Can we talk poop for a minute?

When it comes to pooping and staying regular, all you hear is fiber...fiber...execise...fiber...water...fiber... Yeah, that's not doing it for me. The cleaner a lifestyle I lead, the harder it is for me to poop. Eventually, I'm going to have to resort to eating Taco Bell, since that manages to produce a movement for me within a couple of hours.

Does anyone else find this to be true? (Not necessarily the Taco Bell thing, but the rest of it.)

    Yes.

I assumed it was dehydration, because I knew for sure I was not drinking enough water. I started making sure I drank ample water, even using a 64 oz. bottle with the oz. marked on it each day. No change. I know it's not fiber, because I do get that in my fruits and veggies. I was told by a friend who went through a big diet and exercise change last year that she experienced the same thing. Once you start making such big changes, things get affected and sometimes take time to right themselves, I suppose.

Are you getting enough fat in your diet? Fiber and hydration are good, but you need fats to poop, too.

Are you eating natural fiber or things like fiber one bars. Those things can kill a gut for sure.

In addition to eating clean I take 6 fiber pills a day.

My poops are very regimented in time. M-F I poop everyday between 830-845
Sat and Sun its a bit later as my diet and workout times vary a bit.

I think regular poops are very important. I mean, who doesnt love talking about poop? Have your looked at the texture of your poop?

milled flax seed. Add it to yogurt or smoothies. Only 60 calories for 2 tablespoons, and well worth it. Don't give in to the Taco Bell.

Am I the only one that goes 2-3 times a day, at the same time everyday? I am clockwork when it comes to defecating.

4 ounces of prune juice every morning upon arising. After 10 minutes, drink 2 large glasses of water.
Also, 400 mg of magnesium citrate after dinner with 1 large glass of water.

1.) If you're getting too much fiber, this can have the opposite effect of keeping you regular

2.) Are you getting enough fat? When people "diet" they tend to want to cut out fat because they tend to think that fat makes you fat. You need fat for this as well as other bodily functions...fat is an essential nutrient.

3.) This shouldn't be an issue really considering girls don't poop anyway...or so I was lead to believe.

This alone would make me throw up. That's way too much liquid for me to drink right after waking up...

I've noticed that ever since I started clean eating I wasn't really going at all. Now I eat a lot of fiber and drink a lot of water to keep things going. It just took awhile for my body to get in the swing of things.

Try a 1/2 cup of All Bran Buds in Cereal every morning. That usually does the trick. Or Red River Cereal....breakfast of regular champions.

Drink coffee, or go for a run. Even more fun would be to eat a buttload of chocolate. That'll get things going for sure.

I eat clean too, but I had poop problems in the beginning as well. Have you tried a probiotic? That should help. I eat a lot of green veggies, take a fish oil supplement, and drink coffee daily. I am about to crap my pants nearly every morning when I'm done with my work out. Good luck!

I'm not "clean" I'm a dirty girl, but with weight loss it happens to us all. The only thing that has worked for me is laxatives. No prunes, prune juices, fiber, water, coffee...nope. Also, look at your multi-vitamin that could be very binding and/or calcium supplements.

It's funny how a binge can make me about as regular as the flooding in the Nile.
  • too much fibre can slow things as your colon absorbs the water from the fibre, lots and lots of water for starts - beans are a goody too, albeit with musical side effects :embarassed:
