Spaghetti squash= shredded yuck

I tried. I couldn't get past the texture. My husband covered it in marinara and hot sauce and ate it while I cooked pasta. Can anyone give me a recipe that makes this a palatable food?

I like it...so probably cant really help. Just don't expect it to be pasta...it isn't. Its a tasty thing of its own. We like it with a light Alfredo sauce and grilled chicken.0

I am working on incorporating it into my diet as well. Tonight I had spaghetti squash, prego mushroom pasta sauce, ricotta chz, parm. chz, portabella mushrooms and onions. I had a rotisserie chicken that I cut up one of the breast and I sauteed all of that together with fresh garlic. I think the chunks of meat and veggies helped with the texture for me. This is the only thing I've tried with it so far and I love it! Best of luck!0

I can't for the life of me get squash to taste good! I tried different recipes but they all tasted yuck!0

I love it with pesto and parm cheese add lots of herbs and try with turkey meatballs0

The only thing I could recommend is for you to cook it longer. My experience has been that as long as it's soft, I can easily pretend it's real pasta! And this is coming from someone who adores authentic Italian cuisine. Also getting a really great tasting sauce is essential, because the squash in and of itself doesn't taste much.

1 whole spaghetti squash, slice lengthwise.. Place squash in trash container and eat food you like.0

I mix it with regular pasta to bulk up the serving size. I also toss it with olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese and oregano.0

Honestly, even IF spaghetti squash tasted bad ... the calories you save is SO worth it! I wish everyone here bashing poor Mr Squash would realize that! :P0

I can only eat it if it's not cooked to death. I cook it it to al dente, just like pasta, and add some good quality olive oil and salt...it definitely takes care of a pasta craving.0

I can't confuse it with pasta -- they are two different things. I did try it with pasta sauce, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And I have mixed it in as an extender for pasta. My husband liked it with pasta, margarine, and Parmesan. However, I like it best as a squash side dish, with just butter and grated nutmeg on top.0

I can eat it as a side with some garlic, olive oil, and parm. But agreed its disgusting as "spaghetti".0

I just ate a large bowl of it, carbonara style, for lunch.
I'm in NZ & it's VERY hard to get - I am so jealous that you guys seem to have an endless supply in the USA. If I lived over there I'd be eating it every single day!0 -
I also had it carbonara style for lunch :-) Even my sicilian husband, who swore he would give up his pasta only when i pried it from his cold, dead hands, liked spaghetti squash. Perhaps you got a bad one? I had one a couple of weeks ago that was awful - mushy and tasteless. Try again!0

OMG i made it for the 1st time last night. plain its so good.

First, you can't expect it to taste anything like pasta. It's just not how it is.
When I make it, I cook the spaghetti squash in the microwave (cut in half). When it's done I set it on the counter to cool down. While it is cooling I cook some pasta (1/4 to 1/2 servings for each person). When the squash is cool I shred one half of it and cut up a carrot and green pepper into thin strips. When the pasta is done I drain it, add it back to the pot with the carrots, squash and green peppers. Than add in some margarine/butter/olive oil, pepper and a bunch of Tex Mex seasoning. Mix it all together and than plate. You get a huge plate for pretty low calories.
I don't like the taste of it plain. My husband does. I love it mixed with pasta ... I use spaghettini. I have never had it with tomato sauce or anything other than spices and a fat.
We don't buy it that often as it can be pretty pricey here. Last time I went to the store a small squash was over $6. However, I can make one squash last for two full meals for my husband and I (four servings) and than two lunches for my husband. Mixed with pasta and some spices, fat and veggies it is really good.0 -

AGREED! If I can find a way too make it taste good to me, I am all for it! I may try a few of the skinny taste recipes, they appear to have possibilities.0 -
i like mine with butter (or olive oil in a pinch) and salt and pepper. i don't try to pretend it is anything that it is not.0

I eat quinoa pasta. It is nearly exactly like real spaghetti and tastes good. I can't tell the difference. Quinoa is healthy.0

Or maybe people should just eat food they like and not force themselves to choke down food they hate?
I love squash, and it still took me a while to warm up to spaghetti squash, mostly because I was expecting spaghetti and not squash which is... dumb. I like it with some butter, lemon, and garlic. Maybe some basil too. Really good wish fish! I find it's also important to drain it, otherwise it can be kind of soupy.0 -
