Polar Ft4 HRM

I've had the pink FT4 since about October 2012 and I love it. I have noticed that the strap tends to stretch out a little over time which leads to problems with the watch part picking up my heart rate. Also when the strap gets stretched out, it winds up twisting and bunching up around my bra and then it doesn't work. Sometimes I'll be in the middle of a run and my heart rate will immediately drop from the mid-150s down to 0 and I'll have to take the whole thing off, splash it with my water bottle, tighten the strap, put it back on, and reset the watch. It's kind of upsetting because then I don't have an accurate measurement of my heart rate, calories burned, etc, but other than that, I love it. It worked really well the first couple of months and only recently have I experienced problems with the strap.0

I have the pink one as well. Mine shows about half the calories that MFP was estimating and about 2/3 of the calories on the elliptical so I was gettting credit for a LOT more calories than i was actually burning. Started losing a little more too.0

I also have the Polar FT4 in pink and absolutely love it. Very easy to use and been using it for about 8 months and haven't had any issues with it.0

I have just got a polar FT4 in the last few weeks and it's great. I use it for running and swimming in the pool too. It's fine as long as you don't press the buttons underwater. The reason you have to send it ack to get the battery changed is to guarantee the water resistance, if you change it yourself, it probably wouldn't be water resistant anymore. Not a problem unless you use it for swimming like I do. The difference in actual calorie burn (measured with my hrm) and MFP values is unreal. Measured burn for 60mins swimming laps was 471, mfp would have given me 532 (moderate intensity) and over 700 for fast!0

I'm dying for an FT4, and have heard little else but praise for it.0

..also TOTALLY getting it in pink! Haha!0

It depends on which one you get. This one, you can change it yourself. Are Polar HRMs the ones that you have to send in to get the battery replaced? i've been reading a lot of reviews while trying to decide which one is best, and this seems to be the major downside with this brand. i guess as long as the battery lasts long enough it wouldn't be so annoying, but still.0

I just received my ft4 a few days ago and I still haven't checked it out yet. I purchased mine from sears.com and it was on sale for $40.49. It came with the chest strap as well. I can't wait to use it.0

can you set it so the alarm doesn't beep when your heart rate gets too low/high?0

You can change it yourself and if you order the battery from Polar it comes with a replacement O ring to seal if from water as well.0 -
I just ordered mine on Amazon.ca! Can't wait to test it out
Edit to add I got the pink one too!0 -
I've had my FT4 for about a year and half and the battery died earlier this and replaced it and it worked fine. Then my dog got a hold of my strap and chewed it up so I had to replace the strap. Once everything was replaced, the battery was dead even though I hadn't used it over 3 months. I replaced the battery again and used it, worked it great and then after 2 days the battery was dead again. So I replaced it again and the same thing happened. Anybody ever experience anything like this? Thinking the only alternative is to send it in.0

I have the same one...this is random: although I love it, I lost my instructions. Does anyone know how to turn of that tiny Beep sound it makes?0

Definitely love this hrm! I'm so glad I can calculate what is near real! That is why I am awed by people who burn over a K in calories. It takes alot of work to reach that level! Of course I'm getting older now and this keeps me from blowing my heart up or stressing it for too long.0
