Diet soda is absolutely toxic for your body. This is an incomplete list of the health issues associated with soda consumption:

    Obesity
    Diabetes
    Heart disease
    Liver damage
    Insomnia
    High Blood Pressure
    Osteoporosis
    Various cancers

    said no scientific evidence ever.*

*obviously someone jacked full of caffeine isn't going to sleep. But that's hardly insomnia.

Here is a study regarding agressive prostate cancer. It has been published in a medical journal, so the truth is starting to come out.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/soda-day-raises-man-risk-prostate-cancer-article-1.1208695

"Among the men who drank a lot of soft drinks or other drinks with added sugar, we saw an increased risk of prostate cancer of around 40 percent,"

I read the article, but it doesn't seem to mention diet soda, or have much bearing on soda at all if it's including "other drinks with added sugar."

I am trying to find the news cast where a local Dr from Washington University came on our local news and said it was more specific to those that drink Diet soda and there is an increased risk of women and Osteoporosis and strokes from having just one diet soda per day

There's s few good studies about bone densities in teen girls but most are saying its the lack of calcium in the American diet since no one drinks milk anymore

^^yep. And that is exactly the issue with most of the studies that you find. They are a prime example of correlation, and are usually a result of other eating habits.

Relevant, because drinking diet soda is the same as consuming nothing but soda. And thanks for bringing in HuffPo, another bastion of scientific integrity.

Still missing a Daily Mail article though.

Dont worry the Daily Fail will be along soon

Did NOT read through all the hulabaloo.....

Have you read the history of apsertame? It's quite interesting.....and *spoiler alert* Monsanto is involved.

    http://rense.com/general33/legal.htm How Aspertame became legal--timeline

And.....a joint letter from experts in the field regarding the FDA's stance on Aspertame. Interesting as it sites all the studies referenced.

Here's the thing, it may not be evil, but you can't honestly believe that it is "good" for you or doesn't do some "harm" to your body. Hell it can take rust off of stuff, eat holes through cups, pretty sure it doesn't have good stuff in it. I think there are things that are far worse than diet soda and with moderation, it's probably ok to have now and again. I know I love me a good cold Diet Pepsi now and again and I savor every drop, but I definitely know that I'm not putting things that are good for me in my body. Cancer forms from cells abnormally dividing. Cell are dividing in your body constantly, it's amazing it doesn't happen more often, cancer is just a crap shoot. There is not scientific evidence to support that statement cause that came from my own head. If diet soda makes you happy and helps keep you on track, then by all means have one now and again. As with all things, moderation is key. And that is my 2 cents.
  • This just in:

1 Diet soda a week makes the male reproductive organ grow, the female reproductive organ tighter and nipples harder.
1 Diet soda every other day decreases the risk of hormone imbalance.
1 Diet soda every day does all of the above including the decreased risk of Herpes, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, AIDS and the high cost of petroleum.

100% of those who died of cancer were found to have inhaled large amounts of a gaseous oxygen/nitrogen and consumed copious amounts of dihydrous monoxide...must be cancer causing.

    Gus!

I don't think diet drinks or healthy but I don't think there has been any really good science to prove it so if people want to drink it, go for it. Thankfully, I actually hate the taste so it's not giving anything up for me. I would always prefer unsweet tea :)
  • Actually statistics show that people that drink diet soda actually weigh more then people that drink non diet soda. and the chemicals in diet soda put in their to make it calorie fee your body doesn't know how to process it so it stores it as fat. ask any personal trainer. I cut soda and went to diet for a month and saw change in weight (and yes i did eat healthy and Exercise ) I cut it out completely and I lost 6 pounds in one week, its been a month and a half and my love handles are gone no double chin everything is getting alot smaller.

Personal trainers usually do not know diddly squat about nutrition.

And those statistics are re ad lib eating, and not people who log their food, like people do here. Classic case of correlation not causation. Your body cannot process anything with no calories as fat.

There are studies that show artificial sweeteners cause people to crave real sugar and they may eat more because of that. There is nothing in a diet soda that the body can store as fat.

I am fighting pretty hard to hold back any snark here and be helpful. Excess calories, whether from carbs, fats, or proteins, are stored as fat by the body. If something has zero calories (meaning no carbs, fats, or protein), then it cannot be stored as fat, because there is nothing to store.

Personal trainer. The claims against it are BS. You've obviously bought what most PT's don't know about diet soda..............actually peer reviewed studies.
Go ask a PT what the most important meal of the day is. Odds are they will say breakfast because it "boosts/kickstarts" metabolism. It's BS too. No research to back it up.

    Frankie:

That's an observational study that doesn't establish causation only correlation.

    You need clinical trials.

    Edit:misread at first

    Agreed.

The problem is that we are looking to link cause and effect for chronic illnesses, not acute, which is alot harder to do and harder to conduct long term studies on humans for obvious reasons (costs for example)...

As a general point, as measured by the overall sickness of society we have to look at all the information and move to eliminate variables (such as aspartame, etc) and not just remain complacent which we progressively get chronically sicker.

Money is made selling patented goods, not natural ones. There is no lobby defending the potato. But there is a huge one defending GMO.

It is important that we we keep a scientific mind but not eliminate troves of data from analysis either (by always shooting the messenger etc).

Actually there *is* a potato lobby, just as there is a dairy lobby and a beef lobby, a pork lobby, etc.
