Ladies ONLY - Do you weigh more on your period?

I started my MFP weight loss journey back at the end of September, so since then I weigh daily [weigh - in weekly], so i've only had two periods since i've been weighing daily, and I was very nervous about when my periods come, because I have always read that people gain a lot of weight on them. Long story short, on the two periods I have had since starting this site, I have lost weight both times, I don't suspect this to keep happening, but I have yet to gain weight while on my "TOM".
Well it's not fat weight that you gain! it's moslty water weight! so you loose it! If you are loosing weight you are going to loose weight regardless of your period but during you will not loose as much or retain some weight due to water!
Yes, I am aware that it's not "fat weight" and that it's "water weight", I was just stating my experience with "gaining or not gaining" while i'm on my TOM. Thanks! =]0 -
No matter what... I still love the amazing things us women can do. It amazes me how much our bodies work.
And I don't gain till prior to it starting and I drink tons of water and workout like crazy because sometimes people can tell when your on your "girlie". Ive noticed just doing my normal routine but increasing the water intake and exercising helps keep my bloat to a minimal. So I rarely go through the effects of it.
The joys of womanhood...0 -
Have any of you had your uterus removed? I had mine out a couple years ago, but not my ovaries. So I still get hormone cycles, but not a period. Which is WONDERFUL! But I do wonder if I still would have the typical weight gain from water retention. Is it dependant on hormones or the uterus? Logically it seems I would still have it, but it's so hard to tell because I don't really know when my cycle would be...
Anyone in this situation?0 -
Yes Anywhere between 2-7 lbs.****ing sucks. I hide the scale, and just keep on keeping on :P0

It's funny how everytime I need help, motivation or information there is always a thread out there!!
I weigh in on Thursdays and was bummed that I started my period Monday. THis morning when I wieighed I was the same weight as last thursday. But I am still plugging along doing what I have to cause I know my hard work will pay off in the end!!
Oh and I do find myself more hungry during this time too, craving my snackey foods, so I just have to work them into my diary!!!1 -
Yes. I weigh more.0

I gain 2lbs during my period time!!0

I weighed 2 lbs heavier the week I had my period. Once I was off of it, I had lost 4 lbs, and I am NOT convinced it happened in a week lol.
ditto to this....to the exact lb!0 -
I might weigh a little bit more while on my period, but I always figured it was just because I won't put the bottle of vodka or pickaxe down long enough to get on the scale during that week.0

Definitely... TMI.. but I just started a lighter flow yesterday afternoon/early evening and was full flow this am... Hopped on the scale and was up 6 lbs!!!! SIX FREAKING LBS!!!! Hoping to see it go back to nomal in a few days!0

Almost always a 3 lb weight gain. I don't weigh myself from the time I get TOM until a week later!!!0
-
I gain up to 8lbs the week before (yupp I think 8lbs was the mot I had) - then vanishes again after ... so yes, it is pretty normal I guess0
-
i usually end up gaining 2-5 lbs on my period......which is just water weight that will go away. i dont worry about exercising the first couple of days, cause i'm too busy dealing with cramps0
-
Yes, I weight more at TOM.0
-
I weigh more just before. Once it starts I usually have to pee more (can I say that), which I guess is the excess water leaving.0

Thank you all for all of the wonderful answers.
Periods are the worse...
They totally are the worst. The things we go through for the ability to bear children..
I'm glad to still have them. I like still having my own home-grown estrogen,0 -
One thing you can do is get one of those exercise velcro body wrap things. You wrap it tightly around your middle and it helps you keep the water weight down. Plus it almosts acts like a heating pad if you are cramping.0

Thank god its not just me then, was very gutted when i jumped pn the scales this morning, put on 2lbs since yesterday. This is my second day of mentruating so hopefully should be back on track next week0

Yes, about 3-5 pounds.
I've decided to just not weigh myself that week.0 -

me too - I remember one month I put on 12lbs ans lost 14 the following week - this week it's been 7 so far, no weigh for me this week0 -
always 2-4 pounds heavier. I stay away from the scale for at least 2 weeks!!!!0

I definitely retain water around that oh-so-special time of the month. I remember years ago, I gained EIGHT POUNDS over a day or two before my period, and then peed it all out. It was awful. So yes, I am definitely among the huge crowd of women who feel your literal pain!
I think part of it is hormonal, but I also theorize that some of us are drawn to salty foods when we're PMS-ing, which also doesn't help in the bloating department...1 -
It happens to me too0
-
So thankful I just found this feed! I'm due for Tom any day now and weighed 5lbs more this morning!! Not cool! I've been seriously peed off all day! You lovely MFP ladies feeling my pain have helped no end!! :-D x0
