What it Looks Like to Weigh Yourself Everyday

I weigh myself 2x a day, once when I wake up and once when I go to sleep. I don't concentrate on being a certain number, but I like to know my range which usually fluctuates between 3lbs a day. I know some people think this is weighing myself too frequently, but like some other posters above I find comfort in numbers. I am maintaining and it helps me keep on track better than once a week.0

To answer the question in the thread title, here's what it looks like:

I focus on the skinny purple line - an exponentially smoothed weighted average - rather than on the individual data points. It's useful to know my normal range of fluctuation. As long as most data points are below the weighted average, I'm headed in the right direction. Once I reach my goal, I'll use the weighted average as an early warning system to keep from gaining the weight back.0 -
I weigh every morning as soon as I get out of the shower.
I like data. I like data with high granularity.
Also, I can totally frack up progress in just a week. I bet I could put on 10 pounds in a week if I decided to. The scale keeps you focused.0 -
Every morning first thing, love it!

I weigh myself daily if I'm in town. I only record on Tuesday morning (or Wednesday if I'm not home on Tuesday). I like to see the fluctuations so that if I'm up Tuesday but was down the rest of the week, I don't worry about it. This week I've been trending up ALL week though, so I'm not excited about weigh in. I did have a gluttonous weekend, but I've got it set to 1.5/week loss, but so far I'm showing a 3 pound loss - exactly what I lost last week (week 1 was last week). Ugh.0

What is the most you see your weight fluctuate from one day to the next?
5 whole pounds!!!0 -
I weigh myself once a week. I know it fluctuates and I stressed about those weeks when I hadn't lost a thing, then I realized that my clothes fit better and I felt better, so I quit stressing about weight.
Now I'm only 1.8 lbs from my goal weight and my average weight loss was 1.5 lbs a week. I wasn't burning it up by any means, but I stuck with it.
Consistency was key for me.0 -
I weigh daily and I claim the lowest number I see as my weight while I am losing and I keep seeing consistently lower numbers. I don't go back up for a day or two where the number is a little higher. Am I mentally giving myself a slight lead on where I really am? Maybe, but horse races are won by a nose; no one cares where the stirrups are. Also, while it is possible to temporarily weigh more than what you might consider your current weight, it is pretty much impossible to weigh significantly less. When I hit my goal, I will change my thinking and keep losing until I don't see a number above my goal for several days.
EDIT - biggest swing I have ever seen was 6# up from day before and 2 days later a pound below. It was a really salty but tasty dinner that caused that.0 -
What is the most you see your weight fluctuate from one day to the next?
1-3 times a day. It fluctuates a lot. I try to be as empty as possible but some days it randomly shoots up. Think I have Ocd now, take too much pleasure out of tracking cals and weigh ins. lol0 -
Usually around once a month-when I was losing weight I wouldn't let myself get on the scale more than once a week, since it derailed my efforts when I would get frustrated with my fluctuations.
Most of the naturally thin people I know don't weigh themselves often. Makes sense...0 -
I weigh most days and record when the number is lower or at least once a week. My weight has fluctuated as much as 4 lbs, but as long as my weekly number isn't higher I'm usually happy. Great post! I'm glad to find someone else who weighs daily. It makes my day when my number is lower and so why not have a great day for every .2 lb loss instead of 1 day of 1 to 2 lb loss? Never made sense to me. :happy:0

I weigh myself every morning when I wake up, without clothes (so I can be consistent Haha), and I record that number. It does not matter if the number or lower or higher. Are you able to see the link I included in my original post? It shows the graph of the last 90 days so you can see the fluctuations.
It makes my day when my number is lower too! Even if it is 0.2 lbs!0 -
Congratulations on the new 1 lb loss! I think if it shows the lower number you are headed in the right direction, even if you dont see that number again for several days.0

I weigh myself every couple of days and it does help me see how my weight fluctuates and the affect certain foods have on my body. I tend to log it every 2 weeks as I sometimes only lose 1/2 lb and I like it to be a full 1lb before I log it.0

I weigh almost everyday but I only record once a week. I try to record same day each week but it really depends on if I'm able to as I weigh myself at work. (I work at a clinic).
Although I've heard it's not good to weigh daily, I've also been told that I should weigh often enough to keep myself on track. If I know I'm starting to go off track and I can see it on the scale, I'll get back on track so that when I hit my weigh in day, I'm good again.0 -
I weigh in and log my weight every single day regardless of whether it's a gain or loss. As mentioned it helps to to see the day to day fluctuations and as a result, I don't panic when the numbers are higher.0

once a week i s fine for most people including
me
because your w eight changes many times a day due to many factors0 -
Me too! I'm a Microbiologist How about you??0

I should have had everyone post what their profession too to see how that correlated to their method. Haha. I mentioned in my earlier post that I'm a scientist -- another data lover.0

Oh good to see other people do the same thing as me! I actually just record every time I see a new "lowest" number. So it may not be my TRUE weight, because I like to drink wine sometimes and I know I am dehydrated the next morning, but it still helps show the trend and I am sure it's only a lb or so off from my true weight.
I do this as well! Any time I have a lower number I also record it. Whether its my true weight it not I use it for motivation to get lower!
Me too! I have a little book with every day recorded since about 3 years ago. On this site I only record when my weigh in day (Saturday) is a loss. Unfortunately this has not been very often lately.0 -
Nice Graph! But how is that exponential? It seems to be linear to me. That's amazing that you can keep around the same rate of weight loss (seems to be ~5 lbs a month). Congrats!0

Me too.. I track with the website and the phone app! I love how the accounts automatically sync!0

Thanks! I completely agree!!0

Oh man! Can you tell this is my first time posting in the forum? Sorry guys! I have been clicking "reply" and I thought that would reply to specific posts and quote the text, but apparently it did not. So now my last few posts do not seem to make much sense. Sorry about that!0

Really like that way of looking at weighing in!! Thank you for sharing!!0

Write it off as justification if you want, but I really do think it is accurate when you are trending in that direction. It is also inconsequential if you are truly losing since it soon won't even appear as a highest weight.0 -
Once every 3-4 weeks. Daily fluctuations mean nothing to me, it just means water retention from too much sodium, or TOM, or glycogen storage.0
-
I weigh daily. After I use the restroom I remove everything (even my wedding ring lol) and slowly step on the scale. If it goes above a certain number then I have truly gained, if it goes below a certain number then I have lost, but if it stays within the same 3 lbs then I am still stuck in my plateau...sigh. This has become quite the adventure : )0
