I love watermellow. Living down in the southern states, they are available everywhere. I cut my mellow, scoop the goody out in cup fulls and store in fridg; when I want a snack, I get one to two pieces out and store the other away.

Oh shoot! Do southerners have a Watermelon Marshmallow hybrid?

Either I've missed something, she has weird autocorrect or she doesn't know the correct word.

cals burned were such a waste on watermelon!!

i've searched this forum and some people say a calorie is a calorie... fair enough..., some people say to disregard the sugar content...again, fair enough... but when you have a budget of XX amount of calories i simply cannot justify 350-or so calories on watermelon.

I can justify that. Its watermelon and its delicious! I could eat a ton of it.

I know I say this about 300 times a day, but

    Kitchen scale.

Yes. Watermelon has 0.3 calories per gram; weighing is the only way to know how many calories you have really consumed.

    Thank you!

Also we men might not want to throw the rind away, since that is where the highest concentration of citrulline is located. Reference "Watermelon may have Viagra effects" http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080630165707.htm

Now I know why my husband eats the rinds!! :embarassed:

Maybe watermelon and marshmallow vodka? I might try that.

I wouldn't be so concerned about the calories of the watermelon but I would be more concerned about the amount of sugar you ate!

Yes fruit sugar is much better for you than refined or processed sugars, but too much sugar is still so bad!! Be so careful and to eat protein when you eat fruit so that your blood sugar balances out. By doing so, you lessen your chances of getting diabetes later in life!!

I eat entire watermelons. It's one of the most cleansing foods there is.

Such a shame people are afraid of fruit calories when they are consuming thousands of calories a day. Whatever else you're eating is not going to be healthier than the fruit.

I don't think some people understand that you'll end up peering a million times and watermelon helps burn belly fat. Its funny seeing people complain about fruit calories /sugars.
You piqued my interest. How does watermelon help burn belly fat?

Exactly! After watching this thread yesterday, today I decided to pull the half cut watermelon from the back of my fridge and actually weigh it to see how much I actually eat.

I measured the diameter with the rind on, and it was 9" across. Not a huge melon, but normal size. I cut a slice 2" thick and placed it on a plate. Now normally I would simply grab a spoon, a towel, and sit down in front of the TV and finish that sucker off. Before I started counting calories a year ago, that is.
Instead, I cut the rind off and then weighed the gorgeous disk of goodness.

Net weight- drum roll please.... 1600 grams! That adds up to 509 calories. 10 'servings' and over 100 grams of sugar.

So no, as much as I would like to just finish it off, instead I measured out 300 grams, (2 servings) and logged the 100 calories and 20 grams of sugar.
BTW, cut into small squares, this filled a normal sized cereal bowl.

I enjoyed my smaller portion. But the hard part will be staying out of the rest of it.
It is much easier today than it would have been a year ago. We can learn moderation. Not always easy. But doable.

ive just eaten 800g of watermelon, which was half a whole one, calories per 100g 30, so not that many calories for the amount of water melon you get, id rather eat half a watermelon than a chocolate bar which has the same calories.

Take a look at this in regards to watermelon (which I LOVE but have to make sure I keep in check). This is per cup of balls.

how big of a cup? what size balls?

see, a CUP measurement for something spherical is ridiculous and not accurate for measurement.
Cut a watermelon, put a plate on a food scale, tare the scale, put the edible part of watermelon on the scale... log in grams.

    Problem. Solved.
