Any chubbies at your gym?

I'm one of the chubbies at my gym. From what I've seen the year I've been going is everybody getting there workout on and too busy to worry about anybody else. We're all there for the same reason and most of the trim ones didnt start off that way.0

The gym I go to has a mix of all sorts of people...young, older, heavy, fit...You've got to think we're all there for the same reason - for OUR health. Yeah, you see people there staring every now and then, but for the most part no one really cares cuz they're busy doing their own thing. You just need to tune it out...headphones work for me. And if I catch someone staring, I just smile at them and keep doing what I'm doing...0

My partner is 44 and 270 pounds. We go to the gym together. I enjoy it when he is there. He looks damn sexy when he lifts weights and he is a great spotter.0

yep, that is me:) but now after going for 9 months of the gym I am down 65. So still chubby but less than I was! AND that is b/c I use weights @ the gym! now get in there and crush all your goals!!!0

I was like that the first day I went to the Y - it was overwhelming that first day but I ran around the track and hit up the treadmill. This week, I slowly started lifting around other people and going on the weight machines. I don't consider myself chubby (but rather with the potential to tone) anyway, there are people there of all ages, sizes.. I don't think anyone is really judging cause we are all there doing something about our health. I think the only time I pay attention is when a hot guy walks in the room or is all sweaty on the stationary bike  but even then I don't stare.0

I feel a little insecure each day when I walk into the gym but by the time I am done I feel one step closer to my goals. We just have to keep on keeping on.0

I was by far the chubbiest person at my gym when I joined. No, let me be honest, I was the fattest. And I was by far the fattest person walking in my neighborhood and on the nearby trail.
If I'd let that stop me I wouldn't now be one of those skinny-ish people I used to glare at resentfully for running all over the treadmill and the street without jiggling and gasping and turning alarming shades of red. :bigsmile:0 -
Honestly, whenever I see people who are bigger at the gym, it makes me so happy. I give them SO much credit for trying to change their life around. If anything, people will look up to you rather than down on you.0

Put your big girl panties on, go in and get your sweat on. It won't hurt and it's not scary. Promise.0

NOW that i'm married and have an adult daughter, I have enrolled us all at the nearest gym. "I" am the fatty there.
We love going and exercising together!
Don't worry about what others think~ take care of you and do it while holding your head up high! :happy:0 -
Ahh hell...bust through the front doors and be all "Yeah what of it?! I'm here to work out!" and go on with your bad self.
For real. OR....are there different times you can go? I'm not a huge fan of going in the evening because there are a ton of youngins there...they don't make me self conscience but they do take up a heck of a lot of machines lol. Try going before work.
Just be confident and know you're doing what you need to do. I'm def a chubster and I walked into the gym tonight with a Spartan Race tshirt on....back says "I'm training for a Spartan Race" and I got so many looks...I'm sure there may have been a few thinking "yeah right" but there were many that thought just the opposite....but the best thing was...the dude lifting who stopped me as I walked by to say "Great shirt...good luck". Most of them respect hard work and dedication, no matter what your size is at the moment.0 -
I *PROMISE* that the gym has seem something weirder than u... I workout at the college and most ppl are athletic in there, I don't fit in.. however there is one guy who sings at the top of his lungs on the elliptical... nobody says anything
This was me in college, I was in a musical with the theatre department and needed the stamina to sing and workout at the same time!0 -
One of the trainers at my gym is kinda "chubby". I'm sure he's strong too, though! Other people that work at the gym are kinda chubby as well. Plenty of other overweight people there also. Maybe they feel self conscious, but so do I when I'm at the gym. I think everyone does. Personally I try to never judge people, and when I do it's because of something (stupid) they are doing, not because they are making a good decision to go to the gym to work out and get healthy. Now, get your behind to the gym!! No more excuses!0

No need to fear it, 80% at the gym are obese and trying to fix it.0

Totally know how that feels, Aspen seems to be for 30 somethings who run marathons every weekend...
I had to kick myself hard to get over this. Every time I caught myself worrying about how someone thinks of me, how intimidated I was, I gave myself a mental kick in the *kitten*, and refocused on me. The only thing I worry about is if I'm going to be on the floor doing push ups or something, is if I'm going to block traffic around me.
Though I will say, there are a handful of seniors--IE 50-60+ yrs old--who wipe the floor with every younger person there, and are I definitely admire the *kitten*-whoopings they give! They are fat, lean, runners and bulkers who simply work hard, and are dripping sweat by the time they finish.0 -
I would say the average member at my gym is slightly overweight and around 40 years old. We have everyone from college aged skinny cardio bunnies, to super jocks to 70+ year olds, and 300+ pound people.0

There are all sorts of people at my gym! Thin or "skinny fat" girls that just hang out and talk while walking on the treadmill, "chubbies" as you say working they're butt off on the ellipticals (I high five some! Love those people) an elderly Indian woman who insists on wearing a Sari while on the treadmill, Beefheads who are not actually doing anything but taking mirror pics and photos of each other, and then people like me! Covered in sweat, not so cute anymore, working my butt off!
To be honest, I am there a lot so I see tons of people, i love em all haha! But realistically no one there care's if you're there or what you're doing. They are all there for their own specific reasons just like you! so go!0
