Anyone using liquid chlorophyll? Side effects?

My dietitian gave me some when I went on a diet 14 years ago. All it did is make me puke. I can't physically stand the stuff.0

I enjoy it, but it tends to make me pass gas more often. lol The cholorofresh stuff I buy is awesome tasting, not sure if it does anything or if it's a placebo effect.0

Oh man.... I got confused between chlorophyll and chloroform..... I was thinking what the heck does someone need that for?!?!3

Snake oil......
As soon as I see a company selling "detox" and "cleanse" products they've lost all credibility with me. I haven't read the "Herbs & Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Guide" but would hazard a guess that there aren't a lot of peer reviewed clinical trials quoted in it which is one of the biggest objections traditional medical practitioners have with alternative treatments.
So Medical Practitioners have a big problem with lack of "peer reviewed clinical trials" in relation to alternative treatments. That's fine if you put your faith in Medical Practitioners, but consider that these MD's read journals containing studies that are bought and paid for by the companies selling the drugs. Essentially they are worthless, and you'd be better off taking anything natural and "alternative" than to be taking anything at all that is a chemical drug.
I would rather put my faith in a trained medical professional held to ethical standards and regulation, instead of a used car salesmen turn supplement pusher whose products have free reign.
Goat Pills are natural and most definitely "ALTERNATIVE".
People you dont need supplements. Supplements do more harm than good, and the bad thing is, you dont know until the damage has been done.
Everything in the right dosage, taken long enough can cause harm. A person can smoke one cigarette and suffer no ill effects; but if that person smokes 30 cigarettes for 20 years he will develop serious health issues....and tobacco is natural.
How many of you take a daily mulitiple vitamin. How much iron is in it? Do you realize that too much iron is dangerous and the vast majority of people dont need iron supplements? Iron can cause hemochromatosis, especially in men and it often doesnt appear until middle age.
This thread started with the OP asking if Liquid Chlorophyll had side effects as she had increased her dosage and became nauseous. Many replied, "nope, I have been taking it for years"....but no one knows what they or the OP have ingested because supplements are not regulated. There is no standard for supplements.

People are always chasing the elusive, latest and greatest exotic "super food" fad. Akai berry, chia seed, raspberry ketones, goji berries, quinoa, while shunning the much cheaper and boring super foods we have readily available, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, spinach, apples, bananas, broccoli, etc.
Focus on eating a balance diet and save your money.3 -

That's what I read at first, too! I thought: I guess if you're unconscious you can't eat? :laugh:0 -

The only issue I had with it was gas. It wasn't a lot, I kept taking it, but it was noticeable.0

Is this to be used in the sunlight and air diet?
LOL it might work better if you do
I fail to see the point of ingesting pure chlorophyll because:
a) green plants contain lots of it and you get it when you eat them
b) green plants contain lots of micronutrients that the body needs, and fibre, which you don't get from purified chlorophyll
c) we evolved eating all of the plant, not purified compounds from it. While I don't do the paleo diet, I do happen to consider that the human body doesn't need any food that wasn't available in the palaeolithic era, by virtue of the fact that our species would not have survived until now if we had. IMO that doesn't mean we shouldn't eat foods that weren't available then, but it does mean that human bodies don't need things like purified chlorophyll or colon cleanses or other snake oil and quackery.0 -
Billy Madison makes me giggle!0

Why not try green tea instead? It's natural, boosts metabolic rate, good for your heart etc. You can drink as much as you like with no calories etc. It's my get up and go remedy!1

I want to be very rich. I'm thinking of selling pig whiskers in a liquid form and touting all kinds of benefits. I bet I'd be so freaking wealthy. I'm doing it. You'll see. I just need to make up a bunch of stuff about how pig whiskers will give people energy.
LOL Let me take care of the marketing. I already have the motto....Pig Whiskers Make Ya Root Deeper!0 -
Hey, if I can sunbathe and eat at the same time, I'm in.
But I'm guessing chlorophyll doesn't turn sunlight into beer and steaks . . .:grumble:
Technically it does, but not directly
the hops plant turns sunlight into hops, while grass turns sunlight into, well, grass. Cows eat the grass. People make steaks out of cows and beer out of hops.
So chlorophyll does at least help to turn sunlight into beer and steaks :flowerforyou:0 -

