didnt read other responses, but i love them..had them for the first time about a year ago, now eat them about once a week, jsut had them last night actually and my 7 year old always begs for seconds. We cut the ends off, slice them in half, saute in a little olive oil cut side down until they get a little crisp/brown, then at the end add a touch of chicken base or broth and simmer for a couple minutes (not too long they will get mushy). For me the first time i tried it (and i am not a real cabbage fan) the best way to describe it was like the inside of an eggroll-yes i know thats cabbage, but it isnt just cabbage, it has some other flavors in there too and it described the taste perfectly.0

They don't taste like cabbage,I mean I can't really describe the taste, you'll probably have to see for yourself.
When I just cook them in water and eat them without anything added, the taste is awful, but when I put dill sauce or tomato sauce over them, they are amazing! I also like them with roasted onions and some black pepper.0 -
OH WE LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM in this household.0

2? like two single sprouts? 2 bags?
I love them roasted either in the oven or pan roasted. A little olive oil and good ol' salt and pepper.0 -
They taste a little sweeter than cabbage. I absolutely love them roasted or stir fried in ginger, garlic and soy. I also cut them in half before cooking them It might be a mental thing, but they taste better that way. I also don't cook them until their mushy, I keep them a little al dente as the flavor is slightly better.
This exactly. After I roast them I actually like to dip them in red wine vinegar as I eat. I love vinegar with cabbage so I guess that's why.0 -
Similar to cabbage, but give them a try! The taste varies on how you cook them (they do not taste good overcooked and mushy) and how fresh they are.
Note - Don't be put off by the smell!0 -
I like the fresh ones roasted! YUM!0

I don't find brussels sweeter... I find them more bitter which is why I cook the **** out of them.0

They taste like AWESOME is what they taste like!!!! :-)
No, but seriously, they are one of those foods where when you eat it, you can instantly feel toxins being scrubbed from your arteries because what you're eating has SO MANY VITAMINS. I don't actually know how comparatively "healthy" the brussels sprout is, but -- it tastes SUPER good for you. I would equate it to greens or kale... dark green, leafy, a little bitter, and a lot artery-scrubby.
I love them. Roast them with whole garlic cloves and olive oil, and if you want, pancetta. YUM. If you don't roast, steam them plenty. Add butter if they are a bit too bitter for your taste. The better they are cooked, the better they taste. Like most foods. :-)0 -
The real question should be what do Brussels sprouts FEEL like? (as they rip through your lower intestines, and cause the end of all of your friendships, as your children and partner resent your existence)0

I don't think they taste like anything I have ever eaten, the closest is cabbage but even then, they don't tste loads like it. I really like them but I can't eat too many. Even my three year old loves them. That surpised me a lot.0

I think they taste like cabbage.
Yeah. A bit sweeter. I LOVE em. Do it simply steammed with a couple squirts of spray butter.0 -
Sliced thin and sauted in butter and olive oil with fresh garlic. Even my kids will eat them-and ask for seconds. Also yummy with toasted slivered almonds when I roast them.
Yep! I get them already shaved in a bag, which is how I learned to love them. I use olive oil and thinly-sliced garlic (and S&P of course) in my big cast iron skillet and cook the shaved sprouts until some start turning deep brown (pan-roasted). SO GOOD.0 -
Love them!
I personally think they taste a bit like cabbage, but when roasted it is hard to compare to anything imho. I like to dip 'em in a little red wine vinegar before eating.0 -
They taste a bit like cabbage, but maybe more bitter ... I love 'em though. Try them roasted in the oven with a bit of olive oil, salt/pepper and some balsamic vinegar. Then toss them with some walnuts and pomegranate seeds (? are they seeds? pods?)0
-
Yeah. They look like tiny cabbages, but they do not taste like cabbage. And I think cabbage is sweeter than brussels sprouts, not the other way around.0

They're kind of bland when they're boiled.
When my wife and I were on Atkins we used to de-stem, bisect, deep-fat fry, strain, and then coat them generously with Parmesan cheese. They were heavenly but the aroma stank up the house for the next two days.
Naturally that's not a low-fat or low-calorie way to handle the little boogers. We need to try them roasted.... Roasting changes EVERYTHING about EVERY vegetable!0 -
They are delicious! If you can, get them when they are still on the stalk. Trader Joe's sells them like this in the fall. It takes time to cut them from the stalk, trim them and prep them but it's so worth the effort.0

Just made my 2 little sprouts for lunch and OH MY GOSH, they were delicious!!! Sauteed with a bit of olive oil and minced garlic, with a dash of salt and pepper. I'm a fan!!!0
