What happened to the Bicep curl???

Completely understand this. If I was lifting 3 days a week I would barley be doing any isolation exercises, but fact is I have nothing better to do so find my self at the gym 5 days a week so find myself working different body parts everyday.0

I curled today. I still have a weak grip and wrists. So I prefer that crooked bar instead of straight. It helps me get my bicep work in without my forearms screaming at me. 40 lbs, 4 sets. Does this get me in with the cool crowd at all?0

I do bicep curls sometimes. Rarely with a barbell. 65 lbs for a set of 12 last time I did. I usually go for hammer curls. I do chin ups and pull ups, so my biceps do get worked.0

I've noticed this time of year that there are a lot of larger ladies deadlifting and doing squats. I think they mistakenly believe these exercises are the key to fat loss...I'm not sure where this myth was started, but I can't just be MFP.0 -

The disdain for doing anything besides the big 3 and "assist lifts" on this site kills me. Most people here have been lifting for about a day and a half but look down their noses at anything that's not recommended in SS/SL or NROL. Will somebody please tell me when having good looking arms went out of style?

I don't curl regularly but I do enjoy it and do use it as an accessory every other week or so on average. I've been doing more hammer curls with DB's but when I bb curl on heavy sets, using an oly bar I can get ~7-8 with 105lbs total, and standing with an ez curl bar I can get 7-8 reps with plates, I think that's 105-110 with most curl bars.0

Every year around Christmas, all of the noobs...(especially women)...rush to the gym to do deadlifts and squats. It's an epidemic of compound movements.

I don't pay much attention to the weight on the bar these days, and certainly don't take exercises like this down to singles..........but i routinely do BB curls with 85 for sets of 10+. occasionally i will go up to 105 for the same rep numbers, but slightly more sloppily..........its ok to cheat when you curl.............towards the end of a set anyway........0

Every word of what you guys are saying is true, but not ALL exercises have to be done for metabolic impact, do they? And what if I'm not trying to "maintain mass while losing weight"? What if someone is just trying to actually gain mass? Why is old fashioned hypertrophy frowned upon?
To answer Cris' question, the curling action works the curlin' muscles. Whatever the peer reviewed studies might say, if you do direct, isolated bicep work, your arms gonna get big. Whether we think bigger arms are something to strive for or not, we can at least agree that doing curls will make them bigger, can't we?0 -

I always see people post there 1RM for Squats, Dead lifts, and Bench press. But what is everyone curling with a straight bar? I don't want to know a 1RM I mean what are you curling for at least 6 reps???? ( without swinging your back and looking like a a**hole!)

Actually did some yesterday. 75x8. I'm way behind apparently. No wonder my arms are little.
Was thinking of adding in a set here and there for hypertrophy now that I'm transitioning towards a calorie surplus.

OK, bash is too loaded a word. How about, "strongly recommend against"? Would that be fair? You are one of the most fit people on the site and have an incredibly large following (deservedly so) so even if you saying something like "it doesn't align with my goals" it carries a lot of weight and lands as powerfully as if you said "Don't anyone do these, ever".
Also, to be fair, I AM unfairly directing question towards you and Cris even though neither of you may be guilty of what I'm accusing. But I really want your takes on it precisely because I do respect your opinions and find your arguments both intelligent and well reasoned. I like what the she bro said. There is not many bbers in this part of the MFP section....but Compound + Isolation strength exercises = Great symmetry!
