What's the most backhanded compliment you've ever recieved?

You would be so pretty if you had cheekbones. Brutal mum....0

Mine wasn't about weight. It came from an old boss. I'd been working my *kitten* off on a case, and he had a conference call with the client. Afterwards, he called me into his office and said "{client} really likes you. I don't know why, but she does." WTF? I quit that job and went to work for his arch-enemy0

"You'd probably be really pretty if you did something with your hair.. and wore make up." And the classic "You're pretty but you'd be so hot if you lost some weight."
Thankfully, I've grown in self confidence and put negative comments from secondary school behind me! :laugh:0 -
"You look nice today. You really know how to dress for your body shape."0
-
Texts from my ex-husband:
"I swear it's like once girls are with me they stop trying. You are losing weight now that we're apart."
"Ha ha ha but at least you were never people of walmart" (In regard to the way I dress, I apparently dress better than his current gf, but still not "good enough"...)
"I hinted but I didn't want to hurt your feelings, I always hinted at wearing makeup."
I am so sad that the relationship with him has ended. (NOT!! Ha ha ha.)0 -

Bad bosses are the worst! My last boss gave me a low score on my review for "appearance", and I asked him why: he said "It's nothing about the way you look, your makeup and hair look fine, it's just that you look like you're not all *there*"
And then a few months later, I wasn't there, literally, got a new job.0 -
You would be so pretty if only you lost weight. Amber can lose all the weight she wants, but she will never be as pretty as Jessica. Both of those came from the same person - my step-dad's sister. Jessica is her daughter. That's one of the many reasons I no longer talk to her, my step-dad and most of my family!0

"Wow- you aren't fat anymore..." [From a less than classy girl that I see randomly at bars sometimes- she's obsessed with my boyfriend who I've been with for 6 years- ya, one of those...]
"If you'd cut your hair short it'd probably make you face look thinner" - [from my mom before I lost weight]
"If you'd grow your hair longer it'd probably make your face look thinner" - [mom, again. :noway: ]
"If they walk so much, why don't they look like Brittany(me)?" [a co-worker referring to the women I work with that are always walking around the building instead of doing their jobs. I took it as an insult because people think that since they walk around in circles that they should look like me - a person who counts every calorie into my body and lifts weights 6 days a week. :grumble: - apparently ignorance IS bliss...]0 -

Damn. If my step parent said that to me, odds are no one would want anything to do with me after I told them how I really felt.0 -
You look fantastic for a mother of three. WTH, can't I simply look fantastic.0
-
Natasha, you look like a pornstar. Just without boobs.
Thanks man!0 -
One of the best ones was this gem;
"You look kinda cute... well if you didn't have all that stuff in your face and drawing's all over your body".
Lynchburg0 -
You're kinda fly...
for a white guy.
:laugh:0 -
From my ex husbands grnadmother:
"you're so big and pretty!" :noway:0 -

The worst part is, my step-dad's sister, who made those comments, is a counselor. When I broke of contact with my family, I went to see a therapist because I was suffering from depression, and she just happened to work there. She had the nerve to come up and ask me if everything was okay with my marriage!! I wanted to punch her in the face! So happy to have them out of my life.0 -

'But you're not like a real girl are you Ali?!'
What the?! Last time I checked I was! *sigh*0 -
Oh I remembered another one- saw a friend from High School, she asked what I was up to these days, I explained I had still had toddlers at home so I'm at home with them, her reply "Oh but you were so smart at school, I thought for sure you'd be one of those scientists who cures cancer or something."
Gees, thanks, yeah, it's such a shame all my brain cells fell out of my uterus when I had children.
LOL :laugh:0 -
I girl who friend zoned me once told me after one a break up she just wished she could meet a guy more like me. I'm guessing maybe she meant only better looking?0

At my younger brother's graduation party, my great aunt said to me, "I always thought you were the prettiest of all the girls in the family... you know as long as you keep the weight off."
Backhanded though it may be, I still thought it was sweet.0 -
I'm not really sure if it was a backhanded compliment.... But I wasn't sure whether to be flattered or hurt.
This guy at the gym said, "Damn, you've gotten so slim! But your legs are still nice and thick."
I know he meant well, because he likes "thick" legs. But it made me feel like a tree.0 -
You must have been beautiful when you were younger0
-
From my mother-in-law, on my wedding day, when she first sees me as I'm about to go down the aisle: "Sara, you look beautiful! You look nothing like yourself."0
-
My dad, yesterday: You are losing all your weight up top. I know this, and if I could get it off my legs and booty first, I definitely would!!!0
-
Several ex's have commented on they don't miss me... just Mr Happy :huh:0
-
I live in the south so they all start with "bless your heart..."0
-
I'll never forget this one. "Your tummy looks fine for having 2 kids." Both my kids are ADOPTED so my belly fat has nothing to do with them! Sheesh!0
-
You're going to be skinnier than me soon. What? Thanks. . .0
-
"You remind me of my grandma"0
