Went to a lovely golf end of year brunch. Felt good about my choices and have enough calories left for dinner. However, no exercise again today. Grrrrrr.
Michele - I love your Vit F post. If you have lots of Vit F it makes you 30 years younger, most of us wouldn't qualify for the 50+ group. Even me, who's in the 70's. LOL
Meg - You've got it right. Collin Street Bakery is the best fruitcake. We made them when I was growing up and wrapped them in cheesecloth then poured brandy on them. They sat in a dark plan for a couple of month and were they ever good. Good thing was I didn't need to worry about how many calories are in fruitcake.
DeeDee - love your post about zig/zag on this journey. You definitely have to be flexible and roll with the punches. Enjoy life, everyday is a new beginning.
Cathy - so sorry to read of your siblings struggles with cancer. You have a lot on your plate (not food) right now so take deep breathes an do the best your can with your food choices.
Tomorrow is another day and I have a dinner party for 12 tomorrow night. I think I'm ready but DH dropped a bottle of wine when we were unloading the trunk of the car so I have to go back to the store tomorrow.
BBT for see what my Vit F;s are doing.

Okay...December 11th is as good a time to join as any yes? Christmas is tricky for me--I am old calendar Orthodox so we celebrate on January 7th. I visit folks that celebrate Dec 25th so I seem to be celebrating a lot! Western Christmas, then Eastern Christmas including the 12 days. My goal is to lose 4 pounds (I have been on the pound a week path for several months). I do not want to gain! I will do this by sticking to my normal eating choices and indulging only on the 25th with friends and the 7th at home. I can afford to do that. Indulging will include bread and one desert. But I will look forward to it!

Jolene - sending positive thoughts and prayers your way:flowerforyou:

Finally added a profile picture...this is 6 or 7 years old...my boss gave us a hot air balloon ride as a gift...the kids were rotten teenagers then and even they were awed...I am happy to say I am about 25 lbs lighter now and have let my hair grow..perhaps over Christmas will do a new pic now that I figured out how to do this:wink:

Rode 5+ miles on recumbent bike and 1000k rowing machine this am...good start to the week. Food choices were pretty good too...am adding some cheese and ham strips to my salad to help get me through the afternoon...finishing the day with a cup of tea...one day at a time

Have a nice evening everyone! Hugs and high fives

    Jen
oops guess I forgot to post this last night...the new kitten is very distracting...he likes to walk across my kindle which is a touch screen...so all my screens change...he is very entertaining and a little lovebug

So have a good Tuesday night!

    Hello lovely ladies
Suebdew - I love that quote, and I agree - never, never give up!
Wessecg - I love fruit cake too!
Michele - Thanks for giving a name to why I like this group so much. My regular boost of vitamin F.

To those of you wondering whether now is a good time to start, I would say there is never a good time, but if you don't start you can't reach the end! Lots of luck to you.

I am really late on the board again. Its really cold outside (well, for the UK anyway!!). Freezing fog today, so my golf game was interesting. Thank heavens I can hit the ball fairly straight - most of the time!. Can't putt thought, and I hate temporary greens - grrrr!

Really tired now, so I have caught up with today so I'm off to bed.

elizacarman - welcome to a very supportive bunch of women. Log your food, good or bad. That really does help, and we'll be here every step of the way with you.

Made brownies for Vince, now will make the sugar cookies for Christmas. Have to go to the soup kitchen to make the final donation for the year. Did an hour of a step DVD. Bryan was supposed to call but didn't. Tomorrow yoga and then deep water

Jolene - hope your furnace gets fixed real fast

Amanda - feel better fast! Hope the pain goes away soon for you, even if it does mean going back on the statins

Lin - what is going on with that Wii. It gave me back over a pound, too. The funny thing is, I know that a day-to-day weigh in really isn't very accurate at all. I'm still getting that "that's overweight" message and will until January.

Took my last donation of the year to the soup kitchen, gave them a printout of everything that I've donated with dates quantity and cost. Got my spreadsheet set up for next year. Vince is putting the lights on the tree now, I'm thinking about (operative words) starting to wrap. Thinking right now. When we lived in Stroudsburg, we had a bathroom off the family room downstairs. Every year like clockwork that bathroom always had a problem right after Thanksgiving so I would have to lock the door. And every year suddenly the day after Christmas that bathroom got fixed. It wasn't until we moved to Kennett Square that Bryan said "how could I have been so dumb??" Well, I think what I'm going to do is put the presents that I buy as the year goes by in the downstairs bedroom, I'll close the door to the downstairs so I don't have any feline "help" and can spread things out downstairs to wrap. Yup, sounds like a plan. Now to implement it......

