Seriously people?????? You are going to give this women flack because she wants to be safe? This is what is wrong with America today! People have lost their humanity.
I say go for it girl! I can't as well do this because I have a .357 magnum-isn't an easy gun to carry just walking hahahahaha I would say a shoulder holster, garter holster, or ankle holster would be my best suggestion-you need something that will keep it secure and in place....:)
Good Luck and good for you to take your safety into your own hands-nothing wrong with that at all and don't let people tell you it is.
Actually, I didn't give her flack for wanting to be safe. I gave her flack for mishandling the weapon. She could have injured herself. Why on earth would anyone shove a gun down their pants when they are running?
My comment on Trayvon Martin was more in line with playing devil's advocate. There are two sides to this coin. Sure, taking guns away from owners is asking for higher crime rates because criminals will get guns regardless. But at the same time, if the guns weren't available for anyone, then criminals couldn't get them.
The United States has 5 times the violent deaths of the UK and their police force (mostly) doesn't even carry.
I didn't shove it down my pants! I have a holster, factory that came WITH my gun that I slipped onto my compression shorts. I carried it legitimately...it just wasn't comfortable.
Why didn't you use the holster? I'm sure you had the safety on, but that just sounds dangerous. People have shot themselves carrying that way before.
I did use the holster. I put the gun in the holster, the holster attached to my waistband. The holster covers the trigger and the safety...

First of all I have only skimmed portions of the thread. Reading all the moronic, ignorant, scaredy cat, blame the gun, anti comments is bad for my blood pressure. (which has gone down far enough to consider stopping my BP meds, woohoo!)
Given all that: I support your right and desire to carry while running. I use the small version of the "trump card" available from www.pistolwear.com and use it to carry a small 9mm (Rohrbaugh R9). I also would suggest self defense and situational awareness classes. (and of course a reasonable amount of firearms training)
I've used several other "belly band" type products and the "trump card" is the most secure, comfortable and robust that I've found so far. They also have a couple of other versions that might work for you also. Price is not bad either.
One option with the "trump card" is that they over an additional over the shoulder strap that allows it to be used higher up across your chest in a shoulder holster like carry. I have not used it in that fashion and I wonder how comfortable that mode would be for a female.0 -

The problem is most people are anti gun which I do not judge them for what they believe. But those same people also do not have any type of educations or training with using guns so they are going to be biased. There is nothing wrong with carrying a gun with while running. I would suggest picking a different area to run in so you just do not have to run with a gun.0

(Yes, I know you can point out egregious acts aware of our racist history, but the basic tenants of American philosophy hold true). Only in America are we allowed to protect ourselves from a government out of control. There is a reason we chose to go against the Monarchy and institute a representational government because we believe in checks and balances. I'm not so scared of the criminals, but I am scared of a government that has a right to take from me whatever they want whether it be firearms, property, or the food from your child's plate.
There is a reason people are literally dying every day to get into this country. There is a reason why people fight for Visas to get into this country. There is a reason why we have been a true hegemony for the last 150y ears or so. Because yes ONLY in America.

I understand where you are coming from. I too, would rather have it and not need it...I also live in a rural area. When I walk I carry my hand gun in a fanny pack facing the front, concealed by my t-shirt. Where I live my screams are not going to be heard. I have to be able to protect myself. I also carry when I travel alone. My husband wants me to be able to take care of myself. He understands the bad elements out there. He is 10 year veteran cop. Asking someone nicely to not harm you does not work in most cases when they have in mind to do bad things to you. :flowerforyou: Don't let anyone make you feel badly about this. Let them carry a fly swat if they choose to. Carry legally and safely and take care. People carrying in the cities have more of a chance of having to actually use their guns. You and I will probably never ever have to defend our selves. I have carried for a really long time and no one even knows but my family. They understand the why of it. That's all that matters to me. Yes. Poor Treyvon was murdered by a responsible gun owner, while he was straddling said gun owner, pinning him to the ground and bashing his head into a concrete sidewalk.
Where I come from, that's called self defense.
Trevon Martin was followed by his killer for "looking suspicious" meaning being a young black man, then confronted unprovoked, despite 911 officials telling Zimmerman not to do so when he called. There was no physical scuffle like you described. Don't spread misinformation about a poor dead child to push your political agenda.

