Kayla... My old neighbor of probably 15 years still think my name is Kaitlyn.... I get Kara and Kylie a lot... sometimes Kayle.... Sometimes I'll correct you (if there is a chance that I'll have a long standing relationship with you), but most times I just answer to whatever K name they use. Oh and my step sister is Kyla (poor girl, my mom calls her Kayla a lot! LOL at least I don't still live at home).
Had a LOT of issues with my maiden name (Wiles). Got Wiley's, Willie's. Really? How hard is it? The only one who seemed to get it right was our pastor "Wiles of the Devil" anyone? LOL
And my married name is NOT pronounced like it is spelled because it is German. It is pronounced Chrone, but always get croon. I used to correct people, but now I can't be bothered, but a little piece of me dies every time a family member mispronounces it (I'm talking my hubby's cousins who have known him their whole lives. Come on people!).
Do you have a relative who is/was a 4th grade teacher in Illinois?0 -

My name is Deidre.. its different.. its pronounced.. Dee Dree.. long e's. Irish, I think..Teachers in school called me Deimetree or other names their heads made up? or Deidra.. which is I believe like German... like Deidre Hall. So, most my life I just say Dee. Then as a preschool teacher they called me Miss Dee. Then it became Misty by parents and such. Are you kidding me? Anyway, my name is unique its true. There are quiet a few Deidres nowdays. It really doesnt bother me if someone can not say it right. I sometimes correct the doctors office sometimes I dont care at least they tried. I have done the same. 'Jesus' -spanish in telmarketing before my name registered in my brain the correct way. Forgiven.0

My name is Matt George. Since e-mails and contacts are listed per last names, I get e-mails, calls, and people calling me George all the time. I'm to the point where when someone calls me George I say "That George guy is an a-hole, but Matt, this awesome guy right here can help you."
I even get those crappy junk mailers addressed to George Matthews.0 -

My names Genevieve, it even has an accent which i think puts people off. It's a french name and even to spell it phonetically doesn't help people pronounce it correctly.
Starbucks employees also hate it as they just can't figure out the spelling, its either Jenevieve, Jenvieve, Jeneve. or my favourite, Jennifer.
Then I kick myself why i didn't give them my nick name which is shorter but apparently just as hard to pronounce? Ginny, not Jenny or Genny. It's Gin-ie. Not too difficult haha0 -
You wouldn't beleive the stories I could tell you about my name and how many people get tripped up buy it.
Linli.
90% of the time people will start off confident with "Lin..." and they just kind of leave it hanging, train off etc.
Trying to spell it for people is worse.
ME: It's "L", "I", "N"
THEM: (writing the letters down as I say them)
ME: "L" "I"
THEM: I already got that, what comes after the N.
ME: "L" "I"
THEM: Is that your last name? Are you Chinese?
ME: :noway:0 -
I called my son Camden and regret it already. Poor kid will be confused with Cameron for the rest of his life.
Or Trenton.0 -

Also, I go by Berni and when my husband and I are together and I introcude us as Brock and Berni, people always think I'm Brock and he's is Berni...lol0 -
My name is Veronica but my professors call me Vicky or Victoria all the time. How the heck do you get Vicky or Victoria from Veronica? I can see V or Ronnie but the others? These are professors for crying out loud. :noway:
Well, my name is Valerie and I get called Veronica, Vicky, or Victoria.
Also, sometimes, oddly enough, Rhoda. Let's see who get's that.0 -

I get this all the time! My name is LuAnn but I get called Joanne, Leanne, Maryanne, Lilian, Mary Lou. I'm thinking I should just start telling people my name Jen - short, simple, well-known, and easy to pronounce (plus I know lots of Jen's and they are all great people!)
ETA: After reading through the posts, I guess that the name Jen can still be butchered! I guess no name is safe!0 -

I have had this all my life! My name is Tisha (pronounced Tee-sha), and without fail, people get it wrong for AT LEAST the first time they hear / read it, if not many times after that... It’s not short for anything, I swear, it’s my full name.
Miss-spellings: Tesher, Teeshar, Teesha, Ticia, Tecia,
Wrong Name: Tish, Teesh, Trisha (the most common by far, even from people replying to my emails - with my name quite clearly at the bottom) Tina, Trina, Lisa, Patricia, Latisha, Mortisha/Morticia (Cracked me up!), Keisha.
And my upstairs neighbour, for some reason, calls me Ann... Explain that one!?!
** Edited to add, I just took a phone call...
ME: Hi, Tisha speaking, can I help?
HIM: Hi Katie...

My name is Caroline (like the Neil Diamond song, "Sweet Caroline") more often then not, people call me Carolyn, which drives me crazy. Sometimes I correct them, others I don't, depends on my mood.
I've also had people say "oh, ok I'll just call you Carol"...Oh no you won't, my name is Caroline, if I wanted to be called Carol, I would have introduced myself that way.0 -
I have a longer name, but my short name is Shemi, I get shami, shemmie , and sherri...all the time . My name pronounced is "(shem-e). My real name, is Shemsija pronounced Shem-c-ya. My name is Rochelle (french spelling) I get Rachel an Michelle frequently by people who don't pay attention. Then there are the people who care too much and say "Is is pronounced RA-shell or RO-shell?". I typically say RA-shell, but RO-shell is fine too.0
