What has been the hardest to give up?

Nothing. Confused why you would cut out your carbs completely????
I didn't cut them out, i still eat them in granola bars and things like that but i try to eat carbs that are better for you if that makes sense
No confused a carb in a granola bar and a carb in a bowl of cereal would still be a carb. 1 carb = 4 calories.
There is a difference between the carbs in whole grain and things like table sugar though. I would imagine that is what she's talking about.
Wow this is news to me? I have been cutting all wrong? What's the difference? Holy cow I never heard this from a qualified source before? I need to read more health magazines...
Fiber is the difference. And yes, perhaps you should.
Confused as to why you could not get your 10-15 grams per 1000 kcals while still eating a variety of carb sources???? What mags should I pick up?
Confused as to your question since I never suggested you couldn't get carbs from a variety of sources.
As for reading material, I would suggest web sites or publications that have review of content by medical professionals in field of nutrition. My personal preference is Harvard School of Public Health, which has a great website and many publications and newletters. But any research univeristy or hospital would be a good start.
The point is that you're talking about fiber, not carbs. Yes some carb sources have more fiber than others, but that's irrelevant.
There are no good carbs and bad carbs if you're hitting your fiber goal regardless.
Fiber is a carb.
Edit to remove rude PMS fueled statement. :blushing:0 -
Overindulgence and extreme eating binges were the hardest. It has gotten much easier with time.0

Hardest thing for me to give up are processed carbs: chips, cookies, breads...I'm trying to learn to eat more complex carbs that are healthier for the body.
You know what's really healthy for the body? Enjoying your food and avoiding the stress of denying yourself things you actually want to eat.0 -
I honestly think that any doctor that you talk to is going to tell you something different about what they believe is good and bad and even some nutricionist will tell you something different. For instance a friend of mine was told by hers that more than one serving of fruit or vegetable a day is actually bad for you, but yet my doctor trys to push berries and tells me how good they are for you.
Are you sure your friend was told more than one serving of fruit or vegetable was bad?? I've heard some say to limit to one fruit per day for those with metabolic disorders. But I have never heard anyone suggest only one serving of vegetables.
Or, perhaps they meant more than one serving of the same vegetable? (as a trick to ensure variety)?0 -
Food-wise, I haven't really given up anything. If I want something, and it fits in my goals, I'll eat it. I too, miss my free time! Working 8 hours a day, keeping up with my house, making dinner, caring for my 2 dogs, finding time for my husband and making it to the gym at least 3 days a week, doesn't leave a ton of time at the end of the day. I sometimes miss my evenings of watching 3+ hours of TV!
I also miss going out to eat. We still go every now and then, but we have cut back for health AND monetary reasons. We would sometimes have 2-3 meals out a DAY on weekends!0 -

yes and i was shocked and tried to tell her thats not true but she didn't want to listen but i eat more than one serving of both a day and it works for me i am very healthy according to doctor and my blood work every 6 months0 -
Carbs.
Calories are easy for me, sodium is hard only because I have problems finding food that doesn't have a lot of salt (home with 4 other adults. )
Over all it's carbs.
Bread, pasta, peanut butter, dairy products, BEANS (southern family; lots of beans, fried potatoes, and corn bread)
Evil Evil carbs. Even orange juice is packed with carbs!
So in the end I get VERY close to my carb limit, but I'm usually 100-1000 under my calorie limit.0 -
I haven't given up anything, I just exercise more if I want to eat it. I think depriving yourself makes it harder to stay on track.
For me it was the opposite I found it hard to stay on track while still eating bad food because i had problems with portion control of the yummy foods, so for me i found it easier to give up a lot of things and now that i have reached my weight loss goal and am working on toning and strength training i have slowly worked some of those foods back in to my diet. I still try to eat better but on weekends i am not as careful and sometimes we go out to dinner.
Cant wait until next thursday it is my 15 year wedding anniversary and we are going out to olive garden and i am so going to enjoy it.0 -

My grandmother isn't allowed to eat many veggies at all. Actually, she isn't allowed ANY leafy greens. Which is lettus, cabbage, brocolli, spinach, collard greens, mustard greens, and the so on. She has to watch vitamin k.
If she was eating more veggies than meat, but not keeping her protien up that might have to do with it. Beans tend to work well.0 -
Peanut butter covered pizza rolls ~cries

