When people don't wipe down the equipment after they use it.

    When people stare.

When you're on the treadmill on the very end, all the other ones are open and someone rolls up and takes the treadmill RIGHT next to you. And don't even make the excuse that it's because they want to watch a certain TV - at my gym, all the cardio machines have televisions built in.

Those guys that just seem to pace around the gym. Wtf. Why are you even here. Go pace at home or at Target or something.

I agree the gym should have floor staff telling them to rock on home if they're not working out, lingerers are the worst!

when people try to talk to me in the middle of a breathing motion. I have 45 minutes to work out at lunch and it goes by fast and need that whole 45 minutes to work out. Sounds mean but please don't chit chat with me.!!!

People who don't put their stuff away in the right spot (spray bottles, towels, weights, magazines, trash including used gum).

I really only have two that get to me:

    1. People who monopolize the squat rack to use it for anything other than deadlifts and squats.

    2. People who hog a piece of equipment so that you can't work in with them despite the fact that their rests in between sets are long enough for them to take time to socialize.

My boyfriend agrees with #1 whole heartedly. There are times he will wait 45 mins to an hour for the 1 squat rack at the gym because people hog the thing for a million different other reasons, then text during their rest times and it drives him crazy. So annoying.

I always think it is super funny when people leave without a single drop of sweat on their shirt. I understand some people don't sweat that much but really? These are most likely people that stand around in groups bull****ting or talk on their phone in between random sets of curls and tricep pulldowns.

aww- sorry it was a bad experience- Zumba is minimal talking- because the non verbal cueing should be excellent. I teach this format, and I also use a mic during class, but I don't talk a lot- we want people to feel the music too.

I'd say try another instructor-and let them know, what frustrated you- we all need that feedback to get better

I never wipe down the machines unless I have broken sweat. I had just walked into the gym and was on my first set of the day (lat pulldowns). I'm done and some old lady approaches me "are you going to wipe that down?" I took a shower before I came to the gym and wasn't even close to sweating. Whats the point of wiping it down?

Then the old lady (why she is doing lat pulldowns is beyond me) proceeds to do 1 set with 4 reps, then wipe the machine down like she is dusting for fingerprints. She spent about 10 times the amount of time wiping down the machine as she did using it.

    Seems silly to me.

But you still have germs on your hands and body... You can still spread - and contract - stuff by touching the equipment. It's not just about sweat, dude. It takes all of 10 seconds to wipe the handles off.

I realize that there is "Family Swim Time" at the gym, I do not swim on day's/times I know that this is happening because I dislike noisy children in a pool, but for the love of everything that is holy please stop letting your kids run FULL FREAKING TILT through the locker rooms on their quest for the pool. There are people walking around blind corners that your children keep RUNNING into.

Half the time the floors are wet! Your kids are going to get hurt running through the wet shower room like that.

Also the sign reads that boys under the age of 4 are allowed to walk through the ladies locker room, I realize they may still be clinging to your skirts but a 9 year old boy has NO Business in the ladies locker room. I was half naked you bumbling twit, and giving ME the stink eye because I was in a towel? Bull, F***ing S***.

It's understandable why a boy in the locker room would bother any woman. I'd probably feel skeeved out if it weren't my own kid. But here's why I'd be paranoid about my young child going into a public restroom without me. These incidents took place this year alone:

Stories like these make me want to escort my son to the potty until he's 18. ;) Perhaps it'd be better for all if a family locker room was offered at gyms, like the ones they have at airports.

For me, it's not wiping down the equipment when you've really been sweating up a storm--just gross!

2 of mine are the standard not wiping down and not reracking weights. The other one relates to the very small gym I belong to. It's the cardio queens that come in and start on the treadmill and increase the incline but then support their weight on the side bars for 30 mintes, then move onto the elliptical for 30 more and then to the bike for 30 more, never picking up a weight and using a machine.

I know it's none of my business what they do but to seeing them just pounding at the cardio after cardio after cardio, day after day after day. Thier body shape never changes or shows improvement. If I had to do that, I'd shoot myself!! I don't know how or, even less, why they do this. I totally get the benefit of some cardio but really.....

I would so love a family locker room for parents with kids, that would get rid of the whole problem IMO. Adult Men, Adult Women, Parents with Kids. Done lol.

I just joined a gym for the first time yesterday, so I wanted to read this as more of a 'what not to do at the gym'.

My boyfriend got so mad at me yesterday because instead of switching out on one machine I wanted us to use two of them at once, so we could move on faster. He was pissed. My bad... It wasn't even busy.. But he got mad at this one guy for using a machine he wanted to use for more than 5 minutes without getting off. Too bad they only had the one.. I would have just walked to another kind of machine and done something else in the mean time. I mean, hell, we just joined, you don't have a routine! Haha.. I guess that is his #1 pet peeve!

But I will say that he is a 'pacer' of sorts. It pumps him up, I think. But I can see how it may make others feel weird. Even when he lifts at the house, he will pace around the house between sets. I just ignore him.

Our local Y has a family changing room. It is a common hall with lockers...and 10-12 changing rooms complete with shower and toilet. When I took my son and nephew this summer, I sent them into one room, and went into another myself. They were literally a shout away.

Theres this one guy at the gym I go to. He loads up a squat rack for his curls, does a set and walks away. I stroll along, seeing noone there, intending to do deadlifts and he comes hollaring from the other side of the gym.

I can deal with people sitting on a machine taking a rest between sets, but if you use a machine or w/e and you're on the other side of the gym to socialize, you should go to a pub instead.

    Thats my biggest peeve.

I hate that people come to the gym and then sit on machines to chat to their friends. I know I can ask them to move, but really, how inconsiderate. If they want to chat, they can do it somewhere where they are not taking up gym equipment. I don't think that's too much to ask.
