I have not read much lately, but I have enjoyed the benefit of people reading some of the recent stuff.
I would suggest the Beauty series by Anne Rice (under an non de plum) . I read much of that one out loud to someone a few years back. that was fun reading time.
A.N. Roquelaire
not that I would know anything about stuff like that
and now I know why we have friends in common.0 -
I'd rather play on train tracks0

Cause... you're both awesome and should be friends already!! :noway:0 -
@ OP - I think my gay friend might read them... but he probably still won't admit to it. :laugh:0

I love reading the racy contemporary romance novels and spend a small fortune on Amazon downloading them. Of course, my husband enjoys that I read them as well
Are there any men who have read any of the romance novels like 50 Shades, Crossfire Series, etc? Do you read them with your spouse/SO or have you read them out of curiousity?
your lucky i read this lol0 -
Books such as 50 Shades of Grey should be a must read requirement for all men! Just sayin' ... Woot! Woot! :drinker:
Woo hoo!
Don't take the book word for word so seriously! Grey is a great character. Flawed and beautiful.
Soooooo, you like your men "flawed?" How YOU doin'?0 -

^ ahhh!!!
This is why I tend to stick to reading philosophy and psychology and your occasional sci-fi novel. I can make a lot more sense of human behavior that way.0 -
I bought 50 Shades and I could not make it past the 6th page. I'm a reader, and that book has to be one of the most poorly written books I've ever read, and I have absolutely no idea why it's so popular.
But in saying that, I've read a few racy books in my day. :smokin: I mostly go for suspense or legal thrillers though...0 -
so who will be Mr. Grey in the movie?
Keanu Reeves - He's got nothing to lose.
I think the guy who played Julia Roberts' hisband in Sleeping With the Enemy should play Grey. He already has the part down, after all.
I'm not a fan of the 50 Shades series...but if they're going to make movies based on it, I have a deeply sincere entreaty to Hollywood:
Please, for the love of all that's holy, do NOT cast Kristen Stewart as Ana.0 -
50 shades is porn with a story behind it. Men dont have time for the story, we just like the good scenes.0
-
if its not about weight lifting body building or nutrition... I CANT READ!..0

He's an abusive, controlling pig. I hear some people are into that. Those people are called Rihanna.0 -
I read the 50 shades books.
I was in a dark place in my life. I finished book 1 while on a girls' trip with a friend of mine, and I started crying at the end. She asked me why, and I said "I can't ever get those 3 hours of my life back."
Then in my state of self-punishment, I read books 2 and 3. I had bought the trilogy together for my Kindle and don't ever not finish a book I've bought.
ETA: Hubs wouldn't ever, and should never read.
:laugh:0 -
honestly I just prefer the Penthouse confessions people send in.0

there's a lot of reasons why women may enjoy reading this crap while also not wanting to be treated like that in real life. Some having to do with evolution. Some about fantasy about being irresistibly desirable to the one man you want (and it's not rape if it's someone you consent to being with). And I think it also has a lot to do with eliminating sexual shame in the interaction.... I was raised catholic so it makes perfect sense to me.
that being said, a guy reading these novels and thinking "this is what I should do to get some tail in real life" is probably going to end up in jail or shot.0 -
I love reading 50 Shades book reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Waayyyy more entertaining than the actual "novel".0
-
ha ha - -i did read a book called "Between the Shades of Grey" -- it is about Russian prsion camps during the war - -but lots of peeps in the airport or on the plane were looking at me with sneers and grins......
a good book i just read -- and i am not a big romatic novel kind-of-guy - - is "You Before Me".
Good story - bring the tissue box0 -

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they're going to try to cast actors with talent, like Lily Collins and someone like Andrew Garfield. If he wasn't in the Spider Man franchise that is. Instead, they'll probably mess up Eddy Redmayne's career with it.0 -

Right??! It's fantasy! My point of saying men should read it is the passion, the fun and caring side to the character. Guess I should spell it out more clearly in the future. Sooo serious people! :huh:0 -
I confess that I do not read any of that stuff.
Men seem to prefer more photos less words
Perhaps I should create a picture romance novel.....0 -
In the 90s, way before the ShadesOG series, Ann Rice wrote S&M erotica.
I knew men who actually read that and there's another S+M author from
the 70s men are knowing to collect but it is written as SciFi. Depends on how
it's packaged to intrigue men I guess.0 -

And he is NOT caring. He's selfish, abusive and suffocating.0 -
I will have to admit that I have never read any of the major romance novels...
But, I have written a couple of short stories that are a cross between science fiction and romance... I had even written a poem about a beautiful tall blonde woman that I had a crush on for more than a year...0 -

-
Why spend all that money when I can just go to literotica?0
-
Have my wife reading Fifty Shades.
Told her I expect a full ORAL report.
And completed homework assignments.0 -

You will hate yourself about 50 pages in.