Cathy - I am so so sorry to hear of your bad news. You'll all be in my prayers.

Lin - glad your blurry visiion isn't related to your food. When was your last eye checkup?

Yee gads! Two more weeks until Christmas!!!! Where IS the time going to? Vince is off shooting tonight so I'm making M&M cookies. I still need to make the oatmeal raisin ones and the pie. Oh, just thinking about everything I need to do -- started wrapping the presents today. Looks like it'll probably be just myself who does it. Vince started putting the lights on the tree.

This one gal asked me if I was going to the secret santa reveal lunch. Remember I told you all about the secret santa and how this one gal really wanted the lunch where we reveal to the person who had them for their secret santa? Well, I told her that right now I'm planning to go, but just thinking about everything that needs to be done, I just might wind up skipping it. Not that it's a lot of skin off my back -- hey, if anything I save the money from buying a lunch!!!

pwittig - A size 2!!! I can't remember the last time I was in a size 2 -- maybe it was grade school????

mothernicole - welcome! Any time is a good time to join!

Welcome to anyone else that I may have missed.

Here's hoping everyone has a great evening.

You have no idea how happy I am to have found this group. I was beginning to think that maybe I would just have to do it on my own, but after reading everyone's comments and goals they have set for themselves, it has given me the courage to work on what I have been putting off for too long. I have a long way to go, and its nice to read about others who are in the same boat and those that have accomplished what they have set out to do. Most of all, I love all the positive attitudes!!

I love the idea of setting a monthly goal. Since I'm just starting, my goals will be:

    Log my food daily
Keep within my allotted number of calories
    Drink water
Walk a minimum of 1 mile 5days a week until Jan

:flowerforyou: Finally for the fourth night of Hanukkah I made latkes…..it’s a time consuming process and the days have been overfilled……Jake found a recipe online where the woman said that she grated the potatoes ahead of time and kept them in ice cold water and then made the latkes later…..I tried that and it worked……I rarely eat potatoes except for latkes…..I like mine with applesauce and I don’t cook them in a lot of oil so they’re not too much of a calorie indulgence….we’ll have them again twice during the holiday which I hope will satisfy Jake who waits for them every year.

:flowerforyou: Right now Jake is putting together the new recumbent bike and I am working hard at keeping my mouth shut and not making suggestions or urging him to hurry….I am resigned to not being able to ride it until later tomorrow….i have line dance class in the morning and a date to walk with a friend on the Olympic Discovery Trail after lunch

  You are all part of my family and now I know that you are part of my health plan
    Vitamin F.

    Barbie from NW Washington

    Resolutions for December
    • Have a strategy for each holiday food event
    • Weight training three times a week
    • Act the way I want to feel
    • Don’t expect praise or recognition

I would love to join your group. I turned 51 today! I have two children. My daughter is 21 and my son is 19. I have a wonderful husband who has no problem keeping weight off. I have been gaining and losing the same 10 or 15 pounds for so long. I need to finally get the weight off. I just recently started using a pedometer called a FitBit and I am so addicted to it. I have also made a point of getting back on the scale at least every other day because when I avoid the scale I always gain weight. I need to lose 45 pounds but would love to lose at least 7 pounds by the end of December.

    Goals for December:

Treadmill at least 30 minutes per day
    Track everything I eat!
At least 10,000 steps per day on the FitBit
Get on the scale at least every other day

Like this forum. I'm nearing retirement and want to get fit to enjoy it. I have lost some weight but have a ways to go. I am motivated to lose what I need to and get back in shape and am taking positive steps in that direction. I have changed my eating habits and am now working to exercise - more than just walking my dog! It would be great to hear your strategies.

Last night after logging in my dinner, I closed my diary for the day. I then went to my second job, where there were a whole bunch of chocolate candies out on the counter. The supervisor there is a teeny little woman who is always putting out candy, cookies, etc. and of course I can never resist it when it's just sitting there. Needless to say, by the time I had walked by the counter in and out of the work room ten times, I had eaten ten pieces of chocolate! So, feeling guilty, I stepped on the scale this morning to see how much damage I had done. Imagine my surprise to see myself down a pound since last Saturday :noway: I guess my good eating habits (and no Old Country Buffet on Sunday) really have been making a difference. Now I just need to keep it up!