The only thing I still eat unhealthy wise is pizza...It's the only vice I have left. I don't care about the pop or the fast food or even the sweets (which I actually thought would have been my real weakness).0

I agree with the video game thing. I used to play hours a day and now I play maybe twice a week an hour at a time unless it's the weekend. Even then though it's not like it used to be.
I just feel more energetic and want to do more with my time than sit on my butt.0 -

Well I mean I would think that eating a granola bar would be better than a candy bar
Why would that be the case? Most granola bars have virtually the same nutrition as most candy bars. I think the difference is quite minimal. Personally, I like chocolate-covered granola bars.0 -
beer hands down i dont think i will haha but i have given it up before got thin just by doing so but was it worth it? decisions0

I'm right there with you. This has been the most difficult for me too. I just really enjoy the taste of beer and the stronger, the better.
I tried completely cutting off and that was a disaster so now I'm just cutting back. I'll have a small glass of red wine instead when I can and I'll have one or two glasses of beer MAX whereas I would go up to 6 or 7 before...
We can do this!0 -
Pasta and Nutella.
I still eat it, but every blue moon.0 -
DIET DR. PEPPER...pop or carbonation of any kind. I was so addicted...like 2L a day addicted. And I just stopped. No more. Drinking water like a fish now and loving the transformation. I had NO idea how bloated I was from all that sodium and my sleeping habits changed as well from no more evening caffeine. Truly a difference.0

I'd have to say the hardest thing to give up is anything with a sweet taste. I was once addicted to sugar, and i replaced that addiction with a worse one... Artificial sweeteners.
I'm working on it very hard, we'll see how it goes. I was once addicted to sodas, now i'm addicted to diet sodas but i'm slowly getting over it.
Salt overuse has also always been a huge problem for me. I'm trying to give it up as well.
Refined flours were hard to give up but i ocassionally have them in reasonable portions. I try to always have wholegrains and wholewheat everything (depending on how much the label information is true, a whole-anything can be worse for you than its refined version)
I still eat everything in moderation in a reasonable frequency. But my tastes have changed so much for the better that i crave less and less junk each day.0 -

I still eat it, but every blue moon.
I used to eat a crazy amount of Nutella every single day. Since I have been 3 years old. I thought for sure I would die if I had to cut it off... but after taking a good hard look at calories, I figured it wasn't worth it. I have been surprised at how little I miss it.
Pasta I'll eat once or twice a month (shrimp linguini!!), and I aim for the whole wheat kind.0 -
ha nice yea i was over seas for 6 years so i have had the best beers of the world i cant just cut that off now but i also found that your waisting your time with them low calorie beers like bud 55 it says 3.5% on the can but i have a friend who brews with a hydrometer or however you spell it and we tested them some of them only have 1% so im done with that crap now even though miller 64 taste great i stick to a couple stronger beer and a couple of shots when im trackingbeer hands down i dont think i will haha but i have given it up before got thin just by doing so but was it worth it? decisions

I don't eat eggs as I once did. My LDL results scared me. So, I don't eat them very much.0

2 liters of Diet Dr Pepper has like 300 mg of sodium.0 -

Dietary cholesterol has virtually no relation to serum cholesterol.
As an example, my average cholesterol intake ranges from 150 to 800 mg a day with an average in the 400 range. My blood LDL levels have gone down from 171 in 2006 to 141 in 2008 to 104 in 2013 as a result of body composition and exercise. This is pretty common.0 -

I haven't given up anything. I just eat less of it.
Last night, we made tacos and I desperately wanted a regular ol' taco piled high with all the toppings. The one tortilla shell was 90 calories though...and I didn't have the calorie allotment to include one. Made a taco salad instead. I was jealous of all the crunching taco sounds around me. =\ But the salad was tasty anyway. That's the closest I've come to giving up something though.0 -
Hardest thing I gave up was smoking.0

I still eat what I want, just not like I used to :flowerforyou:
^^This - I haven't given up anything!0 -
I miss pizza so much. It disgusting to know how much i would eat in the past, though. It's sad to not eat it when i see other people enjoying it all of the time, but it's refreshing as well.0

Pasta and white rice. I don't really give much up but when I eat those two things I feel guilty so I try to stay away from them.0
