I agree, people sometimes make way to big of a deal over something like this, and it is a little unhealthy to have such a bad reaction to overeating by only 200 calories. Sometimes you just need a damn breakfast burrito hahaha. It's food learn to enjoy it sometimes, just learn how to not overdue it all fo the time!

So? I don't see how any of that makes feeling angry about the extra 200 "unhealthy". People on MFP throw "unhealthy" around much too easily.
Maybe the OP didn't want to go for another walk. Maybe she didn't have time. Maybe she just gets angry at herself when she guesses incorrectly. Whatever her reason(s), just because she was angry with herself doesn't make her reaction unhealthy.
Getting angry or upset with yourself to the point that you nearly push yourself to tears over 200 calories is starting to get into unhealthy territory. When looked at as an isolated thing, sure, it's not that bad (hey, who doesn't get upset at themselves over something once in a while?), but such mindsets are rarely isolated, especially when food is involved. They're often indicative of an emotional relationship to food (even one just forming) and can spiral very quickly if not recognized and changes (even mental ones) made to account for it.
And time (or lack thereof) is a horrible excuse, especially when we're talking a 200 calorie difference - http://www.fitsugar.com/Short-Exercises-Burn-200-Calories-25455818 (even if you legitimately have no time today, there's always tomorrow) - but even if we ignore the time excuse, it's still just 200 calories. Skip the midmorning snack, or forego the bun on your burger at lunch and you've made up for it. However, as I originally stated, even if you don't bother doing anything to make up for it, it's not going to make or break you, especially if you've otherwise been on target for the week.
Yes, even on a 1,200 calorie diet, it won't make or break your weight loss for the week. Even at 1,200 calories, you're very likely still looking to lose weight, and as such, have MFP set to lose at least half a pound a week (the smallest increment), which builds in a 250+ calorie per day deficit. Even at 250 calories per day deficit, that's still a 1750 calorie deficit over the course of the week. So even if you never make up that 200 calories, if you're on target the rest of the week, that's still a 1550 calorie deficit you've maintained. Oh no, you've lost .4 pounds instead of .5, or you've lost .9 pounds instead of a full pound.
No matter how you slice it, 200 calories isn't worth getting worked up at all, let alone to the point of tears, or even almost to tears, over. Again, is it a surprise to find out the item you ate is worth twice the calories? Yeah, definitely. But getting worked up over it is more likely to derail you than the food itself will. Log it, learn from it, and move on and do better next time.
I think you mean it isn't worth it to you to get worked up over 200 extra calories. The rest is just a bunch of assumptions and personal preferences and mathmatical details that have nothing to do with the OP.

I did a stupid. I'm actually fairly angry with myself for it.
We went to Sonic this morning and I didn't have my iPad with me. Normally I look up and track everything before I eat it, but this time I thought I would get the "healthiest" looking thing that I saw. I got the Super Sonic burrito because it also had veggies, instead of just meat and cheese. I KNEW it would be a little higher, because of the added veggies. I had estimated it being about 350-400 calories.
580. 580!?! I almost cried. There was NOT enough burrito for it to be 580 calories. Thinking of the amount of fruit I could have had for 580 calories?!? Not to mention the sodium that is now swimming around in my body... I've learned my lesson! No more leaving the house without my iPad.

Anything like this happen to anyone else? Are there foods out there that you've thought were going to be lower calories and it ends up being over the top?
yes I got a mcdonalds caramel frap and discovered later it has 900, count 900 calories..I was like "I drank most my days cals in less than a half hour"??!!! never again I tell ya, I make a mean frapp at home w coffee, creamer and ice for way under 150 cals now dont fret, tomorrows another day!!0 -
Earl of Sandwich. My office catered in lunch, I figured it couldn't be horrible as it was no wider/longer than my phone and not all that tall. 700 calories. *sigh* Let's not even talk about what happened at Cheddar's...
Over eating by 200-300 calories... not horrible. Disillusionment to calories at a restaurant... horrible.
I ate there yesterday...unless you're using one of these, I call shenanigans. Well worth the 700 calories. I normally order two.

I split the small Holy ****take pizza at Mellow Mushroom with my sister. I almost DIED when I saw that it was 490 calories a slice and I had 2 slices!! OH MY GOD!!!0

Muffins are such tricksters. I know they are high in calories and fat but was still surprised a few weeks ago to find out the one I had eaten as a mid-morning snack was over 500 calories. I kept thinking the shop had some crazy mega muffin in their nutrition sheet and I had eaten the regular sized one which couldn't be more than 300 calories. I said Dang! and moved on. I think I was a bit over my calories for the day, but nothing to get upset over.
What bugs me is not a high number of calories, but when the calories don't match up with my satisfaction with the item. It wasn't a great muffin, it wasn't worth it. I could have had a couple cookies, or grilled cheese sandwich, or bagel and cream cheese, or any number of other things for the same or less calories and been more satisfied. I have no problems "spending" a lot on a meal I really enjoy.0 -

Racetrac (a chain gas station around here) sells these warm, fresh baked cookies. It's just one cookie, about the size of your full palm. I wanted one and flipped it over hoping it wouldn't exceed 250 calories or so.
THAT ONE COOKIE WAS 480 CALORIES!!! I about died. I used to eat them all the time!

