Flesh Eating Soup

I've been having this for over 6 months now for lunch 9 times out of ten and think I have just perfected it today!

1kg bag of carrots chopped
1 full celery (stalks and leaves) chopped
2 medium onions (finely chopped)
4 x 400G tins of chopped tomatoes
1 x 700g Bottle of Tomato Passatta (Cooking tomato sauce, sieved tomato puree...)
2 cups of chicken stock
1 cup of white wine
Mixed Herbs to Taste
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Tablespoon Oil to cook the onions.
Top with water

--
Cook onions and garlic in the oil.
Put in everything else
Bring to boil for 20 minutes
Simmer for 3-4 hours.
--

Serve with a diced spring onion stirred in.

--

Eat for lunch or dinner, lose weight.

I call it my flesh eating soup, and with the latest refinements of the white wine and spring onion it is fantastic! And I should know I've eaten enough of it!

For a treat add in any left-over meat or some ham or pork. Luxury!!!

Don't forget about adding the chopped spring onion when you serve.

Bon Appétit!

I can't call having some meat in a soup a treat!

Do you have anything else with it? That is no way going to fill me up for long!

Any idea on calories? Sounds a bit cabbage soup diet to me....

    Hi,

With regard to the calories, well, I've been using the entry for "Kickstart Diet Soup" because I think it was based on this, but the basic idea has been floating around the house for years so I'm not entirely sure.

This version is 150 calories for 2 cups, and that sounds about right - it is an insanely low calorie meal, the idea is to each as much of it as you can.

It is regarded as a 'filler' meal but I have tweaked the recipe enough that it is actually delicious (maybe I have just been eating it for too long :-)))

Basically you have this for lunch and you save a bunch of calories for snacks and dinner, and if your serious about even trying to eat somewhere near 1200 this meal goes a long way to achieving that.

Currently using a cask wine, Banrock Station, Chardonay. I've tried using red-wine but I found that too overpowering.

    Cheers,
    James

Although I will say that after cutting up a kilo of carrots and a whole celery you will know all about it :-)

Why are you eating 1200 a day? The lower end for men is 1600, and even then, that is low for most. There are plenty of short girls on here eating around 2000 a day.

I will have a look at the thread, thanks.

For me 1200 is a goal, not a rule... some days I will eat 1200 but a lot of the time I am over 1200.

Either way this soup has helped me lose 30 kg and it has been easy time.

    Cheers,
    James

What's the sodium on that, with canned tomatoes and such?

I'd have to leave them out, anyway, due to food sensitivities in the family.

This would work as a quick lunch at my job ...... or an appetizer before dinner ........ I make ratatouille a lot (basically eggplant, zucchini, onion, tomato sauce) ...... this would be a nice change.

    Thanks for sharing :drinker:

Ratatouille is the best! I feel so guilty even having meat with it at times its so nice! Although you can get away with having a 100-200g steak with rat' and feel totally contented!

For my ratatouille I also add in mushrooms and white wine...

A batch seems to last me about 2 weeks, but one of the point of this soup is to have as much as you like. Maybe it lasts me about 12 lunches?

The basic recipe was a little astringent with the celery but the wine and onions really smooth the flavour and the smell.

Alternatively maybe I'm just used to it now :-)
