Way to keep working at it... I think with 117 days of not losing or noticing any change would have made most of us stop! Kudos to you for not giving in!

36 pounds in a year is an awesome job, you are changing your lifestyle not running a race, so the more steady a pace the better you will be for it!

Exactly what I thought about the plataeu!! That is SUPER impressive to me!

It doesn't matter how long it takes. It is gone and you should be proud!! Congratulations!! Don't let anyone make you feel bad about anything.

My weight loss has also been very slow and I am almost 33. I wanted to give up many times because I got frustrated. You have been sticking with it, and that is the hardest part about this whole thing!

Great job.... you look wonderful... well on your way. I know how hormones can affect weight loss. When I was 30 I could think about losing weight. focus a bit, change a few things, and boom weight would start going. Now at 52 and post menopausal things are moving much slower. I do 30 minutes aerobics and weights daily and walk, walk, walk and the progress is slow and that's okay. The important thing is the doing and I applaud you for doing this for a whole year and sticking to it!!! Even though it has been hard, That shows what your made of.... keep going and never give up................. yea!!! for you

Fantastic job! And, remember, that rude comment was made by 22 year old MALE! ;-)
  • Good work! If I can say I've lost 36 one year from now, I will be THRILLED  Keep it up... you have inspired me this morning :)

36 pounds in one year isn't impressive speedwise, but slow progress is still progress I suppose. Keep it up.

That's kind of rude. It's a success story, doesn't have to be a speedy one. At least she dropped the weight. That's more then I've lost in the past year! I only went down 4 lbs since last year and that's why I'm JUST starting Fitness Pal now. Before this I did nothing.

I think my rate of loss is even slower than yours so I say Kudo's to you!! That's awesome. And I love your pics, too funny.
  • I'm just about at my 1 year anniversary (just a month to go) sitting at 35lbs lost as well. I was discouraged about my slow progress, but reading your post and seeing your progress pictures - what a change, congratulations! I guess sometimes it's hard to see the changes in yourself, but you're looking great. Congratulations, and thank you for this post!

Well done 36 pounds is 36 pounds. Despite some comments like (36 pounds in one year isn't impressive speedwise, but slow progress is still progress I suppose). IF PEOPLE CANT BE SUPPORTIVE ON SOMEONE LOSING WEIGHT NO MATTER HOW MUCH, THEN DONT SAY ANYTHING:mad:

Everyone is different and you should be proud of yourself good luck on the rest of your journey:bigsmile:

    This...

Congrats on your weight loss! It's especially impressive given the thyroid issues!!

    Congratulations!

I think 36lbs is impressive regardless of how long it took (besides, how many people have lost 36lb fast and put it back on just as fast?) and your pictures really do show a massive difference - which is more important than the scales anyway.

I'm not too sure how I'll react when I hit a plateau but I'll try to remember your epic 117 days and keep at it as best I can until I reach my goal - however long that may take! Reading things like this is what keeps me on track, so thank you!

To the kid who left the backhanded 'compliment' - *kitten*.

    trolling?
...Not intentionally. You people are way too sensitive, that was meant to be a compliment. And I get bashed from every angle. No wonder I rarely come to these forums. I get attacked by middle aged women every time.

I'm not middle aged. But I still think you are a jerk. What a horrible addition to such an inspiring post.

OP- you did great! If I am at 36 lb lost by my one year I will cry.

This is true, but my Dr. said that hormones and thyroid issues has kept me from losing the weight and once those are back to normal, I can lose the weight and not be struggling so much. Trust me, I thought I should of made it to my goal...just hope I can be an encouragement to others who are struggling out there!

I know all too well about the Hormone and Thyroid issues, not too mention, the age thing. Congrats on your loss, keep up the excellent work.

    This made me laugh!!
  • Celebrating 1 year on My Fitness Pal and my weight loss...lost 36.7 pounds!!!! I'm over half way to my goal!!! It's hard to believe a year has gone by.
I had hoped for more weight loss than 36 pounds in one year :noway: , but after going to the Doctor, I have found that my hormones, thyroid and a few other things are out of wack, so working on getting them all back to somewhat normal which, they say, will help me to lose the weight.
I've had many plateaus...one lasting an agonizing 117 days...very frustrating to say the least! Many times I shed tears  and wanted to give up, but I kept pressing through...Any way here's my progress so far...Hope I did this right and you can see the pics...Thanks!

People who lose slowly have a better chance at success than those who lose it quickly. The fact that she's kept it off for a year is amazing. Keep up the great work!!

WOW, I'm totally overwhelmed!!! THANK YOU everyone for the feedback! :flowerforyou: So great to have such support. I wasn't going to post cause I didn't hit my goal like I thought I would, but you never know who might be facing the same "giants" as you and just glad I could inspire others to not give up, keep on working out, eating right...don't stop!

Trust me, I was so upset day after day getting on the scales...I wanted to plow into brownies, icecream, chips, cookies...you name it, if it wasn't healthy I wanted it! At that time of my frustration I just didn't care, why bother continuing the workouts and eating right/healthy! But I'd calm down and get right back in the game! When I broke that 117 day plateau I only lost .4 pounds, then went back up a little, so it wasn't a huge loss. Then I had another plateau...

You may laugh at this, but I'd be so close to breaking the plateaus, like just .2 pounds and I'd be there, you think I could pee that out of me...no... never happened :noway: What?! I'm sure many of you have thought the same thing...lol

    Again...THANK YOU all...blessings

You are a great example of perseverance and a real success story. Hmmm, I never thought of success related to how quickly I did this. I am more concerned with keeping it off. When it is hard, and you keep going, that's the good stuff.

As to 22 year old men...I don't think being an a**hole has anything to do with that. There are a lot of young guys out there who don't behave like that.
  • Congrats!!! You are doing so awesome! You should feel very proud & don't be so hard on yourself. I too, have a borderline slow thyroid & I take tamoxifen and the weight isn't coming off as fast as it used to when I was in my 30's, but I feel good anyway. I have managed to take off 14 lbs since the beginning of the year. I'm not following a diet, just eating much healthier & getting exercise in 6 days a week.. My doctor said that at some point my body will shed the weight but I will just take it one day at a time.

Keep up the good work!! Your very inspiring!!! :)