Well there all got up and got my vitamin F and motivation for the day. Still feeling under the weather but so much to do before Christmas and Santa don't care how sick I am. He won't wait for me to get over this.
So my meat is ready and cooked for the meat pies (tourtieres) if any of you are french. Get those made and at least one batch of cookies what kind I realy don't care.

Deedee I have been on blood pressure medication for at least 20 years.
Metformin 3 weeks so i'm a diabetic in learning.

    Exermom
I go see eye specialist at he eye van every April. Last check up everthing was fine. But I hadn't been diagnosed as a diabetic.
But this blurry vission comes off and on been happening for years but just more when i'm dieting. I believe it's got something to do with the diabetese.

    Liz
Hope your feeling up to finishing your day today. I got some kind of bug but I didn't think could jump through puter. I think it's more from holding a sick little grandbaby.

So out of here for now and need to get my day started.

Good morning, my Vitamin F friends! I love that, Michele – thanks for the idea:flowerforyou: . Also, today I say thank you to JB – you totally made my day with the idea about eating a cup of beans with salsa – so easy and so delicious and nutritious at the same time! I’ve been looking for ways to increase my protein without resorting to animal proteins – perfect:flowerforyou: !

Yesterday was my bio screening with the doctor. After waiting for 45 minutes, she took about five to listen to my heart, gave me my blood work orders and sent me on my way. Oh, well, can’t complain. She was thrilled with the weight loss. Interestingly enough my blood pressure was a little higher than it is normally (mine is normally quite low), but she wasn’t worried about it. I made her take it again because I didn’t believe the first set of numbers, but the second one was just as bad only reversed (the first the systolic was high, the second the diastolic was high – weird!). I am officially down 30 lbs from my last check-up:drinker: . Their scale is about five pounds heavier than my at home scale (minus clothes):blushing: .

Anyway, I had my blood drawn this morning after my workout. I would have done it yesterday, but the appointment wasn’t until noon and I couldn’t go that long without eating lol:laugh: . I fully expect the blood work to show everything normal except !zounds! my vitamin D. The doctors always freak out about how low it is – I have sarcoidosis (burned out), which causes my body to process vitamin D differently. I am paying more attention because of the link between heart function and D but so far my heart’s been super healthy and I still get plenty of sun and dairy and green leafy veggies, so D shouldn’t be an issue on the surface. It’s just a funky test result for me. I did make sure she ordered the secondary D test. I also got half of my daily supply of water in before 8am because of the test :drinker: - otherwise they wouldn't be able to find a vein.

DH and I had such a lovely evening. I made a delicious and simple dish of baked tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach tossed in a little lemon juice and olive oil and fresh basil, then topped it with some flounder and baked it until the fish was done (I eat fish about once/month) – so simple and so good! I was determined to have a healthy meal. Anyway, then we watched my favorite holiday movie, Love Actually, and called it a night. I love that DH is willing to watch “chick flicks” with me, and he loves that I’ll watch “grunge porn,” as we lovingly call movies like Old School and 40-Year-Old Virgin, with him. A match made in heaven, I guess lol.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day. I did Kenpo this morning and have a slot free so I can go for a walk this afternoon – yay! It’s clear but really cold out finally. I’ll just bundle up, and off I go. Get out and move, and drink your water too!

    Cheers!

    M.

    :flowerforyou: Thankful that it's Wednesday,

Lila & Meg- you'd think that the fashion industry would realize that there are a whole lot of baby boomers that would like to have nice age appropriate clothing....we can hope that some day they will figure it out:huh:

Glenda- hoping you do make it to the gym...I'm sure that if you go you will be spouting it's great effects from a good workout:drinker:

Cathy-so good to see you back. Wow you have had a lot going on. Just moving is a major change:flowerforyou: Prayers and hugs to you and your family for all those with health issues:heart:

Linda-hoping that they find out why you are having blurred vision, that can really be frustrating:flowerforyou:

jjdig- yep sleepwalking could be the thing to keep us all in shape:wink:

DeeDee- truly it's the water that makes this weight seem to come off for me...well that and Salmon:wink:

Jane- don't you just hate when your hubby shares something like that:grumble: hope you are feeling better soon.:flowerforyou:

sueb-another dinner for 12:noway: that's sure to keep you busy:flowerforyou:

jen-your new kitty sounds like his name should be mischief:wink:

    Annie-golfing in the cold and fog:huh: I can't imagine...I'm sure it's good exercise.

