Why are people on the internet...
...so rude an obnoxious?
Everywhere I go, I see the flaming and hate, why is it so prevalent on the internet?
Most of the things you see and read are mindblowing in terms of the bitterness and hate, and vicious bile that comes from peoples finger tips.
Why don't people hold back at all?

Because it's basically anonymous and they feel like they can.0

ditto what hbrittingham said. people lash out because their lives are less than stellar (jealousy probably) and they do not think they will be held accountable... My mother always said if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. Karma is a b* and I believe it will come back on them ten fold.0

It's easy to be a tough guy or an obnoxious bish on the net. They can't get the sh1t slapped out of them online.0

I'm not referring to me alone... everywhere!0
-
because they are hiding behind the computer screen.0

I think people feel safer doing things anonymously. Plus, society in general is just ruder. Have you SEEN the crap that passes for entertainment these days?
People should care for one another, but we no longer seem to be teaching them how to.0 -

Because "I" can say snarky, rude and offensive things to your muscly avatar, and if "you" punch me in my scrawny avatar, "your" fist will hurt and "your" computer might break. "I" won't feel a thing.
In real life, I'm pretty sure I'd be as nice as anything to you because your real fist would hurt my real scrawny. And I'm a lot more insecure in real life.
(I say "I" and "you" purely rhetorically, and not meaning you and me, of course. I don't like it when I find myself being snarky on the net. For me, it's a good reason to step away.)0 -

because people are meanies
especially you! Breaking hearts and all.0 -
Because a lot of people are lonely and bitter and the only interaction that they have with others is through the internet; therefore, they use the opportunity to pour all those feeling toward the “world” in general with rude comments. They can’t help it, what’s in the heart is what will come out of their mouths… (or fingers).0

Because they have no personal connection to the people they are unleashing on. You can tolerate someone's idiosyncrasies much better if you have some type of relationship. Strangers on the internet ehhh not so much. So when someone is being stupid you tend to have a lower level of acceptance and endurance for the behavior, and call them out on it.0

It really make you wonder what kind of person they are in real life! Are they really that way, deep down?0

People are rude everywhere. I hardly notice it on the internet.0

a reaction to the crazy amount of whinging that goes on out there. there are people getting upset about every little thing that is said.
If you know you are going to offend someone anyways, might as well make it fun :-)0 -

Awww, you need some tissue, little fella?

I don't think people are more rude on the internet than they are in person. Work in a customer service field for a while, you'll quickly realize people in general are mean, selfish, and stupid.0

Because it's better than punching a real person in the face?0

That's funny, that's similar to how I feel. I often wonder, "Why are people so ignorant and stupid on the internet?" and then I look away from my computer screen and realize, nope, they're stupid and ignorant everywhere; I'm just exposed to more on the INTERNET SUPER HIGHWAY.0

Im a lot nicer on the internet than in real life...
Offline im very sarcastic and grumpy and mean... Im that mean people actually think im joking sometimes.
