I think those are all good ideas. Whatever helps you stick to your program is good-- you won't have much fun if you're constantly worrying that you're derailing yourself!0

No, not crazy at all. It is a sign that you are truly trying to do better with your food choices. My famliy took a vacation to the beach this summer, and normally we would have just eaten out every night with no thought to what kind of crap and how many calories we were eating. But this time, we planned ahead. We picked one night that we were going to go to our favorite restaurant there (Joes Crab Shack), and then we made other healthier plans for the other time .On the days that we were going to be on the beach for extended periods, we took a cooler full of water, fruit, and other healthy snacks. We also made a point of walking as much as possible, taking the stairs at the hotel, etc. This was a huge thing for us! It is a great idea to plan ahead in this kind of situation so that you can not get derailed!0

For me, it's all about making decisions. If you have all the healthy stuff available and choose to have a danish one morning, big whoop. But don't eat the danish because you have no other option. Having the good stuff around is an awesome idea! If I eat junk it's gonna be because I CHOOSE to eat junk and not for lack of reasonable alternatives.0

NOPEl ! Not Crazy! I travel for work, and I pack food all of the time to ensure I stay on my eating plan. But I travel overseas and it's harder to find certain things, but I always try to get a room with a mini bar fridge and hit the local grocery store for fresh fruit and veggies. I went on Vac to Hawaii in June and actually lost 2 lbs.!!0

i think that its awesome and just a great thing to do, i believe it will keep you focused and balanced. good idea , something i would do . And in all of that have a fun time:)0

Not crazy! Your making a plan so you don't get off track and then feel guilty...I would splurge for one meal out to eat though for sure0

having healthy snacks on hand is a good idea, the scale and measuring cup are a little nutty
I agree. If it's just to weigh some fruit and milk, I'd go ahead and eyeball it for 3 days. But whatever keeps you on track is a good thing.
I'm in agreement here too. If you are sticking with fresh foods, and we're not talking fresh 20 oz rib-eyes, then I don't think you'll blast your calorie intake that much. Just take the 3 days and enjoy the trip!0 -

You don't need the scale, but I love the rest of your plan. I absolutely hate staying away from home for extended time. It really sucks having to eat out every meal. We don't eat out that much at home, so when we take to the road my stomach turns on me after a few days of eating nothing but restaurant food. I don't mind eating at restaurants on a limited basis, but existing off them for several days really wears me down.0

I disagree with the posters who imply that taking time to weigh your food is related to not taking an enjoyable vacation. For some people, that may be true, but for me, I'd be so proud of myself for eating well that it would IMPROVE my enjoyment of my vacation.
I think that weighing and measuring your food while you're gone is totally fine. As long as it isn't impeeding your dinner plans with your family (which doesn't sound like it is, only for breakfast and lunch I understood), then that's great! And think of how much more you'll enjoy eating out when you do go!0 -

Well, it's your vacation. So you need to do what you need to do in order to be relaxed and enjoy yourself. If taking all of your stuff makes you feel better, then you should BY ALL MEANS take it! It would be a total drag to leave it behind and then stress over something you could so easily have kept control over -- could dampen an otherwise lovely trip.
I would caution, however, against restaurant chicken Caesar salads. Many have over 1,000 calories and a ton of sodium. You're usually not doing your fitness a favor by having that for dinner -- unless you have the dressing on the side and skip the cheese and croutons.

You do exactly what you feel is best for YOU! If you want to wing it, then wing it. If you rather play it safe and continue with your healthy eating, than that's fantastic! You are not going to far by bringing your food scale. Your planning ahead and thinking smart. Give yourself a pat on the back0

As for the ceasar salad, I do plan on getting the dressing on the side....croutons, bacon and cheese will remain! Hahaha! Also, I'm really hoping I find the determination/motivation to find a gym on at least one of the days. I will be walking around a lot more too though!
With all of the walking (or gym time) and being good while he's gone all day, my hope is to offset my supper with all my other good habits. Fingers crossed!!0 -
Don't forget to take the cooler!! You'll need to use it (with hotel ice) to keep some of those items fresh.
I think this is a great plan and if we all planned ahead this well we'd be a lot further ahead. I often use vacations as an excuse to put anything I like in my mouth. There hasn't been one time that I came home after indulging and said to myself, "good for you". I typically would come home and reflect on all the grand adventures but then feel poorly for gaining weight.
I am planning to incorporate the preplanning and portable lunches into my daily routine when I'm on the road for meetings. It should help reduce the number of restaurant meals.

I do the same thing when we camp.
So, no, I don't think you're crazy.
But I do get the "crazy" look when I'm weighing out my oatmeal in the morning at the picnic table while everyone else is downing the bacon and eggs that were cooked in grease over the fire.0 -
I think the measuring cup and scale might be a tad far, but I think bringing healthy hotel friendly foods so you don't run across the street and binge on junk food is a phenomenal idea! Enjoy!0

Weigh the milk.
It's almost 1 gram per ml.
If your scale says 157 grams, just read that as 157 ml. You'll be within 3%.

You sound prepared, maybe a tiny bit crazy with the scale and measuring cups...if I was going on a mini vacation I wouldn't worry about bringing a scale and all that, especially if it's supposed to be a vacation.0