Saturday at lunch. I went to Chili's with my boyfriend and his parents and I was hemming and hawing over what I was going to eat...I wound up with my old standby. Turns out the Original Chicken crispers are about 1200 calories WITHOUT the fries. All I can say is that it's a good thing I burned over 1000 calories running just a few hours prior otherwise Saturday would have been all kinds of bad.
But my breakfast, if I have more than just a glass of milk, normally hits between 500-750 calories. It's all good.
Are you surprised those chicken tenders are that bad for you?? I think they are yummy, but they are the biggest tenders I have ever seen...So tasty. And yet SO bad for you. *sigh*

YES! in fact not only did I start to cry because I felt so "dumb" by giving up what I really wanted for what I THOUGHT would be a better choice. I even wrote a blog about my melt down
For me it was a shrimp salad and come to find out the dressing alone was 800 calories plus another almost 200 calories for the lettuce & shrimp.
Our Sonics have the calorie amount on the menu now, maybe you can ask your Sonic to do that.
Edited to say: don't be too hard on yourself. It happens when we have a calorie range we want to stay in but go over, so plan an extra workout or a walk around the block to burn off the difference. Oh and ignore the comments of those who don't encourage you... always gotta be a few. :flowerforyou:0 -

This is not a healthy reaction to overeating by 200 Calories.
How so? Obviously she is on a diet now because she was over eating. She is now trying to learn and adjust to counting calories, which as most of us know, trying to estimate calories is a bad idea.
We have all fallen into the trap, and yeah its disappointing and upsetting when we realize we were wrong, but there is no better way to learn a lesson than this. The lessons I remember most are the ones where I ended up being mad/disappointed in myself.
When someone is taking losing weight seriously and has been trying their best, a slip up like this sucks a lot and yeah its kind of a big deal to you because we all know how much work and effort it takes to lose weight. You do feel like you let yourself down when you mess up that way. But the OP has taken the right attitude to say 'learned my lesson next time I will do better' instead of saying 'well I just wont eat anything for the rest of the day' or 'whatever I already screwed up might as well give up'. The farther out you are and the newer you are to this, the more the slip ups hurt. As you keep going, lose more weight, get more comfortable and learn, the slip ups happen less often and you feel okay with slip ups because you have less to lose and know they wont stop you.0 -

I dont think she expected it to go well. But I think she expected it to be nowhere near that much. Mostly because a lot of us have learned from ads that anything in a tortilla is a 'healthier' choice because its not bread. I cant deny that when I see a 'wrap' of something I usually assume its lower calorie because of the tortilla, and pretty much everytime when I actually look it up I find out I am wrong... I no longer trust anything in a tortilla (kidding!).
I get what the OP is saying, I went through the same thing when I was starting out. I remember going to a fast food restaurant with friends and instead of a burger I ordered a grilled ham sandwich. For some reason in my head I figured since it wasnt on a bun but rather on toast it would be better and ham instead of a burger was healthier. Well I got it and it was rather small too so I figured I had made a good choice. I dont know why I didnt realize grilled meant soaked in butter and grease because when I looked up the cals on the thing it was astronomical, 1000 cals for a tiny sandwich, yeah it was upsetting, I wouldnt say I almost cried because I am not at all an emotional person but I could see how someone else more emotional than me would feel like crying. I was definitely upset and mad at myself and learned not to eat at fast food restaurants without checking cals first.0 -

Yes--Vegetarian sub from Jimmy Johns: Granted I forgot to tell them to hold the mayo and it had cheese and avocado--but 680 cals when my lunches are normally 400. I was soooo full and figured out why when I got home and looked it up.0

One meal isn't going to undo all of your progress. Hell not even one whole day. But seriously, if it has eggs, cheese, FRIED tots etc, you gotta expect it to be high cal. No amount of veggies will help that lol. They probably cook the veggies in oil anyways :laugh:0

I loved going to chipotle and I would always order a burrito bowl and chips and guacamole. The burrito bowl has about 900 calories and the chips and guacamole had 1200 calories in it. This was a super big eye opener. The amount of calories I ate in 1 meal was what I am now eating in 1 full day and working out. Don't let it get you too upset use it as a learning tool and move on. Make sure you drink plenty of water today to rid the body of the extra sodium.
THIS^^^^ OMG! I got SLAMMED when I finally got home to look up the burrito bowl!!! And I thought I made the healthiest choices! no cheese, used beans instead of meat, etc.! NEVER eating there again since it is literally the only item on their menu I can eat.0 -

I miss bagels, croissants, scones, and muffins for this very reason. I love them all but the calorie count is WAY crazy. I also miss english muffins, even at only 150-200, that's pushing it...
