Ladies ONLY - Do you weigh more on your period?
Replies

Fortunately those days are behind me, but I always weighed as much as five pounds more starting a few days before until the second day of my period, and then it disappeared in a single day.0

I have an irregular cycle so I'd retain water for 1-2 weeks before it, then slowly lose the water weight during it. Once it's over, I'm back to my proper non-water-retaining weight.0

2-4 pounds heavier...I do MUCH better if I exercise more intense during that time also..0
-
I usually put on at least 2 lbs either just before or during but drop them again afterwards (thankfully)0

I actually don't. And have had 5 months straight of losses DURING TOM!
I swear by taking Dandelion capsules, it's a natural diuretic. I take one dose nightly anyhow, but when TOM starts, I up it to 2-3 doses per day. You could also try dandelion tea if you prefer, and add some diuretic foods.
Here is the best list I've found: http://www.3fatchicks.com/36-diuretic-foods/0 -
When I weight myself few days before or on period, my weight goes up for about 4-9lbs more. It's not only because it's THE period. I notices, I have really big cravings of sweet foods at the time.0

I weigh a pound or two more today for whatever reason. But I guess overnight, I started my period.
I am wondering if this is normal if you are on your period. I seem to be retaining more water during this time, too.
Any advice or is this kind of thing normal?
Also, should my exercise stay the same even though I often feel much weaker during this time?
YES!! Most months only a pound or two and it comes off quickly, this month it was five pounds and I feel quite sluggish and bloated. Roll on the menopause, due any time now. :-)0 -
Ugh! Glad I'm not the only one!! I tend to be heavier the week before (which is now)...and although I know it's menstrual related, I totally get upset!!0
-
I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Except for two non-consecutive weeks where I didn't lose or gain, neither of which were during my period, I have been at a consistent loss. I don't do anything different compared to the rest of the month. I haven't had actual cramps since high school, but I do feel this constant pressure down below for that entire week that's annoying in its own right. Like a visit to the restroom would help, but it doesn't.0

Yes and the bloating!!! Ugh!0

I know I retain water before and during my period, its not unusual- just annoying!0
-
I am so relieved to know my 2 a day workouts and diet changes are for nothing. I wanted to cry this morning when I weighed myself.Thank you for asking and thank you for that knowledge.0
-
Totally normal... I actually go up between 5-7lbs but I pound alot of water to stay hydrated during my TOM. To avoid the let down feeling, I simply avoid the scale then lol.0
-
I was also getting really discouraged because a couple days before it started i put on 2 pounds and i started thinking all my efforts werent working. Then when it started i gained another pound. Now im still waiting for it to go away. Im 123 normally now im 125-126 every time i weigh in. Hopefully when my period ends the weight will fall off0
-
always! between bloating and water retention, it gets ugly. I avoid weighing myself during my period because i know i will be up and that when it's over i will be back to normal.0
-
Thank you everyone. I weighed myself today and was about to cry. I will skip weighing this week.0
-
yep, always up anywhere between 2 and 5lbs during that time. I continue to exercise at the same level/intensity during that time, but i dont record weight on that week0
-
Yes always anywhere between 5 and 7lbs more from five or six days before until 2 or 3 days after then there's the bloating which can add 2 or 3 inches to my tummy as well. Very normal I think a lot if not most ladies get some degree of increase around that time.0
-
Phew. I'm not going to weigh myself until this is over.0
-
Yes, so now I just don't weigh myself during that period, and just focus on getting exercise in and staying within my limit.0
-
Nope! I actually look forward to it because I drop like 3 lbs, lol!0
-
I gained almost 5lbs overnight and then I got my period today. I was hoping the 5lbs were due to my period since i've been working so hard at losing weight lately...Thanks for all of your comments! It gives me hope that the 5 extra lbs will go away as soon as the monthly punishment is gone!0

I do normally gain weight before my period... But when I'm loosing weight I don't gain anything much before my period, maybe 100-200 grams. But during my first days of period I lose 1 kg, sometimes 2 easily...0
-
I was actually wondering if any of you ladies experience the symptoms of bloating and slight weight gain/stalls the week -before- you're due? I've been working out every day this week and staying well below my limit in net calories. My weight continued going down the end of this weekend and has since shot up 2-3 pounds in addition to my stomach feeling and looking bloated. I'm not due till about the 9th or 10th so I'm trying to figure out if it's related at all.0
-
heh heh, great post and the answer is yes, sometimes up by 2 kilos (roughly 4 lbs) and it stays for the week :S and sometimes it comes on the week before.0
-
Thank goodness ! I was up 2 lbs and I have been watching g what I eat and keeping track of everything, sometimes I am even below my calorie goal, so I was getting worried. PERIOD DOES SUCK. ????0
-
