    I haven't, and while I'm a teeny bit curious to see what all the fuss is about, I'm not planning on reading it.

    Let's see: I want to write a book that millions will read.
    I know - I'll fill it with unbridled sexual content - that will guarantee me that about 10 million poeple in the U.S. will read it. I'll make it so filthy that the critics will condemn it roundly. That way, another 10 million will read it just to see what all the hubbub is about.

    I hope that when authors like this (and several Supreme Court judges) die, they will be brought before Thomas Jefferson and the other framers of the Constitution to explain exactly how this kind of trash is Constitutionally guaranteed 'free speech'. On second thought, I'd rather not see one of the greatest men in American history crying.

    Just because something is popular doesn't mean it isn't good. Sometimes something is popular because it actually is that good. But if you feel better about yourself for not reading or watching or listening to something simply because a lot of other people enjoyed it, then you're the one missing out.

    I never said it made me (or made me feel like ) a better person for not reading them, or feel better about myself. Just simply pointing out the long list of 'popular' media that I haven't been interested in. But thanks for judging my motives for me.

    You are not the only one. I actually tried to read it, found it boring and I wanted to throat punch Ana.
    I read about 50 pages and decided I would stick to actual porn....

    I avoided and avoided ... especially as I primarily read non-fiction ... but curiosity finally got the better of me and I downloaded it.

    AWFUL! What a waste of time! The style of writing is poor, the content even worse. How can someone bite their lip that much, much 'mutter' and 'murmur' everything they say instead of just speak directly. I actually finished the first book because I was incredulous it could continue in such a manner the whole way through.

    And as a mother of an 18 year old daughter ... who is bright, ambitious, confident, yet impressionable given her age ... I'm saddened at the message it could give females. And as the founder of my own company ... saddened at the fairy tale that doesn't talk about hard work, setting goals, earning respect, celebrating true achievement.

    If you like MyFitnessPal, seem incongruent to like 50 Shades. Begs the question ... why is it so popular? Sad.

    Nope haven't read it and don't intend to either. I've heard the writing style isn't very good at all.

    It sounds dumb, although I did enjoy the sookie stackhouse series.

    Yes! I only have the first book but I have followed True Blood.
    I picked up and put down the Sookie Stackhouse books so many times -- the back just sounded so stupid, I couldn't bring myself to buy them. I finally caved at a used book store, and was immediately hooked. They're brain candy, sure, but that's fine by me.

    As for the 50 shades books, I have not read them, nor do I have a desire to. Normally when something hits it so big, I'm curious enough to look into it...but I read several reviews saying how poorly it was written, like an un-edited, self-published e-book. Not really into reading about subs/doms, either, so why bother?

    I haven't read the book yet. Though, I might considering I have a co-worker reading it and she is hooked (she hates reading too!)

    I'm resisting reading it. If I read an erotic book, then after a few pages, I get distracted, and then I don't want to read anymore. Or I skip forward to the good parts, and the story is lost on me. I will see the movie if Ian Somerhalder or Ryan Gosling is Christian Grey, though.

    From what I've heard, they wouldn't appeal to me. If I'm going to spend my time reading a book, I would rather it be intellectually stimulating. I get plenty of the other kind of stimulation. :wink:

    Literally and without question the absolute WORST book I've ever read. Don't bother with it, it was *kitten*.


    Ummm Try the Sleeping Beauty Triliogy by Anne Rice. Ok, I'll admit Im kinky, but not that far....

    Not into anything that smacks cult reading, like you have to read it cause Oprah or someone like that says you should. I like fantasy and murder mystery genres better although from what I have heard 50 shades is more of a fantasy! :smooched:

    You can find better erotica for free online. As for the Twilight connection, she totally ripped it off.

    HAHAHA!! I haven't read it either, but had a lunch date with a friend just yesterday and she INSISTED that I read them! Said they were ten times better than Twilight series and she's HARD CORE Twilight. So, I'll give 'em a read...eventually! :D

    I have read them. They are poorly written and predictable. I enjoy a good smut book and while they did have some steamy sexy scenes the entertainment value was low. Won't read again.

    awful. I suffered through the first half and decided it was enough. I'm not a prude by any means but it was just terribly written and hopelessly predictable. And stupid.

    I couldn't even GIVE the book away. I tossed it in the trash 2 weeks ago. Never in my life have I thrown a book away...

    I haven't read it either, not much of a fan of romance or the whole erotic fiction stuff. When I heard that it was based on crummy Twilight fan-fiction, any desire that I might have had to read it (not that I had any) was squashed.
