    I loved "The Shadow of the Wind." Great book.
    Mine would probably be Steinbeck's "Of Mice And Men." Steinbeck has always resonated with me.

    Now, for fun, I read Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" at least once every couple of years. My favorite book of the 5 book "trilogy" is "Restaurant at the End of the Universe." I started reading Adams in high school and just fell in love with his storytelling.

    I hated reading "Of Mice and Men" great book but it was a tough read for me.

    I reread them every summer...I'm just about to begin on Wizard and Glass :love:

    I love the Dark Tower series. I've heard they are going to be made into a movie or tv series and I seriously hope it doesn't happen. It would just ruin it.

    Among my all-time faves are "Beach Music" and "South of Broad" by Pat Conroy, and "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. Memoirs of a Geisha was phenominal as well...

    In the Biography cateogory, "I am Ozzy" is one of the best, and funniest rock biographies I've ever read....I've never laughed out loud so much from a book before.

    I'm sure there are plenty of others, but I can't think of them right now.

    Pillars of the Earth is my all time favorite book. Followed closely by another Follet, Night Over Water.
    Stephen King's The Stand and the Dark Tower Series are also some of my favorites.

    Alvin Maker Series by Orson Scott Card and the Anne of Green Gables Series by LM Montgomery and Lisey's Story by Stephen King...I'm a little schizoid.

    Gone with the Wind-Margaret Mitchell
    The Good Earth=Pearl S. Buck
    The Shining-Stephen King

    Those are three that I have read and re-read over and over again.

    My first favorite book is Anne of Green Gables. I still love Anne and all of L.M. Montgomery's books. It's so hard to pick favorites but a few are

    The series that really got me into reading were the Nancy Drew mysteries. Now I read anything and everything. But a good murder mystery is always on my bedside table!

    I have been a book geek since I could read...My first set of favorites were the "Betsy/Tacy/Tib" series by Maud Hart Lovelace. I felt like those girls were my best friends.:wink:

    My first "grownup" book that I fell in love with (sometime in 6th or 7th grade) was Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

    I totally forgot about Summer of My German Soldier! I read it in school and loved it, too! Will have to find it again. Thanks for the reminder!

    I fell in love with them both instatntly and still re read them periodically today.

    There is more, there is no one favorite book as I'm complicated or so the voices in my head tell me...but I put up this one so maybe people would look it up as its quite unique and beautifully written.

    My mom had those books and my dad and I would read them every night before bed.

    I also loved the Little House on the Prairie series and Anne of Green Gables. I also loved the Secret Garden.

    As I got older I loved The Great Gatsby and 1984. Also Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Jungle. So many.

    I will read just about anything, especially if it is free. That is why I read Twilight series. I have the Fifty Shades series but am saving it until I run out of good things to read (I have over 100 books I am working through). LOL

    i usually have a few books on the go -- i try to have 1 business/self-improvement book and 1 or 2 fiction novels on the go (the tell if i have 2 fiction novels on the go ...then the first one isnt holding me...).
    best of all time- - too many to list and too many years to try and think back over! But recently have read a few good ones. Hearing heartbeats is a good one, as well just finished You before Me -- easy read and tearjerker but good.

    The Dresden Files, The Black Company, and anything by Ed Greenwood make my list.

    I would have to say my all time favorite is Thinner-- by Stephen King, I could not put it down!! I have to also say that my mushy side really loved the biography by Patrick Swayze and his wife.. truly a good guy and sexy as hell too!

    Absolute all-time fav? The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein.

    But looking up a few posts, I'm seeing Shogun, which is a great reminder -- I've missed that one for a while!

    The very first to find it's way into my heart and gave me a love for reading was "Ferdinand the Bull," read to me by my grandpa. He was an amazing narrator and made the book interesting and fun every time he read it. I never tired of it.

    My brother captured him on video reading it just before his mind deteriorated and he was placed in a nursing home. He's been gone almost 12 years now and I can still hear his voice reading that book. It will be the first book I read to my grandchildren. I hope I can do it justice!

    My favorite book? I hate to say that 50 shades book, but it probably is.

    I've never read it, but my wife has...and thus it is a very good book in my opinion. There are a few others that I don't know the names of or titles to...but I like them too (again, I've never read them).

    I agree with Clint Eastwood, but it would almost have to be him from 10-15 years ago. I really can't picture anyone else in the role.

    Can't choose one. They are like kids - All beautiful, with gifts to offer, but different from each other. That said here are some of the ones that come to mind:
    Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
    Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World (non fiction account of Ernest Shackleton's ill fated expedition to Antarctica, but he managed to lead his crew to safety. He was true grit personified).
    David Copperfield - Charles ****ens
