I HATE eating out. Not only am I ALWAYS disappointed with the quality (my standards in food have skyrocketed since I started eating a lot cleaner) but I always get bad stomach and gut problems immediately-3 hours after I eat it. Not to mention feeling sluggish, bloated and irritable. And I'm like, "I actually spent MONEY to do that to myself?? Ugh, never again!". And I don't for a few months, until I forget how bad it was last time and I need to give myself a refresher course.
I felt that way in Vegas!0 -

I eat at home, and go out for drinks. I'm tired of being disappointed by crappy, expensive restaurants. I live in a touristy area, and there are lots of "nice" places to eat, but the food doesn't match the decor.0

Nope. It's not hard to estimate most "standard" meals... sauces and things can make it hard, but most restaurants have nutrition information either on their website or upon request. If I know it's going to be a big meal, I may save some extra cals for it, get in a bigger workout that day, or just say the hell with it.
If I'm not enjoying myself when I eat, what's the point? Mental health is just as important as physical health... I'm not going to drive myself crazy over analyzing every single calorie.
Additionally... it's 1 meal. If you are focused on long term steady progress (like you should be), 1 meal isn't going to make a difference.

I generally shop the nutritional information online first when I know i am going to go out and try to substitute extra veggies for mashed potatoes or fries. That always helps.:)0

so true. in the past, having a healthy relationship with food when I've begun dieting or changing my foods has killed me. You eat something bad once and you pound yourself for it. Now, especially with the holidays, I've just decided what meals I'm going to allow myself to cheat on, and I know this isn't a race, so being able to enjoy myself once in a while is healthy.
For the restaurant part, as long as you are choosing something healthy and then instituting some portion control at the table, I don't think there is anything wrong with sporadic eating out.0 -

but in all seriousness, if you stick with things that aren't fried, breaded, or sauced you can do pretty good.
Grilled is a good option usually, and in some italian restaurants you can actually get whole wheat pasta now, just have to ask.

I like to eat out, but we (wife and I) limit ourselves to two dinners out a month. Now we go out for a cup of java now and then or to a cool, vibey place to listent to music and chat...difficult to eat healthy at most restaurants here...but we have a few that will cook to our spec.0

I eat out frequently...sometimes 2 or 3 times a week....I have been having food allergy/sensitivities...maybe Celiac, and I feel much better when I go out to eat at my fave corner restaurant...I feel energized, so I keep going back....plus, I hate doing dishes and cleaning up, I'm lazy
plus, everyone that goes with me can pick whatever they want, instead of being stuck with whatever I make...0
