I have a BAD habit....I get this feeling of wanting a snack in the evening after 6ish. I eat a balance dinner and throughout the day I manage what I eat. What can I do to help to control this?

Willpower. Or always choose a healthy snack. Carrot sticks or some type of veggie.0 -
What time are you going to bed?0

Sew your lips shut. o.k. - not funny, but the only way I know to stop is STOP.
Most of us have some bad habit we are fighting. My worst hours are from about 2-4 PM. It helps if I can get away from the kitchen and get busy, but most of the time I'm stuck right here, 10 steps from the kitchen, doing my transcription job.0 -
Take a photo of yourself half naked and place it on the place where you snacks are.0

why cant you eat after 6?0

What's wrong with eating after 6? I hate going to bed hungry. It doesn't matter when you eat as long as you stick to your calorie goal. The whole "eating right before bed is bad thing" is a myth.0

Just make it a healthy snack!0

I dont think you need to stop snacking after 6..if you are hungry then eat...allow yourself extra calories at the end of the day for that night time snack...many evening i have a 100 calorie bag of popcorn and an orange or apple and i still consistently lose weight...just keep it within your daily calorie goal:)0

drinking water may help also. eating after 6 is just fine.0

Brush your teeth. Everything tastes like *kitten* afterwards.0

its not a myth if you eat crap before bed.0 -

This. Meal timing is irrelevant. Calories matter.0 -
Brush your teeth. Or go to sleep.0

Healthy snacks only in the house. Or willpower.0

Exactly what I do :-) . I find it such a waste to eat again after ive brushed my teeth.0 -

Don't keep foods in your house that you could potentially eat too much of. The only things I have in my kitchen that don't have to be cooked prior to eating are vegetables, Greek yogurt, and blueberries. I am not likely to binge on any of those things.0

I know what you mean - even if I'm not at all hungry after dinner, I'll still wanna snack. I usually make sure I have a few cals left over so I can have a little something. And otherwise I just stick to low cal snacks, like celery and carrot sticks. And drink bucket loads of tea. Haha.
&& for the comments about meal timing being irrelevant, for me, it has nothing to do with meal timing. If I was actually hungry I would have no problem eating a whole meal at midnight. The thing is, I'm not hungry, just got that insatiable snacky feel - drives me up the wall! haha.0 -
It's not a myth. Calories are energy. If you provide your body with energy you body needs to use that energy to burn it off.
If you eat before you go to bed without exercising, then that energy isn't utilised.
Good snacks for the evening are clear chicken soups / broths.0 -
Why would you stop after 6pm? I usually have dinner around 7 or 8 pm and most of the time eat something around 10 or 11 pm right before going to bed.0
-
Save some calories for your snack after 6? I have my dinner and a pudding but I save my pudding until later0
-
Drinking more water maybe? Also, eat fruit. I like oranges at night!0
-
Work it in as part of your calorie goal for the day. Make it easy to make a healthy choice (don't keep junk in the house). I almost always eat after dinner. I even get up in the middle of the night and eat chocolate. I sleep better.0

I eat right up until I go to bed and many nights that includes a bowl of ice cream. It hasn't changed anything for me at all. I having been maintaining for over a year0
-
exercise in the evening... it works for me. Feel like i've wasted my time if I just eat the calories after I've burned them off...0
-
Your body doesn't know what time it is, so time is not relevant.
Plan your meals/snacks the day before so you stay within your calorie goal and you will be fine.
Good luck!0 -
Drinks lots of decaf tea, water, could even put some pure lemon juice in (zero cal), and pamper yourself with bath/shower, do your nails, tweeze eyebrows, face mask, anything you like to feel good, and go to bed earlier and wake up earlier!
Good luck, or more aptly, good choices!

I agree that eating after 6 is perfectly fine as long as you're within your calorie limits. If you find yourself running out of calories, you could try doing a cardio activity during this time and have a sensible, light snack afterwards. I love black bean hummus with carrots or celery.0

^^^ yup, exactly what I do. Popcorn or fruit (or sometimes an individual Skinny Cow ice cream or Ben & Jerry's frozen yogurt) and a couple of glasses of water at night keep me full and not starving... I go to bed late, midnight, usually, so if I didn't eat after 6 I'd be starving and miserable all night.0
