Is there a better way to eat pizza?

Yesterday I had a 12" Domino's Pan Pizza w pep and jalapeño. After doing the nutrician math I was shocked at the total and how bad it actually was. I mean I knew it wasn't good but DAMN. Just one slice was a lot on the daily stats.

Anyone know if the are any short cuts when eating pizza? Or is it just that way and should accompanied with an hour of Insanity work out?

Btw, I'm still gonna eat it every now and then. Just sayin....

Homemade! Takes the convenience out, but so much easier to make it healthier and make sure you get just the right amount of the toppings you like :)

Make your own! Trader Joe's has an easy roll out crust and put your own toppings on :) Countless veggie topping ideas, but if you want to make your pepperoni pizza healthier, try turkey pepperoni with low fat cheese and throw on your jalapenos instead :)

Stuck on Domino's? Guess try this: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/sparkdining-eatery.asp?id=36

Make your own. Use Cauliflower crust pizza recipes those are the BOMB!!!
Don't eat the crusts. Actually I do this at Pizza buffets to eat more pizza than crust.
Order thin crusts with easy cheese and easy sauce. All the veggies you want and as few meat products as you can handle.

If the pizza slice fits your macros, then go for it.
  • I like making my pizzas on a tortilla, it's really tasty and it's a lot less calories than the pizza dough. It's quite thin so it also prevents you from putting too many toppings on it.

I have something like that every now and then. And I think to myself 'bugger the calories and fat, I'm going to eat this and enjoy it'. Then the next day, I go back to counting and caring what I eat.
You only live once, and I don't want to make myself miserable by stressing over a nice bit of pizza now and then. I also don't see the point in making my own, which will be fine but won't satisfy me and will leave me feeling cheated because it's not what I really wanted.

I don't eat pizza often. I plan for it when I do, though, and just fit it in. It's one of those things I'm going to splurge on when I have it.

But as far as a better way? Anything but Dominoes! Ew! lol

only eat it a few times a year...that is the truth ...

You can make your own and it will be better but still carb and calorie rich..

if you must get a pizza get a small thin crust....

Life is all about choices...you can drop the weight and drop dominos...or add dominos and add weight :)

pick up, fold, chew - works best for me

seriously - try to find a simple thin-crust pizza that you like and works with your diet. I eat a lot of Margherita style and just keep it to 1 or 2 slices

    Eat it backwards!!

I eat pizza all the time, it fits my macros and i still fit into my pants. Weird..
  • Pizza bread instead of pizza!

Get a baguette, cut it in half long-ways. Put your toppings on (use low fat cheese!) and grill it. It's still not great, but is WAY better than Dominoes!

Well first, don't get a chain store pizza. If you don't have any good pizza places where you live, then make your own. My homemade pizza is delicious and just a little over 200 calories per slice with meats and veggies and plenty of cheese. Two slices fill me up for less than 500 calories.

Home made, thin, and with just the basic ingredients: tomato, basil, mozzarella and a bit of olive oil.
This is how real pizza is meant to be, by the way...

    Cheers from Italy :)

One of my passions - I think Pizza gets a bad rap. However, I think like anything else there is "good pizza" and there is "bad pizza" (taste wise there is no bad pizza - ha). There is also a "good way to eat pizza" and a "bad way to eat pizza".

Pizza is essentially bread (carbs) Sauce (if good sauce, no different from tomatos) and cheese (protein/calcium).

These can all be part of a healthy regimen if eaten smartly and in moderation.

For me - I immediately rule chain pizza and frozen pizza as garbage. Why? Because I think it uses highly processed lower quality ingredients than homemade or pizza from a good local pizza shop. So I go to my local guy who speaks broken english, uses good quality "stuff" and makes it in front of me. My goal for 2013 is to make my own.

As far as eating, I eat pizza "smartly". I order a pie maybe once per month. I don't get any sort of over-the-top crap put on it. No pepperoni, no sausage, no meat-lovers crap, no extra cheese etc. I get a simple well done pie with mushrooms - period. I eat two slices with a healthy salad and I freeze the remaining slices - there's the solution to buying crappy, boxed frozen pizza.

It's fits my macros, satisfies my incredible joy of eating it and I do not plan to give it up - works for me and I think it can work for anyone else who loves pizza and does not want a big gut...

    My 2 cents

Make one with a fajita base, or if not only cook half and have it with salad

My echoed suggestion: Homemade -- which, by the by, doesn't have to translate as "inconvenient" if you plan ahead. The more you can control the nutritional content of your food, the better.

My homemade sausage & pepperoni pizza is 250 cal./slice (8 slices/16" pie), made with 2/3 lb. from-scratch dough, 1/2 c. from-scratch sauce, 1 c. low-moisture/part-skim mozzarella, 1/2 c. pork sausage, and exactly 14 slices Hormel pepperoni. Not too shabby considering it's not thin-crust; and according to my husband, it stomps any competition. Add a 159 cal. slice of my homemade dessert pizza (8 slices/8" pie) and you've consumed a hair over 400 cal. Again, not bad for an occasional treat.

The key to pizza is moderation -- a side salad helps. :)

I agree with the homemade option although mine is Semi-homemade. I grab one of those whole wheat crusts. We eat it with a huge salad . BUT, if you are just craving take out pizza, eat it and move on.

I eat pizza all the time. Eating thin crust (which I prefer anyway) will cut a decent amount of calories. I think it's good to add things such as peppers and veggies rather than just doing meat lovers, which is not good quality meat anyway, usually. It's also a good idea to make it yourself at home.

Make your own. You have control over portions of ingredients AND you can make whatever toppings combos you want.
