What's the worst part of your job?

Getting up at 3:30 am to beat the traffic...other than that, I love my job
Lord how far is your commute?
My commute is only 27 miles but if I worked the normal 9-5, it would probably take me 2 hours to get to work...I start work at 6:00 am...usually get here around 5:45
You sound like you live in Northern Virginia. When I lived 12 miles outside of DC it would take me 1.5 hours on average to get to work. Most of my coworkers get up at 3:30 like you do. I moved into the city and walk to work now, and life is so much better.
I live in Southern Maryland and work in DC...it took me 1 1/2 hours to get home yesterday...ugggghhhh...I couldn't live in the city though...I love being on 3 acres with trees0 -
Being responsible for millions of dollars. Yet, I can't spend any of it on myself... :-p0

Being in this job.
The program isn't bad, but I'm tired of the work I do.0 -
My commute - 2 hours each way. :explode: I live in RI and work in Boston.0

I'm a host at a restaurant. I like it for the most part. I do hate that we're open til midnight and sometimes I'm stuck there forever because people keep slowly trickling in. I generally get to go home when we're down to five tables or so, which is usually around 9 or 10 but I've stayed past midnight because there will be like 10 tables, one finally leaves and another comes in, so it's slow and boring but I can't go home yet.
I also train horses and I guess the hardest part is dealing with unrealistic expectations. Like "omg, you HAVE to make me and my POS that's been sitting in pasture until last week win at the big show next month!" and then when you can't do it they go to the trainer that beats or drugs the horses to make it happen0 -
The death - but especially the death where a sheep has taken itself off into some bushes or whatever to die, specifically so I wont notice it for days and when I do its stinking corpse fouls up my landrover for days when I cart it off to the hunt kennels.0

The fact it doesn't exist.0

the worst part of about my job is having to deal day in and out with people that "want" to work, but when you call them to go to work, they have every reason why they can't.
Same here, it's incredibly frustrating! The worst is when they (they being specified on-call employees) give you their general availability, and not only do you call during those times, but neither do they answer, or even call you back! Even if it's just to decline.
It makes no sense: They were hired *specifically* to be on-call, they give availability (which isn't black and white, obviously there are going to be some times where they have to decline for whatever reason), and they won't even answer their phone or call back during those times!0 -
having to be nice to **** faculty just because they have PhDs and NIH grants.0

At my previous job I have been spit on, puked on, bled on, pissed on, been punched, had poop thrown at me, cussed at routinely, and even had a guy jerk off in front of me for 6 straight hours (never did figure out if he just had amazing staying power or if he had help from Viagra). God I miss that job. :bigsmile:0

The worst part of my job is that it's lonely. I work from home.0

cleaning up after grown *kitten* people! I am an office manager and apparently its an unspoken part of my job description to put everyone else's dishes in the DISHWASHER. Also, sitting for 8 hours a day. Its so frustrating because I have the most energy between 10 and 3 and thats when I want to work out and be productive but I'm stuck at work. Also, dealing with stupid people on the phone. But other than that I really really love my job0

I hate our small lunch room, especially when people eat and then lounge at the table, forcing some of us to eat at our desks. Nothing ruins my day more than eating at my desk!0
-
Doing the work for people that don't carry their own weight. And conducting hearings.0

If I were you, I would be fuming daily!!! I think it is totally unacceptable for adults to use dishes or cups at work and not wash them..... Like why would someone else wash your dishes at work, who the hell do these people think they are?? And who do they think you are the maid!!! I believe people should treat the kitchen at work like their kitchen at home and clean up after themselves!!!
Edited for spelling0 -
I actually really love my job. Is that such a rarity?0

Waiting for work to do I miss having a constant and usually overwhelming stream of work.0

cleaning the bathrooms0

Supervising employees. Pretty much, by and large, it seems that people are really lazy and don't want to do their jobs...show up late...call in all the time...cry and whine about petty bull ****, etc. I have a lot to do, but I swear I spend about 90% of my time dealing with crappy employees.
Otherwise, it's pretty nice. I pretty much have to be online all day long, so I always keep an MFP window open0 -
When the hogs get out0

I am very new at my current job, so I'm enjoying what I'm doing, but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by how much I need to learn. I'd love to be a midwife rather than a desk jockey, but I can't afford to give up working and go back to university for three years to do the degree course.0

Downtime. Hate hate hate downtime. I'd rather be slammed with work.
This!!!! I find I am easily distracted (as noted by the fact Im answering this while at work) if there isnt enough work in my office to hold my attention.0 -
That I have to talk to a lot of inept people. That I am so efficient I am counted on to do about 50 things, when I'm only paid for one.
I feel the EXACT same way. Why can everyone else get away with being so...ignorant? There's no accountability or consequenses for 90% of the people around here, but when it comes to my boss and I, everything better be PERFECT! I literally feel ill driving to work everyday lately...0 -
The environment. It's open space and sometimes I'd like a little more privacy.0

I have a frigging GREAT job, nearly everything about it--except I spend hours and hours in front of a computer monitor, which, due to worsening posture from it, resulted in knots in my back/shoulders and reduced range of motion for my neck. Now it's taking me a personal trainer and massage therapist to start getting rid of the knots. The range of motion has improved tremendously, pain is much better, but I spend the day in front of the screen telling myself, "Keep your shoulders down and back."
But seriously, I am blessed to have this job.0 -
My least favorite thing about my job is that I feel underutilized, it just sucks when you know you're not being who you can be, I feel capable of so much more! But I have a job, so I'm happy. I feel bad for those who cannot find one, I know it's hard!0

Dealing with people (customers). It's amazing what someone just expects you to do for them no questions asked. Or, when they are really upset and expect you to change the world for them. If you are nice to me, I can do lots, if you are rude, you can leave.0

Haha, I knew it had to be the DC suburbs. Traffic makes me insane, and I actually prefer my teeny tiny city house to a big one, so I'm very happy with the city lifestyle. But I grew up on 3 acres and I do agree that it's nice!0 -
The worst part of my job is I am alienated because I eat healthy and try to get fit. Most of the ladies here eat what they want and have a bit of an weight issue. I don't talk to them about fitness, I just don't eat what they offer, cake, cookies, etc... then I state I am trying to work on my fitness goals. I can't just eat a little, I am gonna keep going back for more.0
