I suggest that you look at more than just the pictures and read what people are saying - it may help with context. And a couple of people posting pics =/= all IIFYMers in any event.

This, and take a peep at open food diaries. Maybe not mine... I'm like Charles Barkley. I am not a role model.

I figured instead of starting a new thread, I would ask my question here regarding IIFYM (since it is a pretty active thread so far).

When reading about this way of living, I notice that most people have a very strict workout regiment. For me, I just haven't been able to make that possible. Certain weeks I work out 6 times and some weeks I will only work out 3. Not only that, but I haven't incorporated any lifting into my routines.

Would I actually be able to see any results with IIFYM if I am not lifting? (I am not opposed to lifting, I just haven't done it yet).

IIFYM is just a way to be flexible with your food choices while dieting (or maintaining or bulking) and is not related to training.

Can those of you who do this tell me the kind of success you have had following that eating plan. I typed in my info on the TDEE calculator and the # it gave me of calories to eat seems astronomical.
Does it really work for you?

IIFYM is not a specific calorie amount, it is a philosophy about food selection.

One can apply IIFYM at 1400 calories and at 3500 calories and it is still IIFYM.

Just making mention of this for clarity sake.

It works, but as with any method you need to make sure your total intake is set appropriately.

THIS. There are lots of followers of IIFYM here and most that I've seen are quite successful.

okay just to clarify I read the whole IIFYM page and the theory etc. I read all the FAQ I get it. I understand the idea. But if they are correct then the number of calories I should be hitting is like 2500. I am a mom of 4 so I am busy and on my feet most of the day. I don't do much exercising other then walking 3 miles a day at a brisk pace. So doesn't that TDEE seem really really high?

Take it with a 250-300 +/- calorie margin. I use it for macros for sure. it tells me I should be at 1650 for a 20% rate for weight loss and I rarely eat that much. i am normally at 1400. So like I said, use the goal of 2500 and give or take 250-300 cals

This, I was actually pretty sedentary when I started trying to do IIFYM. What you eat doesn't really change the way you look other then bigger or smaller. If you want to get as firm as possible, lift. I've started, and not strictly by any stretch of the imagination, it's worth it.

I love the IIFYM methodology because I can eat whatever the F I want as long as it fits. Doesn't mean I gorge on Big Macs or whatever but its sure as hell better than eating herbalife and salads lol. I've lost 16lbs in 11 weeks

IIFYM as you can see/read from other comments is a flexible approach to dieting, maintaining, and bulking. I exclusively use it so you don't get so stuck in a rut sort of speak of eating the same darn foods day-in and day-out.

I am curious if anyone can tell me if the IIFYM "plan" (for lack of better term) is only effective for bodybuilders? Or can it also work for someone like a stay at home mom doing HIIT and strength training at home?

it works for everybody because it's not a plan. it's an understanding of what your body actually needs for nutrition and that's all.

    food is only fuel.
    eat the foods you love.
eat foods that help you meet your nutritional goals.
    eat a variety of foods.
    meet your calorie goal.
meet or exceed your fats goal.
meet or exceed your protein goal.
fill up the rest of your calories however you want to.
    enjoy food.
    enjoy life.
    don't obsess about food choices.
don't feel guilt or shame about foods you eat.
monitor your daily and weekly tracking averages.

i defy anybody to show me a better way to eat, lose weight, get adequate nutrition, and be happy at the same time.

EXACTLY what I wanted to hear! I have had amazing results with it, and I've been referring my clients (as a new personal trainer) to it as well, but in trying to find articles and other information to kind of help explain and validate my point (most moms are stuck in the mindset of tons of cardio, no carbs, lots of salads and coffee...) everything is related to bodybuilding, "cutting", "bulking", etc. And I have found that it's helped me to lose my post baby weight and get into the best physical shape of my life! So thank you!!

IIFYM would better be called "basic nutrition."

I follow my chose diet and exercise IIFYM.

My understand is you can eat whatever you want as long as it fit your macros.. once you hit you rmacros you can eat whatever you want IF you have calories left over.

So I eat the diet i want to eat.. and follow the ideology.

    Works for me.

I lift 3-5 times a week and do cardio 4-6 times a week. but I would eat this way even if I didn't exercise.. i'd just have less calories to play with.

I'm actually quite proud of myself today.. I feel really really full, but I managed to hit everything and still fall under my calories.. although I ate more then I am used to.. hence the full feeling.

It's a journey.. take it one step at a time, listen to your body and enjoy the ride :drinker:

PS.. my diary is open.. or should be.

It's this magical feeling I get when I know I'll hit my macros and maybe get a PR. Celebrated with glitter and a side of awesome. It's like skinny dipping in a pool and no one yelling at you for it. Wait. What are we talking about?
