic out there than you could shake a stick at--why bother with something so dreadful?0 -
jumping off a building sounds better... and I like to read....0
-
Life is too short to read ****ty books.0
-
I haven't read it yet, but only because I want to read all the other books I've downloaded on my Kindle first.0
-
Haha, my friend found out I liked the Anne Rice vampire chronicles and recommended I read Twilight. That's probably why I have such a bad attitude towards literature that gets over-hyped.0
-
I have heard Bared To You is better x0
-
I've read some of it but not the entire series. I'm really not that interested. There's better smut fan fiction I could read. lol.0
-
I haven't.0
-
I tried to read the first book after it was highly recommended by several friends. I don't read a lot of popular fiction. I found the writing style juvenile, the plot predictable, and the sex ho-hum. I just don't get it. I think we've become very "dumbed down" in America.0
-
I haven't read it. When you've read one book like that, you've pretty much read them all.0
-
nope, you're not only one, I've never read it!0
