It is crap. It's what most Americans eat. You essentially told the OP her idea was no better. It is.

It's amazing how people bash paleo so quickly. There are plenty of books, articles, etc that illustrate why paleo makes sense (from a scientific perspective). It's a lost cause trying to explain or validate it to people that already have their mind made up. I just wish people would look into it further, before assuming they know everything there is to know about what is/isn't healthy. To the OP, google is your friend. There's so much information out there. Read up! I wish you the best.

I have spoken to several people who have been eating paleo and not only do they feel so much better but have lost weight. I have always had stomach issues and I have read that this is one way of eating to help with that. I think we each can choose how we eat and what works for us personally is our own choices. We are each individuals and I really wanted to get suggestions on how to start and follow this way of eating. Thank you all for your ideas and help. :)

There's nothing wrong with wanting to eat more whole, unprocessed foods and eliminate more heavily processed foods from your diet. I personally think paleo is a little too restrictive, but the idea behind eating real food as opposed to processed food is a good one. Unless you've got an intolerance to dairy, there really isn't any reason to cut it out of your diet. Same with legumes and potatoes.

What's there to back up? The diet is based off how our ancestors ate. They didn't have nearly all the foods that we have available to us today. Our bodies weren't built to process all the crap they put in food nowadays. I stick to a mostly Paleo diet. I do eat eggs, and some dairy and beans (every once in a while). It's done wonders for my energy and my body composition.

To the OP, stick to what you can. Eat lean meats and plenty of fruits and veggies. It can get expensive sometimes, if you're trying to purchase organic food. But even if you can't afford organic, at least the generic stuff isn't as bad as processed foods.

Our ancestors average age was 30.
10000 years ago? they had pies, breads, and grains.
Research on skeletons have shown we didnt eat as much meat. We were closer to vegetarian eaters.
I am pro-meat but I am against the sterotype of reverting back.

Our ancestors did not take medications, vaccines, antibiotics, either. If they sustained an injury, they died. Things are not the same as they were in the past.

I am all for whole foods, but eliminating food groups is always doomed to failure.

btw Its not mostly paleo. That means you generally eat whole foods...

Touché. Granted, what you said may be true, they did not have processed foods with high fructose corn syrup and the like. That is what I was referring to.

And okay. I eat a mostly whole foods diet then.

I doesn't matter whether or not you agree with the paleo diet. Just let the paleo people talk. It's not like they're hurting anyone or themselves.

People are so afraid of you trying it! Jesus christ. It's certainly a lot more healthful than how most people eat. Give it a try.

You'll want coconut oil, coconut milk, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, good quality sauerkraut or kimchee, clarified butter/ghee, maybe some chili paste or something. Fill your freezer with good quality meat (from the farmer's market or a good butcher). Ask for grassfed beef, or pastured pork, or free range chicken/eggs. Get lots of eggs. And get used to buying lots and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The hardest part, like any diet, is changing your habits! You'll have to cook more and you won't be able to snack on starchy foods, obviously. But once you get used to it, it's awesome and you feel great.

meh. maybe. But a quick review of his posts, make it clear: his general impairment in gricean pragmatics suggest so-called strawmen are all he responds to.

I'm going to ignore the argument and try to be helpful to the OP. ^_^

I've tried Paleo for a month lat year and felt great! It totally went along with the thought I had that it would be healthier to mainly eat meat and vegetables and shun processed foods. I used the blog Mark's Daily Apple as my main reference, along with Nerd Fitness. I only fell off the wagon from being in college and turning back to Mt Dew and Energy drinks during classes.

Mark's Daily Apple has a lot of links to scientific studies and explains how & why it works. Good luck to you & your family, & don't let the internet trolls get you down!

And that is the way to go.

People are very polar and dont look at why this diet may work?

Why dont people look at the underlying cause of why the diet is functional and take bits and pieces. if people did that they would actually be able to create a diet they enjoy and still maintain a fairly isocaloric lifestyle.

BTW fructose as a cause of obesity and health problems has been destroyed by recent studies.

I've been doing Paleo for the past year.

I can't recommend it enough. I went from a size 10 to a 2. My muscle tone is awesome (I lift weights as well) and I feel better than I have in years. I have a lot of energy now and very little hunger.

It turns out I was allergic to wheat and dairy. So cutting these out along with grains, legumes and sugar has been a real game changer for me. I will never go back to eating the Standard American Diet (SAD).

Robb Wolffe has a wonderful book Called The Paleo Solution and a wonderful podcast page that is full of Paleo advice.

    http://robbwolf.com/

There is also another book I highly recommend called The Whole30 - It Starts with Food. Great info.

    http://whole9life.com/itstartswithfood/

I also follow The Paleo Diet Life Style on FB.

    https://www.facebook.com/paleodietlifestyle?fref=ts

If you don't have FB, they have a webpage. They have fabulous recipes. I make a lot of them. The fajita's being my favorite. I also make a killer Gumbo from that page that is to die for. Instead of rice, you make cauliflower rice. You pulse cauliflower in a food processor or blender until it looks like rice and then you sautee it in butter or olive oil and and your favorite seasonings. It's outstanding and better than rice any day.

    http://paleodietlifestyle.com/paleo-diet-recipes/

Although the book Wheat Belly is not Paleo, if you have trouble with digestion is worth reading.

    http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/

Give it a try. You might just love it just as much as a lot of us "Paleo" people.

Both. Wheat gives me unbearable asthma and the dairy was making it worse.

I realize fruit has sugar..... but it's not table sugar.

I eat a grapefruit or two every day. I need the carbs for my workouts. It's been awesome so far.

In that case its a true allergy. It is just many people claim they have allergies but nothing really happens.
