Quite frankly, I've grown quite tired of hearing how awesome bacon is over and over and over on the internet. YES WE GET IT. You like bacon.

Okay - I don't like fat.....gives me the creeps, but lean bacon like center cut that is cooked right....OMG.....it's good. And it doesn't take much to really improve the flavor of vegetables!

I like bacon but don't eat it regularly since I heard a radio ad that made the point that pigs are smarter than a 2 year old, and I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and it just doesn't seem right somehow to eat something smarter than they are (just try playing hide the iPhone from the baby a few times and you will see what I mean).

i think the allure is in the unhealthy, "forbidden" aspect. you aren't going to find many people going on and on about the benefits of how healthy bacon is. since it shouldn't be eaten in large amounts, it becomes that much more desirable. that aside, the high fat content is probably what does a lot of people in. fat makes pretty much ANYTHING taste better. lol.

What is it about bacon that makes people like it so much? I don't think any other meat product brings out emotions (not sure how else to say it) in people. Even here on MFP, I've seen people refusing to give up bacon.

Personally, I'm not into it. As a kid, the jelly-like fat on it gave me the creeps. There were classic battles at the breakfast table between my refusal to eat it and my dad telling me about all the starving kids in the world. Although, I could never see how two little strips of bacon could feed people. As an adult, I can't see the value as it doesn't seem like you get any meat. Overall, I just never acquired a taste for it.

So what's your bacon story? Why do you like it, or not?

I dont eat beef or pork..it grosses me out!! eh....i love turkey bacon but im not so "in love" with it that i couldnt give it up...

I love bacon, but it has to be crisp. I can't eat it if it is "wiggly"

I also can't eat store brand bacon.

I work in a breakfast restaurant and our bacon is ridiculous. I could eat 10 pieces in one sitting, it is so good. Thick cut, smokey and always just crisp enough, it melts in your mouth..

    omg...I want bacon..

This is awesome! I do have to add that I'm a veggie and haven't eaten meat in three years. Maybe people know or figured that out. Just didn't want to influence any answers. I have no probs with people liking bacon. Just wanted to know why and didn't want people to think I'm fakin'.

I've never had american bacon but it looks really fatty. Short cut bacon with the fat cut off is superior,

In saying that, I haven't had bacon in about 9 years I think due to me no eat animals now. I do enjoy facon though.
that stament was hilarious when I mistook facon with falcon.

People have made it into a "trend" if you will. Teenagers started going around yelling about how cool bacon is for some reason and I guess others have caught on. Some other people just like bacon. I could live without it though, nothing special about it.

it is a Internet trend yea but my gramdmother kept butter containers full of bacon grease and used it to fry potatoes and fry and egg over easy with out flipping the egg and ive been inlove with it long before the Internet. Coconut oil comes a close second over bacon grease but bacon itself trumps coconuts.

Yup!! Truthfully, taken in limited amounts is not that bad for you. I get my bacon fix by putting like 1-2T of Hormels Bacn Bits into my egg white scramble.

If the fatty part is too fatty I just pick it off and eat the rest of the piece. I think the thing that really draws people in is the flavor because it's so delicious. I don't think I've ever met someone who didn't like bacon because of the way it tastes.

I love bacon - bacon is delicious and tasty. In fact I just watched the 11th Doctor's first episode and he loses points for not liking bacon, which isn't good because he's already negative points for not being David Tennant.

Whole foods had this last weekend.

    It was decent.
  • I like it. Don't love it. I usually have to eat it with something, not alone. Coincidence: my husband's favorite meal is grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon (with BBQ sauce). We had it tonight! It compliments A LOT of other food. Bacon cheeseburger - oh yeah! Bacon with mac & cheese - heck yeah! Bacon wrapped filet - Mmmmm. But all alone? Meh. The only kind I can tolerate by itself is maple bacon. I've also had maple "candied" bacon - yum!