So we skip the supplement and have a beer while BBQing the steak......works for me!0 -
I just realized that the pro-strong first post resurrected this thread from March 2012. I feel like I've been had!!! :laugh:0

I've never had straight chlorophyll before, but I drink a greens+ supplement every morning and I think one of the ingredients is chlorophyll. I've never had any digestive issues with it, but it definitely gives me more energy in the morning and throughout my day.0

If the Daily Mail are advocating it, then it must be good right? ;-)

I used to take it and never had side effects. I just added the serving size listed on the bottle to my morning protein shake, and never increased it. I never really felt anything from it, but decided to switch to using the Alive! brand whole food shakes instead, or the Vitacost / Vitamin Shoppe knockoff version, because the liquid chlorophyll was too messy for me. I was constantly staining my fingers, my kitchen counters..... my tongue.... gross.0

That might actually work in China. They believe some crazy things about the powers of odd animal parts in that area of the world.0 -

Chlorophyll is helpful for women to help eliminate any unpleasant body odors not otherwise accounted for by infections, etc. Soooo...it helps in that sense too. Your vag will smell like roses. :-D0

I think pure chorophyll will make it smell more like spinach or cut grass than roses...0 -
Yes, chlorophyll can cause nausea or diarrhea if you take more than your system is ready to digest. Build up your tolerance.0

You got me curious........one of the known side effects is digestive tract problems.
I must say the claims made by websites selling the product are nothing short of miraculous! If you want chlorophyll eat spinach rather than buying a supplement that, most likely, contains a minuscule amount.
You can eat the spinach, but the chlorophyll is more potent and will enter your system better and for some reason you can't eat enough spinach.
The effects aren't miraculous, it's called plants.0 -
There are thousands of catalysts (chemicals that speed reactions) in the plant kingdom (not the "vegetable kingdom"), but chlorophyll is not one of them. It is the pigment responsible for the green color of plants and enables them to "trap" energy from sunlight. This energy and carbon dioxide are then used to manufacture the carbohydrates that all living things use as food. Oxygen is not produced by the breakdown of carbon dioxide but is a by-product of the splitting of water during photosynthesis. Chlorophyll's proponents also claim that it is a natural substance equivalent to the "blood of plants." It is true that a small part of the chemical structure of chlorophyll resembles that of blood, but the functions of the two are entirely different. Nor should most products labeled "chlorophyll" be considered "natural." They are breakdown products produced by exposing plant material to chemicals such as acetone, hexane gas,and copper. The resultant material is no l- http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/chlorophyll.html
You're only an idiot if you pretend to know. You're pretending to know, chlorophyll will take odor away and help to detox, I WOULD know, I'm not an idiot.
Although I was dying 2 years ago.0 -
Why are you ingesting chlorophyll?
Detox, odor, energy, well being.0 -
Snake oil......
If I had listened to you years ago, I would be one step closer to dead.
I'm glad you're into this death metal, morbid, watch the blood flow part of your life. Hopefully that phase passes.2 -

If you don't know this, you-are-a-moron.
The planet and our civilization, WILL NOT, survive, as a result of what you just outlined. Unless you have a plan for the future, for hundreds of thousands of people who are NOT in the now. We will be feeling the effects of a FALSE and CORRUPT system, who PAYS scientists to do studied that CONFIRM their product. Yet if the results show otherwise, WE NEVER SEE THE STUDIES publicly . You have to dig for them.
THE FDA approves poisons, get over it, it's mafioso group that wants your money and reduced population number that is easy to profit from and control. Everyone has their chips in that basket, the politicians, the scientists, the drug companies, the insurance companies, just think about it.0
