Alternative religions. Anyone follow one?

Thought this may be a good thread and by alternative I mean anything outside mainstream religion. Obviously without prejudice. so let's see what people follow.

I'm very spiritual and follow concepts from christianity and buddhism. I wouldn't call myself specifically either though :)
  • Great first answer. Interesting as well.

I don't consider myself religious (though I do go to church at least monthly with my mother and daughter). I was brought up with a lot of different views and beliefs so I have adopted bits from each. I would consider myself more of a spiritual person, particularly as my grandpa taught and encouraged meditation and my grandma is Quaker so she showed me silent (and group) observation. When I was a teenager I adopted the view that each religion is like a facet of a diamond, different but part of a whole idea so why should it matter if your 'god' is nature, or blue, or died in agony, aren't the overall messages pretty similar? That's just my view though

Please list your prejudice of 'mainstream religions' so that I can answer accurately.

Assuming Christianity counts, are all 40, 000+ variations count as the same religion?

E.g. does West Borough Baptist Church count as alternative, in your classification?

    I don't think so...it's Baptist-Wiccan would be more alternative-in my humble opinion
  • No outside of Christianity.

I haven't looked at the replies yet however even if you're trying to be respectful, these threads can and will turn ugly very fast.
  • Hopefully people will be respectful. No, my God is better than your God. ;)

I'm Agnostic, as I think it's arrogant to assume there is nothing beyond the comprehension of mankind, but I don't believe in any specific deity or entity.

That's fair enough! Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Cheers!

I'm Pagan, follow my own path but if you had to put a name to it I guess traditional solitary witch would probably come the closest.

I don't really see it as alternative though, I guess there are probably less people around now who follow this kind of path, but that wasn't always the case. Just how it is now.

I'd be more worried about the hipster Atheist crowd who are in it for the fad and really don't know jack about Atheism or anything but just wanna sound cool. They're the ones that usually gets these ugly. FAST!