Liz-sorry to hear you have been sick, hoping today is a better day:flowerforyou:

Barbie- how good you are to keep quiet and not offer help to Jake in putting the bike together:wink: I'm forever stating the obvious to my hubby and his new thing is to tell me "don't go there don't even think of saying it" as i just keep on doing it...maybe that will be something I can work on next year:ohwell:

Linda-O that is not the kind of things you want your Lab to be getting into. I guess I'm pretty fortunate that Peanut doesn't seem to like chocolate as we do have it in places all over the house but he doesn't touch it:happy:

Pat-it's always a pleasant surprise when we know we have over indulged and the scale gives us positive results instead of spanking us with a gain:drinker: Congrats on that loss.

LinC-you are right Santa won't be waiting for us to be well if we are sick:flowerforyou:

M-yep it sounds like you and your hubby are made for each other:flowerforyou: Just last night we were talking about the same thing and I said "where could I get a replacement for you that loves to read and let me read too and not talk"...yep made for each other:wink:

:flowerforyou: Welcome to all the newbies, come back often and let us get to know you:flowerforyou:

    ****
This morning the scale gave me another loss so I have plenty of Holiday room and will not be stressing the meals and will be able to enjoy some of the wine and spirits that seem to abound during this season. Since I finished the 30 DS I have been on the bike & the elliptical and I am starting to notice a change in my legs (those short stubby things I stand on) and finally the "fat pockets" over my knees are slowly going away:blushing: So Gotta keep up the exercise.

Everyone have a good day if you eat it log it, drink plenty of water it can make the difference in your weight loss:drinker: and keep your body moving.

    Good morning Decembers,

There is a touch of snow on the ground, but I have felt “grounded” by the whack of marking I had to accomplish before the final exam this week…..so my butt was stuck to the chair, and wow, I feel it. Sore back, uncooperative metabolism…

    Last night was a NSV! A small group of friends wanted to eat at a pizza place;
I chose a tomato soup and undressed chicken Caesar, so it went fine…
Not great quality food, but great quality friends! Lots of Vitamin F, which is just what my doctor ordered!

Today I have to start to finish a major project before I can mark the finals….
More butt stuck….but I try to fit stretching in, and follow Barbie’s rule to move in any situation you can!

Meg - Champagne! Yes! Always! Had some last Friday for breakfast! my Christmas breakfast has also included strata, Scottish oat cakes, fancy jams; also a fantastic upside down crème brule French Toast that is about 3 inches deep from Gourmet – the family lobby for it. But this year I am not so sure, my husband’s first wife has serious heart valve issues, (although I don’t really know if she has cholesterol or any other issues) so I am wondering what she thinks will be good for her; DH, DS, and DD#3 will just have to go along with whatever it will be! We want her to be healthy for the day, and she suffers from exhaustion due to poor pumping of the heart.
    Any food suggestions?

Jolene – we are all praying and pulling for you today.

M- Wheatcraft, I loved loved your thought about filling up your life and then filling up your food needs, I have copied it and put it in my thoughts drawer that I pull out and look at now and again to keep the faith in myself.
And I do plan out my meals first every day, and then revise. The plan helps me remember there is a long term plan and process at work, even if I have to revise it in the evening…I “forget” about those little treats between meals if I don’t have to be accountable to my plan…

JB- I also use black beans…we have a special brand here with low salt – blue menu PC- the Canucks will know it. I add a wee bit of chicken, lots of tomato, zucchini, pepper into a spiced butternut or sweet potato soup base (Imagine, organic) and micro for quick lunch – so tasty, DH has chosen it over his regular sandwich and DS has asked for it for dinner…..I change up the spices, sometimes Indian, sometimes hot chilies, sometimes Lebanese….. They eat up the veg, and whew, my moral job is done!

Deborahx- OA is good for the soul, but sometimes it is hard to find true success in those meetings….this thread is like going to a meeting…and it focuses on your growth and health! Join in often! It is that time where every friend occasion will have some challenges, but plan around, under and over them!

Linda-Sundance, I laughed about your doggie’s eating disorder I hope you list him on that dog shame website, so everyone can share that! My friend had to put her lab in a kennel for a few days just to be free of his “antics” while she was marking….

So many good things to read here! Welcome to all the newcomers!

Off to the wonderful world of words!

    Cheers, BJ