I can to you. There is not evidence to say who provoked who in the scuffle that happened. But evidence is against Martin in the case based on physical evidence (head wounds, broken nose to Zimmerman).

Have you tried going to a sporting goods store, like Cabelas and just unload your gun (here we have to unload and take to customer service to be checked out first), and bring it in the store with you to test out holsters for comfortable one .0 -

This is what I do! I have a big Doberman, no issues yet with anyone bothering me. Although, I have to say, if we were allowed to carry I totally would! All the power to you and I hope you find something that works for you! I love the compression shorts with the holster, I saw those many months ago.0 -
IMO, use a solid belt and an SOB holster. (Belt worn against the skin under your running outfit if necessary.)
This is the ONLY time I would consider an SOB holster, (because that is what it feels like to fall/sit on one) but most other options are not good because of the weight unbalancing you or the motion of your running causing chafing.0 -
I have a CWP, but I don't carry when I walk/run. I usually depend on my life skills then and pay super close attention to my surroundings. It's best to have a buddy, but that's not always a do-able thing.
Personally, I'd opt for a knife in your sock or back pocket if you have one.0 -

I used to live in a rural area similar to what you described. People might think you are being paranoid, but you are smart to be carrying a weapon. I once was attacked by an insane meth head and it took the cops over 30 minutes to get out there to help me. As long as you know how to use your weapon and you are safe, carry it with you. You never know what can happen. Be safe!
No kidding. If you are expecting the cops to keep you safe, you've got another think coming.

Good for you girl! I live in a rural area too and where there are coyotes there are mountain lions and bears. I wish I had eye hand coordination you can bet I would be carrying one.

I am a leftie also. I carry my .38 in a wrap-around wrist holster on my right forearm. It is meant for ankle carry, but the uneven weight is a problem for me when running.0

Elbow to the ribs.
Knee in the crotch.
Scream, yell, make a ton of noise and run like hell.
Nothing wrong with owning a gun for protection, but if someone comes at you from behind, you won't have time to un-holster, aim and shoot. It'll be too late. Your attacker will have it and then your fate is sealed.

All the gun law arguments aside, it is extremely important for women out there to protect themselves.
I have passed up so many prime running nights because I don't have anything to protect myself if someone did stop me. The only thing I have is my cell phone which wouldn't help much. Being only 5'0 and (very fiesty, scrappy) 125 pounds, I'm not sure I'd be able to fight off an attacker, so instead I decided not to risk it. Those laughing think it's funny, but sexual assault attacks on women are a serious issue in America today. If women can defend themselves just so they can enjoy a good run, more power to them.
Edit- I have also ran into some questionable animals (foxes, stray dogs, etc) that I wasn't sure if they were going to do anything while I ran by them. While I wouldn't want to shoot them, I don't know what I'd do if they decided to attack either. I guess it's helpful to just be prepared if you know you are going to be running in a dodgy area.0 -

It's great that you 'feel' 100% safe.
I hope you know that you aren't. There is nowhere in the world, no country, no community or place where your safety equates to 100%.
But that's the problem isn't it. Feelings, these days, trump everything, including common sense and logic.
Keep feeling away and telling rational people that what they do seems silly to you.
And finally, I use the built in holster compression shorts from 511. I live in a rural area as well and wear it when I run/walk at night or during the day. I'm not so much worried about human predators or event the large number of canine predators. I have issues with the antelope, especially the males during mating season. Mean *kitten*.
And for the commenter on deer muggings, do a youtube search for just that thing and you'll see several videos of hikers getting seriously injured by Bambi. Wildlife; carnivores, omnivores (the wild pigs in SoCal were terrifying) and herbivores can all be extremely dangerous. It seems like many people (not all) who live in urban/suburban environment don't understand this.
For the people trying to warn the OP away from a firearm and to pepper spray, that won't deter a rabid animal. Skunks, in my area, have been turning up positive lately and been attacking dogs and people. All things to consider.
